Chapter 35: Afterlife

Chapter 35: Afterlife

John didn't have any connections with the wizard world. But that wasn't a problem. He held out his hands while sitting on a brand new throne made of stone. It didn't have the powers of the mysterious golden throne. He just felt like sitting.

It floated above his infinite maze.

There were screens all around him. He was using the abilities he acquired when the blue cube was fused with him.

He looked through many different universes. Until he found a wizard world.

John held out his hand and grasped it.

A phantom soul was formed.

He directly sent this into his universe, where he tempered it with tribulations until it had a spiritual sense and nascent soul.

He then summoned it once again into his hand.

He put a disguise over it, making it look like an ordinary soul.

He then injected it into the wizard world!

He could naturally see his surroundings through his spiritual sense. The Qi came from his consciousness. Despite there being none in the environment.

He formed a weak normal body from the soul and wandered in the wild. He didn't use his spell to conjure clothes as he would alert the world will since his soul wasn't yet a native.

He was surrounded by wolves and eaten.

This was all intentional! He didn't want to be constantly suppressed by the world will. So he planned to make this soul a native.

His soul sunk into the ground all the way to the core of the world. While it was sinking, he saw an underground world.

"It seems this world has different levels of civilization in different layers of the world."

After sinking for many hours.

He hit the core. There was an infinite space in a single point. This was the world will!

John had entered the afterlife!

He soon was in a river of souls full of souls that looked ordinary. He was glad he had developed a disguise for his soul.

Normally without a body. A soul would be unconscious. Just like how John was initially unconscious when he first lost his body and wandered around the universe for millions of years. It wasn't until he acquired a body that he gained consciousness again.

But he wasn't ordinary anymore! His nascent soul was capable of thought by itself.

He was fully conscious through the process of the afterlife.

He saw an entity picking out souls and eating them as they passed by.

Luckily, the entity didn't notice any abnormalities. It missed him among the millions of souls that were flowing down this river.

Eventually he saw the end of the river. At the end of the river was a white square portal.

Once John went through the portal he appeared in a court.

There was a judge and he was given a spiritual body temporarily.

Everybody was conscious during this part of the afterlife.

Essentially the Judge would rule whether or not you lived a wicked life. If you did. Your soul would be trapped forever in a prison, never being able to reincarnate.

If you lived an honorable life. You would be allowed to go through the seven trials. If you passed all of these trials, you would be allowed to reincarnate.

If you reached 'enlightenment', you could sever the cycle of reincarnation and become a judge or work for the world will, or you could fade away into nothingness and have your soul disperse peacefully.

The Judge was extremely confused. Normally, if babies died. They wouldn't have to go through the trials. They would immediately be allowed to reincarnate.

So he had never once seen such a short transcript.

He didn't know how to judge this person!

He coughed.

"It says here that you died a gruesome death... there is no other records..."

John spoke up:

"Yes. I don't remember where I came form or who I am. All I remember is getting hit by a truck and waking up in a body in the wilderness."

The Judges eyes immediately lit up!

"You transmigrated from another world!"

The Judge had dealt with others who had been hit by truck-kun. He knew exactly what to do!

"Your soul found its way across the multiverse to get here! You are a destined person. Your death is simply the beginning. I will allow you to take the trials!"

John disappeared from the court room.

He then found himself at the bottom of a staircase of a billion steps.

There was a lady at the bottom of the steps drinking tea.

"You can climb all the steps or drink this tea."

John felt the tea was calling his name. He also wanted to know what would happen if he drunk it. He wished to understand the afterlife of this world.

"I'll drink the tea!"

"Good, good! Have a sip."

John sat down and drunk the tea.

The middle of his head felt funny.

He then realized something.

Who was he? How did he get here?

His public consciousness had been completely reset.

The lady waved her hand and he appeared at the next trial.

The clarity returned to his eyes as memories from his private consciousness flooded his mind.

He soon remembered who he was.

"I see. So a normal person would choose the tea and lose themselves. Luckily, this is just a phantom soul! I would've lost over a thousand years worth of knowledge otherwise. I suppose I never would've died in the first place though."

John looked forward and saw an old man.

"I know you don't know where you are, or who you are. But this trial, it will determine whether you are born as a human an animal. Or an insect!"

The old man touched John's head.

He then immediately was blown up.

The old man reformed and looked at John in shock.

"Your soul meets the highest level of requirements! I don't think an animal would be able to house it. You pass this trial!"

The old man had cold sweat running down his back.

"What sort of monster did the court send me? A reincarnation of a god?"

John appeared in the third trial.

He appeared on a bridge with train tracks. The rails were gone. There was a huge gap in the bridge. A train was coming!

The third trial was a moral dilemma constructed from a dream of the person taking the test.

The person had to find a way to alert the train.

By sacrificing themselves.

John rushed towards the train and laid down on the front of it.

The person watching the trial was confused.

"He is just a mortal? He plans to use his body to stop the train? All he needed to do to pass was alert the train of the hole in the bridge..."

"There's no way he can stop the train with force? Right?"

John was in the front of the train with his hands on it.

His feet were stuck in the ground and sliding through it. The rails were getting dug up as the train pushed him forward. But the train was losing speed! It was getting clogged up.

The front of the train was hanging off of the bridge. John's feet were bleeding.

But he had stopped the train!

The person in charge of this trial was shocked.

"The mental body is based on how strong the person sees themselves. What has he gone through to think these are his limits!? There's no way an ordinary person could stop a train through brute force alone! This must be a reincarnated hero!"

John passed the third trial, not realizing that that he overdid it.

The fourth trial was a test of greed. This trial appeared based on the strength of the soul of the person. Not everyone got this chance to pick.

All sorts of powers and abilities were offered to John.

He was told that he could acquire a 'golden finger' at the price of another persons life.

John didn't feel he needed one. So he turned down the offer in an instant.

Even if he had chosen a golden finger and killed another person. He would've passed the trial. But he would be given a special curse on his soul that would make accidents happen in his life. This was called the 'aura of a main character'.

Luckily, he wasn't greedy. So he wasn't 'cursed'.

The 5th trial he appeared holding a ceiling that was crushing other people.

This trial was with other people!

Nobody knew what this trial was testing.

An old lady was looking at the people getting crushed by the ceiling.

"If you are crushed, your soul be tortured for a thousand years!"

The old lady laughed.

The people were trying their best to hold up the ceiling.

Someone tried to calm everyone down.

"Do not rush out! It'll only get harder for everyone else. There has to be a way for all of us to pass this trial!"

A person ignored them and ran out.

"You pass!"

The person vanished.

There were 15 people left.

The ceiling had become heavier.

People were tempted to run out and pass the trial.

But if someone left, the pressure would only increase.

John spoke, completely unafraid of getting crushed.

"I have a technique that'll allow you all to escape! When I say go. Everyone run. I'll hold up the ceiling!"

Everyone was surprised.

They all had mental bodies. None of them had kept their levels from the past life. How would someone use a spell?

John channeled Qi from his nascent soul through his body.

'Devil Transformation'.

His strength was boosted by a hundred times!

His muscles expanded. His skin looked bright red.

"GO!"

Everyone ran out as the old lady looked on in shock.

"That's impossible!"

"That's 9000 kg of pressure!"

The people that rushed out looked back at John holding up the ceiling by himself.

He was on one knee... but something insane was happening! He was actually starting to stand up.

The mechanism that pushed the ceiling down was breaking!

He was now fully standing up.

He threw the ceiling up destroying the mechanism as he rolled outside of the range of it.

The ceiling fell back down.

Nobody had been crushed!

The old lady was surprised. But grit her teeth.

"You all pass!"

As they were all disappearing. Someone asked John.

"How did you do it?"

John's muscles were completely torn.

"I'm just a little bit stronger then average."

John smiled and vanished.

John was now in the sixth trial. He found himself on a boat in the middle of the ocean.

He was with the same group of people.

They saw the person that had ran out first and were extremely angry.

"Hey guys... I just wanted to su-"

He was thrown into the ocean by the mob.

People gathered around John.

"You were awesome!"

They then noticed that he was bleeding from his eyes and ears.

He coughed up blood.

His mental body couldn't handle devil transformation.

He tried to activate his immortality.

But it seemed that he couldn't manipulate this mental body.

Since it wasn't an actual body and just a simulation.

He collapsed to his knees and could barely stay conscious.

"Are you alright! What happened?"

An old man spoke:

"The strength he displayed likely came at a cost! The cost of his life... if he dies in the trials... he'll be trapped forever."

John obviously wasn't worried about someone trapping his 'soul'.

The person that spoke was the guardian of the sixth trial!

His voice boomed:

"Because of that anomaly, more people survived then normal. There is only enough water and food for three people to survive to the end of the trial. The trial ends once you find land."

"If you fail to pass the trial, you will not be able to reincarnate. You will be sent to the same jail as the wicked!"

John was close to death.

He wasn't use to not being able to use his immortality.

His mind went through many calculations.

He then found a solution!

He grabbed a person near him. He whispered to them.

"Bring me a board..."

The person saw him as their savior so they listened to him.

John began to do something legendary! He began to draw a formation using the entire runic library. He was doing this even without his forbidden dao pillar! This may not seem impressive, but only a formations 'god' could pull this off.

He powered the formation and his body was instantly covered in green light.

The people looked on his amazement as he was healed. He had combined his knowledge of formations, artifacts, and magic circles. In order to make a formation that could cast the spell 'Intense Healing'.

Everyone saw John as someone that could perform miracles.

A person tapped him on the shoulder. He turned to look at them.

"How are we to ration the food and water?"

People saw John as the leader of this group.

John just laughed.

He had tried to use his private consciousness to cast spells in this world will.

But he wasn't yet a native of the world. His soul would be sealed if he casted a spell himself.

So in a last ditched effort he had tried making an formation.

But it worked!

John began to modify the program on the wooden board.

He activated it again.

This time a whole bunch of cubed tofu like food appeared.

"What is this?"

"It is food!"

"How did you do that?"

"Magic."

"What about water?"

John modified the program again and powered the magic circle spawning a ball of water.

Everyone was excited! Didn't this mean they would all pass the trial?

John could survive off his nascent soul alone. So he didn't even eat the food or drink water the entire time.

A few weeks went by, there wasn't much to talk about, as everyone didn't know who they were.

They found land! They then vanished to the final trial.

The seventh trial was simple.

It simply erased their memories of the trial and cleansed their soul.

This was what John was after in doing all of this! He was baptized by the world will and his soul became a native of this wizard world.

He became aware of his body as he was a fetus.

After a few months he was born!

He looked around and found that he was born in the slums...

His mother had died from giving birth to him. As for his father? He was nowhere to be found.

John didn't plan to remain a baby. He would use his control of his body to rapidly age!

Him being an orphan? It just made this process more convenient!

Had he been born with parents to look after him. He would've had to play pretend.

But his bad luck had actually sped up this process.
