Brock
I was mad. I was tired. And most of all I was ticked off at bugs. Why did they have to attack you right as you thought you were safe? One moment you would be happily whistling to yourself and the next you were in a heated battle with the creepy things. And the worst part? They would run away before you could kill any of them. It made me so mad.
The one good thing about this though, I was learning really fast how to use my rapid growth spell on a whim. Before it took me a couple seconds to ramp up to it, but now it only took about 2 seconds to get to my full height. 16 feet tall. It felt ridiculous how tall I got. Everything felt so small and inconsequential.
I looked around. Were any of the stupid things hiding around? Didn’t seem like it but you could never be too sure. They liked to attack you just when you started to feel safe. It was kind of terrifying actually, seeing bugs rip out the ground right in front of you and jump at you mandibles clicking. That right there was the stuff of nightmares. Good thing I was a nightmare too. Otherwise I would have been scared.
But not me. No way. Never. Bugs? Pfft. They were weak and weren’t scary at all with their black glossy eyes and sharp as knives mandibles. They were practically puppies… right. I would just keep telling myself that and hope that I got myself to believe it one of these days. Hopefully I would be found by my teammates but… you should always prepare for the worst. So they were never coming back.
I felt lonely. I had had many friends in my past life, but ever since then it had just been Kent, Minya, Drake, Emily and Layton. I couldn’t describe it but it was like we all shared a very special bond that knowhone else would be able to have. We all trusted each other completely and expected that trust to be reciprocated.
I had never been very close to anyone before, but these people all felt as though they had been part of my life forever, we were just that close.
As I was thinking about my friends, I started to hear a buzzing noise. It grew louder and louder as time went on. “What in the world is going on?” I mumbled to myself standing up.
The ants were silent for all I knew, so this wasn’t them, or was it? I honestly had no idea what was happening right now. I cautiously looked around, as the sound grew louder and louder. It was starting to become deafening. My ears were throbbing as the sound continued to get stronger.
I clapped my hands to my ears, trying to block out the sound, but it didn’t do anything.

I looked around desperately trying to find the source of the noise. After another loud screech I saw it. It was a huge bipedal beetle the size of a car, with one long horn on the top of its head.
Boss: Beetle Overlord
Lvl: 35
Oh no. It was only me here and a boss was attacking me. I slammed my fist together and roared, activating rapid growth. My bones started to crack and twist as I grew upwards, towering over the beetle. It was much wider than me but I was taller. I grinned and pulled my fist back before I was sent flying back.
I coughed blood. What? How had that happened? I was sure that I had gained the upper hand by growing but apparently not. This was when I realized that everytime I had fought a boss I had had at least one other person with me. Now? It was just me and it. And I was 11 levels behind me. The higher up in levels one got, the stronger your stats were.
So if this beetle had put everything into physical stats he was going to absolutely destroy me. For the first time in a long time I felt terror. Pure heart gripping terror. If I fought this thing it was very likely that I would die. I let out a sound somewhere between a whimper and a cry. I didn’t want this. I didn’t want to die.
The beetle appeared in front of me smashing its fist into my stomach sending me flying into a tree snapping it. The tree creaked and then fell down, leaving me leaning against the stump. I coughed out my blood standing up on shaky legs. I picked up a rock and hurled it at the beetle.
It casually raised its arm and blocked and the rock slammed into its thick carapace, bouncing off harmlessly. In that time though. I squatted down and launched myself into the trees trying to escape.
The beetle screeched and jumped after me. I was slightly faster than the thing and was slowly pulling away. I would randomly kick out and snap trees getting in its way and slowing it down even more. I was elated. I could get away!
Suddenly I heard a buzzing noise and I glanced back. The beetle had slowed and its wings were now beating at the rate of a hummingbird. I grunted and picked up the pace running as fast as my legs would allow. The beetle shot off into the sky and zoomed after me. I gritted my teeth and ran even faster, adrenaline pumping throughout my entire body.
I ran as fast as I could but my legs were starting to slow, my breathing getting out of control. As my vision turned black I roared and used all of my power to crouch before jumping as far as I could. As the wind whipped by my head I blacked out.
