Emily
I was scared. I had never felt so alone in my life before. All of my friends had been teleported away while I escaped. I felt sick to my stomach. I had left them in their time of greatest need. I was a coward and a weakling.
If only I had been as strong as Kent, I could have shown that Night-Mare who was the boss. But just like all of the others, Kent had been dealt with by the horse with practiced ease knocking him out and then teleporting his limp form away. Luckily I had been able to heal him quite a bit before he was teleported away. Otherwise he might not have survived the rest of the night. I hadn’t gotten any notifications about his passing but I wasn’t even sure if I would get notified.
We all were still so new to this. I hated being here so much. The monsters were just everywhere and it felt like bosses were everywhere.
As I was thinking about all that we had been through in the last days, I made an orb of light above me. I made it do loop de loops and twirls in the air to distract myself from all of the horrors that were now a part of my life.
I started to bend it and let it snap back like a rubber band. Watching as its form quivered after each release. As time went on I started to do more and more complicated things with the orb. I started to make it change shape for extended periods of time and used it as a bouncy ball to see how it would react. It was very elastic and bounced even better than a bouncy ball. Going up really high when I threw it on the ground, going almost 80 feet up.
I was having fun. It felt like I was a little girl again playing with my favorite toy. It was so nice to just leave all of my worries behind and just play. I loved it. I tried to bend it into a U shape and then quickly released it and it snapped forward like a bow releasing an arrow.
I spent the next several hours just playing with the orb of magic. Slowly getting better at manipulating it. I used my brain to stretch it now and didn’t touch it. Manipulating it purely with my thoughts. It was exhilarating, knowing that I could bend and shape it with a simple thought.
I felt like I was in a daze just playing with the energy before me. It was intoxicating. I loved it. As I finally came back to reality I was flooded with notifications.

I gawked at the screen. I knew I had learned some skills while I was playing with the mana, but this much?
I itched to check my status but restrained myself. I didn’t want to get carried away and zone out again. I looked up into the sky. Where was everybody? I was feeling really alone and scared right now, and I could really use some emotional support.
As I stared into the sky I witnessed the strangest thing. A form suddenly shot up into the sky on the other side of the island and hurtled in my direction. I stood up and watched as it seemed to head straight for me. Was it another boss? I watched as two other forms shot up to meet it, grabbing at it and stopping it before falling down, one slightly before the others. I couldn’t see what was happening very well because of the distance, but the first form was huge.
Were those my teammates? I could definitely see the original one as Brock and Kent and Minya being the ones to save him. Or maybe even Drake. I didn’t really know where his strengths lie right now. As I watched, another form took to the sky, roughly about the size of the form I assumed to be Brock. It seemed to be flying and was going in the direction that they had fallen to.
I was scared. Were my friends in danger? What was that thing? I didn’t think for long and started to run in the direction that I had seen them fall. I was fast. Faster than any olympic sprinters I had ever seen before. It felt like the air was warping around me and sliding off of me as I ran like my life depended on it.
I started to use create wall to make platforms for myself to easily get over ditches and around trees quickly. I prayed that my friends would hang on. I wasn’t one hundred percent sure if they even were my friends. But one could hope, right?
As I sped through the trees my thought started to wander. Were my friends okay? Were they even my friends? What would happen when I got there? How would me arriving even change anything? What was going on right now?
I wanted to rip out my hair in frustration. I wanted to know what was happening!
Suddenly I realized one of my newer traits. Mana Sense. I innately understood how to activate it, and once I did the world exploded in color. Mana was everywhere. In the trees, the ground, the rocks. Even the very air was chock full of mana.
I focused my sight and saw 9 beacons of very powerful mana lighting up throughout the island. 4 of them were directly in front of me and were shining brightly to my eyes. Of the four, one was a deep red, one was a whitish gray, one was golden brown and the last one was black with green streaks.
I assumed that that was Drake, Minya and Brock respectively. I didn’t know who the last one was but I assumed it was either Layton or the creature I had seen.
I picked up the pace. They were only a mile away from me. It would take me minutes to reach them.
Hang on. I thought. I am coming!
