"You all may not know me. But I am a formations god! I have unfortunately passed away. My soul was destroyed. But I do not plan to let my inheritance fade into nothingness. If you pass my trial, you will gain my inheritance! The coordinates are: "
The peaceful environment of the sect was interrupted by the leftover message of a true immortal! It also wasn't an inheritance meant for himself, but one of the rarer types. An inheritance intentionally made to pass on the fire of a true immortals life's work.
The bells rang in the sect and soon a crowd of people were in the center of the sect. John had shown up as well.
"It has been many years since we have summoned you all. I am sure you are wondering the reason behind it. Well, it has come to our attention that a true immortals inheritance is surprisingly close to the sect. We have the rough coordinates. Everyone is to join a group and search for it. Remember, don't explore it without permission! Failure to comply will result in death."
Soon John was in a group made from 20 of those in Qi Condensation, five of those including himself in foundation establishment (even though he was core formation in reality). Then a single core formation.
Everyone was issued talismans for communication and identification as they left the sect.
"Keep your spiritual sense out for the entr-"
A blue portal opened up in the middle of the sky.
"That was easy. Do not approach the portal until we have permission from the patriarch."
Soon the core formation contacted his superior and was given permission.
"We are allowed to enter, remember to turn in anything you find into the sect. We will redistribute benefits later depending on your contribution."
With that, those that could fly flew up towards the portal.
But they were intercepted by another sect.
Fighting broke out and half of those in Qi Condensation died...
John rushed into the portal!
He immediately found himself supposedly in space. He was surrounded by celestial bodies. A screen popped up.
'Do you wish to inherit the techniques of a formation god?'
'Y/N'
John obviously selected Yes without a moment of hesitation as he went into a deep sleep.
He found himself in the middle of a desert as he felt his cultivation slowly get stripped from him. He became a foundation establishment cultivator, then a Qi Condensation cultivator until he was just a mortal.
He passed the first trial.
He then was teleported to a large field.

'Walk until the end of the field.'
There was broken glass and nails everywhere.
He began to run.
By the end of this trial, his feet were completely torn up and bleeding profusely.
He then was teleported into a gas chamber and had to endure being suffocated with chemicals.
He passed this trial.
He then had to walk to the end of a hallway in a giant burning furnace.
He naturally passed this test.
He was then tested on talisman logic. He passed with flying colors. Then he was tested on artifact knowledge. He once again passed. Then it was time for the final test, formations. The test questions were all written by him in the first place. So he instantly was able to answer them despite them being incredibly complex.
He then entered the eight trial. The curse bestowal ceremony.
His 'willpower' was tested. But in reality, only John would pass this test. Nothing was fair from the start! The other trials were just there to trick everyone else.
Runes filled the air as a tornado of magic surrounded him.
He began to float as a light shot into his brain.
His cultivation was 'restored'.
Qi Condensation.
Foundation Establishment.
He was then 'blessed' by the previous true immortal and instantly became:
Core Formation!
He inherited this inheritance and was ejected from the pocket dimension as it collapsed, removing all evidence of it ever existing. The blue portal closed.
People randomly appeared in the sky and fell to the ground.
Some woke up, some had died in the trial and had become brain dead.
John didn't have a quiet exit. He needed people to know he was the one that won.
He was floating in the sky with a tornado of magic runes rotating around him.
His eyes were glowing blue.
"I HAVE BECOME A FORMATIONS GOD!"
His voice boomed like thunder and everyone looked at him in shock.
The tornado stopped.
His eyes stopped glowing and he passed out and fell to the ground.
When he woke up, he was already in the sect and the patriarch was sitting beside him.
They had never really talked much in the past.
"John Destinatus. Born in a mortal family with low grade space spiritual roots. You survived a previous hunt for the inheritance of a true immortals inheritance. You were chosen to be in charge of a recruitment campaign and in the end recruited over a hundred disciples for the outer sect. You spent over two decades in the outer sect building a foundation. Once becoming a foundation establishment cultivator, you stopped progressing and focused all of your attention on formations. After a few days of learning, you found out you were a genius in formations and became a teacher. You taught over 200 students over more then a decade. During your vacation time, you became an operator for the sects main formation, and presented many original ideas."
John listened as the patriarch told him his life story.
"You are 42 years old and were originally at the early stage of foundation establishment. But in your second hunt for a true immortals inheritance, you successfully passed all the trials and tribulations."
John still naturally hid his cultivation. But after being inspected closely by a spirit severing cultivator, he was seen through! But luckily, this was all according to plan.
"After passing the trials, you were bestowed a curse over your soul made by the original creator of the inheritance. This gave you a one time boost that instantly shattered your limits, pushing you to core formation!"
John thought he would have to explain what happened. But the patriarch had already searched his consciousness and knew 'what had happened'.
"From your history, we know you are extremely trustworthy and not a demonic cultivator. Your fortuitous encounters are documented and everything makes sense. But I will have to step over the line in this question."
"Do you plan to share the inheritance you have acquired with the sect?"
John spoke passionately.
"I wouldn't have had the opportunity to explore that inheritance without the support of the sect. I am willing to pass on everything I learned!"
The patriarch smiled, and thought:
"This kid knows when to retreat and advance, he isn't greedy at all for the inheritance! Not everyone could make the same decision in his shoes. He is likely to become a formation cracker in the future. We must invest in him! So that when he grows up, he'll have even more gratitude towards us."
Little did he know, that the whole inheritance was just a fake trial John made to explain his cultivation!
