I watched as all of my friends continued to suffer and scream in pain as their muscles grew and tightened, slenderized, grew thickened and filled with blood, or turned to perfection. Kent and I had only had to suffer through the body cleaning part, and even that had been horrible, I could only imagine the pain they were going through.
Instead we were shown options. I still hadn’t looked over mine but Kent was pursuing his options debating between his three skills. He had gotten a Skill Upgrade token (uncommon) that let him see two possible upgrades for each of his skills and would let him enhance that skill. He and I both knew that he was going to end up choosing either dragon scales or lightning punch, but he might as well consider unarmed combat, it affected him quite a bit.
I on the other hand had gotten a Spell Gain token (Very Uncommon). Frankly, I was afraid to use it, who knew what spells I could get? For all I knew I could be offered 2 spells that were trash and would limit my growth instead of help it. Inside, I was terrified to use it. I knew I had to but that didn’t make it any easier.
Kent’s eyes flicked back and forth and he sighed. “This is such a difficult decision. I have finally narrowed it down to only two decisions. One is an upgrade for lightning punch into storm punch, and the other is an upgrade for dragon scales called dragon armor. I’m torn, they both seem so good.” He complained.
I just rolled my eyes at him. “Kent, all of those options sound good, and you're complaining!?! What is this nonsense? Just choose the one that you would use more.” I told him, staring at him as he thought deeply on his choice.
Finally he just let out a sigh. “I am going to embrace my inner storm titan and choose storm punch, it just sounds too cool.” He told me reaching up and clicked something. “There, got it.” He said before he exploded.
I squealed and backed away.
Kent’s eyes closed and he started to hover lightning racing along his body, seeming to be absorbed into him, there was also a storm cloud hovering over him that was cracking menacingly every couple of seconds.
I looked on, intrigued. The way the lightning was reflecting off of him made him look really cool and it also gave me a ton of ideas about how to manipulate my own magic, like make whips out of my mana so that I could become more offensive instead of just being a healer and defender I could also attack if the situation called for it.
As my brain spun with ideas Kent’s eyes suddenly blazed open, leaking bright gold and azure light that seemed to reflect and bounce around off of everything in the premises. His eyes were gorgeous, looking like something that reminded me of an angel.
I shook my head and slapped my cheek, snap out of it girl I thought, he is probably not into me like that.
I took a deep breath and took out my token again, after the body cleansing finished, the token had reappeared with some slight changes. Now it had a green glow emanating from it and it had a wand on one side and a crown on the other.
I held the token in front of me and spoke clearly. “Activate.” As soon as I finished speaking a screen appeared in front of my eyes showing me all of the options to choose from.
Spell - Healing barrier: Lets you create a barrier made of mana that shields the target while also healing them, providing both cover and enhancing survivability. Costs little mana to create and lots of mana to maintain.
I could already make walls and I could heal from a distance, making this spell not very useful. I even thought that I might be able to create this spell on my own with some tinkering around, next.
Spell - Healing Spear: Lets you create a giant spear out of healing mana that can be thrown to either heal or hurt the target. The healing aspect of the shield activates on the command “Save” and sends a wave of healing power flooding through their body greatly helping them. On the flip side, the command “Harm” sends a wave of mana throughout their body disrupting their skills and mana flow while also making their physical body much weaker.
This one was interesting. Using healing to attack others? I was definitely interested in that type of spell. I noted it and moved on, interested to see what the others were.
Spell - Self Heal: Heals yourself to the absolute peak while remaining incredibly efficient. Costs little mana and can fix almost all wounds. Is ineffective against curses, debuffs or other magical wounds.
Seemed good, but not good enough to merit me picking it over the healing spear. Next, up we have…
Spell - Minor Resurrection: This spell can bring someone back from the dead as long as their major organs are intact enough to survive. Only brings them back to the lowest possible state that they won’t immediately die in. Costs a MASSIVE amount of mana.

I gaped. This spell… It was easily the best one out there. The ability to revive someone from death?!? It was an amazing spell but it definitely had its drawbacks. The only thing that made me hesitate was the chance of an even better spell out there. I doubted it was possible, but there was always a slim chance that it would happen. On to the next.
Spell - Snipe Heal: Heal from a distance of over 200 yards by aiming your finger at the target. Costs more mana the farther it travels. This only heals the target of all of their internal wounds, no external wounds.
Nope, just nope. I didn’t need to heal someone from that far and I would be just fine to go just a little closer just to get in range. Also, the effects were terrible. Who would want just internal healing? I got rid of that option and moved on to the next one.
Spell - Splash Heal: Creates a 5 by 5 foot orb that can be smashed against the ground to explode and create a wave of healing water that covers everyone close to it. Doesn’t actually heal them just drastically improves their own personal regeneration. AOE spell that costs a moderate amount of mana, more mana can be added to make it bigger.
It was a good spell, but not for me. Like before I could probably replicate it if I tried hard enough and if not I still had group heal. The only thing that made me pause was the effects. It didn’t just outright heal, it made the personal regeneration drastically rise. The human body was amazing. Just on its own it could perform countless miracles. With help? The possibilities were almost endless. I decided to go with my gut and pass it by though. I needed a spell that would make me far more useful, whether that be better healing or an offensive spell like Healing Spear. I pushed on.
Spell - Heal Vortex: Creates a vortex of loose healing mana that can travel and heal allies. Is invulnerable damage from physical sources and it is resistant to most types of mana. Enemies caught in the vortex will have their lifeforce slowly drained filling up the vortex even more. Allies in the vortex will be healed as much as their body can handle. Moderate starting cost but massive overtime cost. Vortex is 25 by 25 feet.
Now this one was really nice. Not only was it both attack and heal it was something that automated itself and let me act on my own as long as I fed it mana, the best of both worlds. My only hesitation was the thought of the Minor Resurrection spell. I could potentially save the lives of my friends whenever the situation called for it. I wouldn’t have to lose my friends.
But it was not to be. I had to go with what was the best overall, not just the best in one aspect. I rechecked over all of the spells and then moved on to the final one. It was… very disappointing to say the least.
Spell - Distance Heal: Heals target from a distance giving you more range to do whatever you want. Small amount of mana. Only heals surface wounds.
I wanted to smack the creator of this spell. I both already had something better than this and it was far less effective, what a scam. It was sort've refreshing seeing something not really good as the final option. It made my life so much easier.
I looked at the final two options. Vortex was better than the spear in my opinion so the Healing Spear was out. Now it was just down to Minor Resurrection and Heal Vortex, both amazing spells.
Inside I knew what I was going to pick all along but that didn’t make the choice any easier. With a defeated sigh I selected Heal Vortex. It was the more superior spell, but as I watched all of the other spells disappear I felt a pang in my heart. I wanted to be able to save people from death so badly it was burning me up inside.
But I knew I had to think logically. I could always get that spell later and I needed something that would boost my growth now. I also trusted my friends and believed that they wouldn’t get too hurt.
I checked Heal Vortex’s description one more time before opening my eyes to the real world.
Just looking at it made it easier to deal with the pain of losing the resurrection spell. I knew that I would benefit immensely from this spell.
Suddenly as I opened my eyes I felt healing power surrounding me and I hurriedly closed my eyes again.
I felt the power seep into me, strengthening my mana channels and making it far easier to cast spells. It worked quickly, making my bones imbued with healing magic, which made it harder to permanently damage them. It also made my organs more efficient and boosted my overall health.
I sighed happily and opened my eyes, green light spilling outwards. It was gorgeous, a dark green with lighter hues mixed in.
I turned and found Kent staring at me. He smirked. “You sure took your sweet time, tell me what you got!”
