"It's okay, love. Get dressed and come downstairs ASAP. I'll make you your favorite Okonomiyaki dish." The lady instructed as I began to think. What the hell was an "Okonomiyaki?" I had never heard of such a thing, but if she said it was my favorite, I guess I would like it.
Yet deep inside, I remembered the times my mother would tell me the same thing about disgusting stuff like "Kale" or "Broccoli." EW, I hated those two things. Who would eat such a poison by choice? Not me, that was for sure.
Yet, even when I want to find some clothes, all the options in my closet are so "girlish" I don't have a single pair of pants or something a little more masculine. It was all dresses and skirts, so I had a difficult time choosing what to wear.
Eventually, I landed on the most masculine-looking outfit: a blue blouse with blue underwear covered with a small kid's Overall. I didn't particularly like my style, but it was better than the other choices, which were all extremely girly dresses.
I knew I was a girl now, but I still didn't find those clothes suitable, mentally speaking. They were too much for my fresh mind to take on, even if I would eventually have to accept my reality. I'm no longer a boy. For some reason, god gave me another life, but as the opposite gender. Was it because I used to make fun of my sister? Perhaps.
God saw how badly I joked with my sister's weaknesses and, therefore, punished me in my second life to compensate for the bullying. All I could do now was to accept it as there was no contradicting god. If he chooses to do this to me, then I can't do anything to change this fact.
I soon went downstairs as my mother told me to immediately be hit by the unique aroma of whatever she was cooking. It smelled delicious. I could smell the scent of herbs and spices as I approached what I assumed was the kitchen.
"Hey, good morning, Yoimiya." Another lady greeted me at the kitchen table as my mother prepared whatever an "Okonomiyaki" was. I soon greet the lady so I don't seem disrespectful.
"Good morning," I say as I try to avoid labels since I don't know who she is. I guess it could be possible for her to be my mother and the one cooking to be my maid or something. That wouldn't be so crazy. I already knew wealthy families could afford maids.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"No mommy? You usually say. Good morning, Mommy," The lady replies as I look at the other lady making breakfast.
"Good morning, mommy." I did as I was told until the lady making the food felt offended immediately, letting me know what I didn't think of.
"Oh, so you're going to say good morning, Mommy, to her, but not me? I think I'll burn your Okonomiyaki!" My other mother says wait a second. How can I have two mothers? This doesn't make sense. Yet even if I didn't comprehend it, I knew I would have to go along if I wanted to blend in, so I gave her the requested greeting.
"Good morning, chef mommy." It felt weird to say the least. What kind of nation did I land in? What sort of place allowed two women to be married, and more than all, how the heck did they even produce me? There were too many questions.
Yet, the delicious aroma of whatever chef mom made soon made me forget all of it as she served me the "Okonomiyaki." The aroma was different than anything I had ever smelled, and the look of the dish was appetizing. I could already tell it would be delicious and confirmed it with the first bite.
"Uh?" A slight surprise noise leaves my mouth as I get hit with the most delicious food I have ever had. It was sour, yet sweet, with a unique smoky profile. The texture was crispy and creamy in the middle, with a hint of spiciness I had never tasted before.
What did the lady call this? Okonomiyaki? I absolutely love this thing! It immediately jumped to the number one stop in my favorite dish ranking. It's like a pancake with a twist. Who wouldn't love this flavor? Only a fool wouldn't like it!
"Mphm, Mphm, MHPPM! Who makes the best Okonomiyaki? Me or Ariel?" The lady who served me this fabulous dish says while I'm devouring the meal.
"Definitely YOU!" I scream after finishing the entire dish. I was so into it that I even forgot my table manners, just eating it like a caveman with my hands and ending up with a dirty mouth and fingers covered in the dish sauce.
"Hey! I also make delicious food! Mpph! That was rude!" Ariel reprimands me while she cleans my mouth with a napkin, making me feel stupid. How did I let my instincts take over? I don't know the dish! The dish made me! I'm actually not this uncivilized!
Ariel finishes cleaning my mouth, and as I think about my actions, I feel pretty dumb. I could've been more considerate about the lady next to me, though, in my opinion, it was unsensible of me not to consider her before judging. I'm sorry, Ariel chef mommy is just better right now.
Show me your skills whenever you can so I can better judge your skills! Until then! Chef mom wins! Okonomiyaki wins over my heart!
