I walked out of the building. If it could be even called that. Our little camp back in Nightmare Mode was more of a town than this one. And that only had 2 buildings! They were so shoddy and made sloppily and quickly. They were going for quantity over quality. If these people even put one of these buildings back on our island it would be destroyed with a casual backhand from some random goblin.
As I walked out of the building I noticed that some people were getting into an argument.
“Hey! You can’t just do whatever you want! Just because you are a couple of levels above us means nothing! You still need to heed the law!” A blond man with a police uniform shouted, pointing his finger at the back of a man who was walking away.
The man stopped, turning. He had bleached hair and looked to be in his early twenties, around my age. “What did you say to me?” He said darkly, facing the policeman.
The policeman took a hesitant step back. “You shouldn't just be able to do anything you want to. The laws are there for a reason.” he said, voice wavering.
The other man took a threatening step forward. “And what are you going to do about it?” He asked, smirking. “Call the police? Oh wait.” He put a hand on his cheek mockingly and walked towards the policeman.
I decided to step in. “Hey, what are you doing to this police officer? Don’t you know it's illegal to assault a police officer?” I asked him casually walking forward.
The guy looked over at me and smirked. “Ah, another goody two shoes. Do you want a beating too? I would be happy to provide.” He told me, changing his course and walking towards me. “You better run. I can crush you like a bug. I am already level 13, punk.”
I nodded. “Yes you are.” I said nonchalantly, staying where I was.
“... what?” He asked me, stopping and looking mildly confused.
I sighed. He didn’t even have a sense of humor. “Yes. you are a punk.” I told him.
His face grew beet red.”What did you call me?” He said angrily, approaching me again.
I just glared at him. “You heard me.” It was mildly surprising how fun it was to make fun of him.
He roared and charged me. “You’ll regret that!” He promised me, not knowing that he would be the one regretting things.
He was surprisingly fast. Almost as fast as me, he must specialize in agility.
Sure enough he pulled out a stone dagger from his belt. “Die!” He screamed.
I casually stepped to the side and stuck out my leg. He flew past me, tripping on my leg and skidding forward into the ground.
He growled and jumped back up. “Lucky move. I'll get you this time.” He told me through gritted teeth.
I just smiled and he charged me again. This time when he was about to reach me I jumped up softly, landing on his head and springing off again.
He collapsed to the ground as my body weight shoved him down.
He stood back up brushing himself off. “Ah I see. You are another agility specialist! Sadly, that means you would have to put everything in agility to pass my level of agility. Too bad I specialize in endurance too!” he said grinning maniacally. This is a battle of attrition! I will end you eventually. I applaud your efforts, even though they are in vain.”
He suddenly slashed at me, sending a wave of concentrated air at me. I stepped to the side and easily avoided it. Did he call that an attack? It was so sloppy and might not have hit me even if I hadn’t moved. The aim behind that move was simply terrible.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
He snarled ferally at me and lept at me, slashing his dagger repeatedly at me. I calmly flowed between each and every one of his strikes, blocking them easily. He was too wild in his swipes and it was easy to simply turn them away.
“Is that all you got?” I asked mockingly. “I thought you were a far higher level than me. Is this all you can do?”
“You little-” he started to say before I jumped, kicking him in the face and leaping off to land a couple feet away. Blood spurted out of his nose as I heard a *crunch* and he screamed in pain.
“The heck! How are you so fast!” He screamed at me. “I have a moderate amount of speed but you are leagues ahead of me!”
I smirked at him. “What if I told you that agility was my lowest body stat.” I asked him, walking towards him.
He spat out blood. “I would tell you that you're crazy. Your speed is ridiculous, sure, but you don’t hit very hard.” He said standing back up. For all of the things I hated about this guy I had to admire his tenacity.
“Come on man. Just give up. You and I both know that you aren’t winning this, and I really don’t want to kill you.” I pleaded with him. He was a person not a monster so I didn’t want to kill him just for causing a little trouble.
“Never! You have made me look weak in front of everybody! I will kill you for that and show that I am the strongest!” He practically foamed at the mouth as he shouted these words at me.
That got my attention. People watching? I looked around and realized that a crowd had gathered around and were… cheering? Just what had this guy done for him to be so hated by everyone? Or maybe… they just wanted to do something? Were they bored?
That was ridiculous, if they got bored why didn’t they go fight monsters or something? Really these people made no sense.
The man suddenly blasted toward me with a gust of wind and I reacted entering the blood state for the briefest moments I shot upwards. Throughout my training I learned to maximize the power while lowering the cost. This was achieved by activating bloody strength to enter what was known as the blood state.
I soared over 30 feet in the air before I started to fall down. I narrowed my eyes. Enough playing around I was going to show this man just who I was. Right before I hit the ground I entered the blood state for a moment so that I was completely fine when I impacted the ground.
I shot forward, grabbing the man by the scruff of his neck and throwing him straight up using bloody strength. He flew into the air and screamed before he came hurtling downwards. I snorted and leaped, grabbing his shirt and landing softly on the ground. I threw him to the ground slamming him down.
“Had enough yet? Or do you still think you can even hope to beat me?” I asked him.
He gasped for air crawling away from me. “I’m done, I don't want to fight a monster like you.” He breathed out. “You're insane! I couldn’t even see you! You were like a freaking freight train!” He gasped out.
I waved him off and started to walk away. “Oh stop. Part of me wishes you could have refused so I could go all out.” I said casually.
He whimpered and backed away again. “You weren’t even trying? Who the heck are you and what is your level?” He asked me, flabbergasted.
I turned around and smiled. “I’m Drake. Nightmare Mode player. As for my level. It is currently standing at 22.” I told him, grinning ferally.
His jaw dropped. “Nightmare mode…” The crowd reacted much the same, with exclamations of surprise and awe.
He looked up. “You were just playing with me weren’t you? I was helpless towards you. I never even stood a chance.” He commented still in shock.
I grinned. “Nope, you never did. I could have killed you in seconds” I waved and crouched down before breathing out and jumping over 50 feet and practically flying away. That was fun. Now it was time to see what the bosses here were like. I should also test my new skill too.
