While Death was deciding whether or not to become John's student. John began to go through the supreme beings memories to refresh his knowledge of the mental magic system.

It had evolved and changed when he got that other supreme beings inheritance in the chaos realm. So his mental magic worked slightly different then it did originally.

For example. His mental energy generation was originally using 'Absolute Generation'. This allowed 500 units of energy to be generated every day.

To put things into perspective. Leo used a technique called 'Baneful Tranquility'. This generated 2 units of energy a day.

Absolute Generation was a legendary skill. But when exploring that inheritance in the chaos realm. It was boosted a hundred times! So John generates about 50,000 units of energy a day.

Not to mention, the original system requires the person to use spell slots. John became so proficient, that he could instantly cast. He originally did this by having another body focus on inscribing the spell. But now, especially after becoming a formations god. Even that wasn't necessary.

He could instantly use his mental energy for spells.

But the same could not be said for 'Death'. He would have to use the original system.

But since John required him to focus on conjuring clothes and magic stones. He decided to teach him 'Absolute Generation'.

So Death would generate 500 units of mental energy.

But John was soon surprised.

He looked into the sea of consciousness of his private consciousness.

This was his main consciousness! It was where he stored the tree made from that supreme beings memories.

John frowned as he looked at the tree.

Over the years, this tree had changed quite a bit. It didn't look dead. It now looked like a tree made from lightning.

John had his mental body look at the base of the tree.

This was where he had created his source! This was the key to his mental magic system...

His source became fragments floating in his private sea of consciousness.

The tree became a mere material in his private sea of consciousness.

John had lost his spell casting ability!

If this had happened before the cultivation world, he would of been completely screwed...

Luckily, he is a formations god. He had long ago digested most of the information on magic circles and formations.

John's skeletal body entered a state of deep meditation.

"This is serious..."

As for why the tree in his sea of consciousness shattered into nothingness? It wasn't without reason. When he casted the tier 8 spell 'Dimensional Seal'. He lacked enough mental energy for the spell. He essentially squeezed the life out of his source. The tree once again protected him through instinct, but it wasn't without a price.

He had lost the original inheritance!

John entered a state of enlightenment as a complex image circulated around him like a tornado. He began to use his mental body to pick the runes out of this image. He did all this in milliseconds as he waited for Death to respond.

He began to construct a new source! He also found a weird type of energy leftover from that skyscraper like room in the chaos realm.

It was a weird blue liquid with white text.

John began to become even more confident in the construction of a new source.

As he combined runes, he did something abnormal.

He began to create his own constructs using his mind.

He wasn't simply using the remains of his old source. He was creating an entirely new system.

That's right!

"I can feel it... tier 8."

John had been trapped at the legendary stage of tier 7 for many years.

But with the destruction of his source. Although, losing his ability to cast spells is bad. It brought an opportunity! If grasped, he could potentially break past his former limits!

The inheritance for mental magic he had learned didn't have a way to progress past tier 7 magic.

It was a dead end.

But who was he?

He was a formations god!

John became cocky to an unbelievable level.

"Why use the inheritance at all? I'll recreate the entire concept!"

With a wave of his hands the half completed source he had created shattered.

John didn't plan to create a hole in his sea of consciousness and then create a loop of an animation to generate energy with each rotation.

That was following the rules! When was he someone to be so inflexible?

This was a grand opportunity! Something he probably wouldn't get the chance to redo.

He began to create a formation instead of an animation in his private consciousness.

He shuffled the broken pieces of his core together and melted them... allowing all of the rules to breakdown and bunch together.

The foundation material? It was the tree remnants!

He created a pyramid shaped material out of these.

He then began to carve his custom runic library into this material.

You see. John had noticed something interesting. When he was going through the process of the afterlife. He wasn't able to use his immortality on his mental body. So he in a last ditch effort to survive, he resorted to using formations on the spot.

He found out through this, that he was capable of casting spells from the mental energy system using formations.

He also found out that both systems were compatible.

He inscribed over 30 million runes into this pyramid. But no, he didn't use Qi to power it.

His private consciousness didn't have access to Qi.

John also didn't wish to limit himself in that sense. He wanted his private consciousness to continue to be able to allow all of his bodies to use magic. It was more convenient after all.

Remember that blue energy that shot into his brain?

That energy he found in the remnants of the tree and old source?

He used that to run the program for his source!

This was using the power of laws to create a perfect source!

He no longer had a tree in his private consciousness. He instead had a blue floating pyramid.

The runes lit up and John felt his program running. He had made sure to have an infinite loop. So the energy would circulate for eternity. It was essentially infinite energy, and didn't rely on his consciousness to generate mental energy.

As for the rate he now acquired energy?

He had surpassed a hundred times Absolute Generation!

His generation had multiplied! He could now generate 16,000+ mental energy every hour! He was generating 400,000 mental energy every day.

He unfortunately was back at tier 0.

He quickly shot through all of the tiers, reaching tier 7 again.

He felt a barrier over his source.

But he pushed beyond!

His source would've broken again! But John predicted such an outcome. This is why he didn't recreate his old source. He created a new one, with more functions!

One of those functions was a protective barrier.

A shield surrounded the pyramid in his private sea of consciousness.

Cracks appeared on the barrier as he attempted to reach beyond the limits of this system.

But the foundation of his formation wasn't damaged!

John spoke aloud to no one in particular.

"I'm a god damn, genius!"

The members of Deathless had weird looks.

"Does master like to praise himself?"

He had did all of this in the moments he was waiting for Death to make a decision.

He had even impressed himself!

He coughed.

"So what will it be?"

John's mood was instantly improved.

"I will learn mental magic!"

"Excellent choice. You won't regret it."

John continued to smash the barrier to tier 8. The shield on his source kept repairing itself.

He unfortunately wasn't able to become tier 8 yet.

But he could feel his phantom energy bank surpassing 2048. It wasn't that he couldn't become tier 8. His limits had been shattered!

It was that he was trying to breakthrough too fast. His processing power surpassed gods. So even his source couldn't keep up with his intent.

He could feel... that within a few years. He would definitely breakthrough!

How did he know this? He could tell from the phantom energy bank. It had stopped progressing once it hit 2048. That was the limit.

But now... it had gone beyond 2048! Slightly... It was more like a small percentage of a single unit beyond 2048. But that didn't matter! This meant he could continue to progress!

Tier 8 might not even be the limit now!

John also redesigned Absolute Generation. He then created 'God Generation'.

If he was to have Death handle clothing and construction work, as well as defend the base. He would need him to have something better then absolute generation.

Unfortunately, he didn't plan to give him the energy source of his source. That would be a bit silly.

It was through his experience of creating a new source that he had gotten some insights into improving absolute generation.

As for how far he could improve it?

He couldn't come close to 400,000 a day.

But he was able to barely reach 50,000.

But that required him to personally build his custom runic library over a material.

The material he used was the broken remnants of the supreme beings inheritance. In combination with his old source. Not to mention the energy source for this being part of laws.

He obviously couldn't replicate this same scenario for Death.

He lacked materials and Death wouldn't trust him to mess with his sea of consciousness.

As for teaching Death his knowledge in formations? John was a monster when it came to formations. But he could only teach someone to become a master. That was the limit.

With these limitations. He could at most create a framework image for Death to copy and build himself.

This wouldn't be 'God Generation'.

He called this image 'Greater Absolute Generation'.

It could generate 25,000 units a day.

He could recover 1040 energy an hour.

This was about half of what John used to recover. But it was enough!

Death's limits would still be tier 7.

John would need to personally construct Death's source for him to be able to go beyond tier 7. But John knew with Death's personality, that was impossible.

The other members at Deathless also wanted to learn mental magic...

But John didn't plan on giving this advantage to everyone.

He also planned to not allow Death the opportunity to teach others.

This world already had a system of magic. John didn't plan on giving everyone his advantage.

So Death would need to sign a contract.
