Brock can fly?

Drake

I was chatting with Minya about our predicament. “We should go help out either Emily or Brock first. They are both really close to the bosses so they are probably in the most danger. Emily more so. She was close to the final boss, the Night-Mare. So therefore she is in far more danger. That thing is powerful.” Me and Minya had been talking for over a half hour about our game plan.

That boss still terrified me to the bone whenever I even thought about it. It's dark red eyes and glistening black coat were forever embedded in my brain, haunting me. That thing had practically pranced into our camp and utterly destroyed all of us as though we were children to it. I shuddered involuntarily. If I never saw that thing again I would be ecstatic.

Minya said something that I missed. “Um. I’m sorry, could you repeat that?” I asked her sheepishly, snapping out of my musing. I had gotten carried away in my own thoughts and forgot that me and Minya had been having a pretty serious conversation. What we did could potentially affect which of our friends survived. I hoped all of them would survive but it wasn’t likely with our circumstances. Especially with so many of our members so close to some of the bosses.

She sighed. “Get a grip Drake. Could you listen to me for once in your life? I was saying that we should go-” She was suddenly cut off as a guttural yell echoed through the forest. I whipped my head around and looked up.

There was a humanoid form shooting through the sky over 400 feet above us. It was hard to tell for certain but… It looked like it was… Brock? Brock was flying through the air as though he had used a rocket to blast off of the ground.

I cursed. There was no way that he would survive that fall. I crouched down and prepared to leap but Minya beat me to it, jumping and utilizing the air around her to all but fly after Brock's slowly shrinking form.

I entered the blood state and leapt wind tearing at my skin as I blasted upwards. I controlled the blood circulating in me and utilized my dao seed, changing how my blood worked for the briefest of moments. Making myself perfectly aerodynamic and giving my skin a transparent effect, essentially making me a ghost. I shot past Minya and quickly gained on Brock.

“Come on, come on.” I muttered to myself reaching out trying to grab Brock. I was so close but as I grabbed at him I missed, my hand brushing against the fabric of his shirt and passing through. I cursed again. I had forgotten about making myself ghostlike!

As I groped at where Brock was Minya suddenly ran up behind me and passed me. Using air platforms to keep up with me and even surpassing me. She reached out and grabbed both me and Brock by the back of our shirts, halting both of our forward momentum almost instantly. There was just one problem.

Gravity decided to remind us it was there. I was really light because of my last second modifications to my body, but Brock was a 15 foot tall monster with who knew how many pounds packed into him.

Minya desperately tried to use air manipulation to stop all of us but she could only use one hand for each of us. I turned to her quickly and yelled, “Let me go! I will be fine, just focus on Brock!” I told her, yelling over the rapid wind.

She nodded and released me quickly, grabbing Brock with both hands, slowing considerably. I focused on myself, using blood dao again to make myself more sturdy and strong, strong enough to survive a 400 foot landing.

I gritted my teeth and activated my blood state hurtling toward the ground, screaming out as adrenaline rushed through me. As the air whistled by me I crossed my arms close to my chest and readied myself for impact.

I looked down and saw the island only a hundred feet away from me. Squeezing my eyes shut I prepared myself. When I got close enough I punched down sending a blood slash straight down, halting my momentum for the briefest of seconds. I fell the final couple 60 feet and hit the ground hard, rolling to transfer the effect throughout my entire body, lessening the effect.

Even so, I heard a couple of cracks and a piercing pain struck my ankle. I had snapped it for sure. I looked up dazed and saw Brock and Minya gently floating toward me. I slumped down. Of course, they got off easy while I got a broken ankle.

Minya looked at me, gently setting Brock down and jogging over to me. “How did you survive that fall? She asked me curiously.

I limped over to the nearest tree, slumping against it. “I used blood dao to alter my body, making it more sturdy. I also used blood slash to briefly slow down my speed. I also used blood state to minimize the damage I took. I also rolled to make sure that I didn’t snap my legs clean off.” I told her, breathing heavily and trying to take my mind off of the pain. It hurt. A lot.

Minya looked at my ankle and winced. “That looks painful. Do you want me to give you a health potion to heal it?” She asked me while looking at her screen.

I waved her off. “It isn’t that bad. I will just have to deal with pain until we can get to Emily. We shouldn’t waste one of our precious potions when we don’t need to.” I said, closing my eyes and trying to still my beating heart.

She looked at me for a while before shrugging. “Your call I guess. I am going to go check on Brock.” She walked over to him and checked his pulse. “Oh my.” She suddenly said, sounding worried.

I cracked my eyes open. “What?” I asked her, curious.

She turned around and looked at me. “He seems to have been punched in the gut by a fist that looks bigger than his. It seems our friend was in a battle with something and jumped away in desperation, going way higher than he wanted to.” She told me, smiling slightly.

I just stared at her. “You found that all out just by looking at him? Were you also a medic before the apocalypse?” I asked her, curious as to how she knew all of this.

She blushed. “I was training for medicine before I discovered running. I only remember the basics, but it is enough to be useful.” She mentioned offhandedly, still checking Brocks vitals.

“Huh.” I said. That was surprising. She didn’t seem like the type of person who would learn medicine. But I guess looks aren’t everything.

Suddenly Minya perked up, cocking her head to the side. “Did you hear that?” She asked, turning to look at me.

I listened. “No I don’t hear anything-” I started to say before I heard what she was talking about. I heard the sound of buzzing wings.
