Chapter 20: Four Disciplines

Chapter 20: Four Disciplines

John traveled back to the sect. He did this on foot. While yes, a foundation establishment cultivator could fly. It was different then using a flight spell. It required a technique, so him flying around before getting one, could lead to some questioning he'd rather not go through.

Once he got to the entrance of the sect he was stopped.

"I'm John Destinatus. I retreated to breakthrough to foundation establishment. I checked out with the task manager."

They looked through the papers on their podium.

Then seeing that he was wearing the sect robes as well.

They let him through.

John went to the task manager.

"Congratulations! What concealment technique are you practicing? It is really good! I can't tell if your a mortal or a cultivator. Haha."

"It's my own creation!"

John didn't bother to announce that he had a perfect dao pillar.

It wasn't anyone else's business...

Since John was now at foundation establishment. He was promoted to the inner sect.

"Did you guys hear? The elder John of the outer sect finally entered the inner sect."

"How long did it take him?"

"Twenty years!"

"Is that suppose to be impressive... it only took me eight years."

"He had uncommon spiritual roots though. I think it was even low grade as well."

"What!? No way."

John moved out of his room and was given his own cultivation cave.

He was also surprised at the grade of pills given for his monthly allowance. Everything had been improved. During the last ten years, he had been studying 'Soul Domain' and had gotten some insights from it.

It was a technique used by a true immortal though. He wasn't anywhere near close to that level. He had just completely memorized it. It required the person to be nascent soul to even use its most basic functions.

He soon found a problem.

Progressing was becoming too hard!

It had taken him twenty years to become a foundation establishment cultivator.

Twenty years to build a single dao pillar. He calculated his speed and found that it would take roughly 120 more years to reach the peak of foundation establishment. This was all just to build a core.

His lifespan had become 150 years after becoming Qi Condensation.

What was the lifespan for someone in foundation establishment?

It wasn't much higher. Just an additional 50 years.

So a lifespan of 200 years.

He was already 30 years old.

He technically had enough time.

He was immortal, so he didn't give a shit about how long he truly had left. He just cared because it would ruin his acting if he lived longer then he should have. This is why he didn't use his immortality to keep himself young. He let his body age.

Breaking through to core formation at 150 years old.

This was pretty bad.

Someone with low grade spiritual roots normally would struggle to build a foundation.

John just had the benefit of not having to sleep with this body and spending his every waking moment cultivating.

An average person wouldn't cultivate 24 hours a day. They would perhaps spend 4 hours a day, or if they were lazy. They would spend an hour or so.

With low grade spiritual roots. It would take them twelve times the lifespan to progress.

Instead of reaching peak of Qi condensation at thirty years old like John.

They wouldn't likely reach the peak before passing 150 years old.

John was an anomaly. It didn't help that those in the inner sect were heavily in the spot light. People were suspicious about his origin and encounters. Many people in the inner sect had did research on John. But what they found was a consistent origin. He was no demonic cultivator. He was simply someone lucky born from a servant family that happened to work for the sect.

But they couldn't explain how he progressed so much.

And he was only thirty years old! He still had 170 years left to progress.

John was thinking it may be time to abandon the sect soon.

He then got a brilliant idea.

People often went out for fortuitous encounters. John hadn't had the chance to run into any of those in this world. Besides the true immortals inheritance.

Couldn't he just pretend he ran into a fake inheritance?

He was the origin of magic in another world! Why not bring magic to this world?

Sure he would lose some uniqueness.

He held a library of magic in his mind in the form of a lightning tree. He could just give them the same trash magic he gave Leo as his foundation. He definitely wouldn't give them something like 'Absolute Generation'.

Not to mention he went through a special event in the chaos realm in that other supreme beings inheritance. This caused his generation to multiply by a hundred times.

Instead of recovery 20 mana in an hour.

He was boosted to 2000!

This wasn't something he could give others even if he wanted to.

John put this plan of building a fake inheritance to the side. He had yet to acquire all the benefits he could from the sect.

What other benefits could he possibly get?

A crap ton! He hadn't learned a single proper technique yet. There were escape techniques, defense techniques, attack techniques, and the four main disciplines.

Those were artificing, formations, talismans, and alchemy.

He hadn't learned shit yet in reality... he was just a fresh foundation establishment cultivator. It was too soon to think about abandoning or stirring up trouble. He had yet to extract all of the benefits of this sect.

Outer sect disciples don't even get to choose a discipline. They are at the bottom of cultivation society. Those in the inner sect are a step above.

They can get personal teachers to coach them and help them learn at a faster rate then self study.

John wasn't some reincarnated true immortal.

He didn't spawn in the world as a grandmaster level in a discipline.

Talent and hard work were essential in mastering these jobs.

How good was his talent? Spiritual roots weren't a determining factor when it came to the disciplines. John did have something that others lacked though. He had time! He also had the memories of a supreme being to browse through.

The supreme being he consumed wasn't from a cultivator world. So they didn't have knowledge on the four main disciplines. But what they did have was their profound knowledge on magic circles. This was similar to formations in this world.

John decided that he would stop cultivating! He realized that he could dedicate 120 years to painstakingly reaching core formation and waste his time becoming a closed disciple.

But then what? Continue to cultivate?

What was the point of it all? He was already immortal!

Did he just want to see numbers go up in a cycle?

NO!

The reason he cultivated was a simple one. It was to cover his weaknesses. He realized he was a special existence in the universe. But his existence meant that one day, he would experience his own personal hell. All it took was getting sealed. All it took was someone trapping his soul.

He wished to be able to manipulate his soul.

There were a few paths forward to get to this goal. One was to become a rank 7 existence. The other was to become a true immortal.

He hoped to become a nascent soul cultivator. As he figured that stage of cultivation would give him the most insights into the soul. Then he could truly protect himself.

Nascent Soul was also the bare minimum requirement to the true immortal technique 'Soul Domain'.

John figured if he used the power of that mysterious throne and combined it with the soul domain technique. He could potentially place his soul in its own dimension outside of the otz room.

He then would need a way to connect his soul to his other bodies.

Creating a fake phantom soul for each individual connection.

These were all things he needed to figure out.

He wasn't stopping his cultivation forever. He just felt that it was a good idea to spend a decade learning a discipline over not seeing results with the same amount of effort in cultivation.

Either way, he was a foundation establishment cultivator. He was no longer a weak ant anyone could casually crush. He was a slightly bigger ant that could bite back! He had no enemies currently as well.

It was the perfect time to enrich his mind.

He saw learning these techniques the same way he saw meditating alone for centuries while getting corrupted by the tree in his sea of consciousness.

Both outcomes will lead to a stronger version of himself!
