Roy almost jumped out of his skin after watching the Angel Wings trinket on the counter.
“What the hell, Khyrum?” he said, still in shock from the surprise.
“You’re walking around with a tier-one Legacy in your pocket like it’s a plastic toy, shit!” he said in total disbelief.
“OH, fucking god, I can't believe this,” he finished saying with sweat dripping from his forehead.
“Tier-one Legacy?” I said questioningly.
Roy finally calmed down enough to walk to the counter. He sat on his stool, but his body shook like a leave on a windy autumn day.
“Yes, Legacies, like Alphas, are divided into three categories: Tier One, Tier Two, and Tier Three. Tier One is the strongest of the three, of course,” he said, finally catching his breath.
“How can we distinguish or check what tier each legacy is?” I asked.
Roy finally looked up at me as his eyes had been glued to the Angel's Wings since he sat down.
“That is what I was coming to explain before you so coolly threw this priceless thing onto the counter,” he said, pointing at the Angel’s Wings.
“As I was explaining, Legacies are divided into three tiers. Tier one is easy to distinguish,” he said.
“It’s the easiest because it has radiance, meaning it glows some distinguishable color. In this case, it has a golden hue, which makes it very distinguishable,” he said while glancing at the trinket.
“Tier two is harder to tell but not impossible to distinguish as it shines. Don’t confuse the two; one radiates, and the other glimmers.”
“Tier two Legacies can be said to have a glimmer to them. Even in the dark, they shine.”
“Tier three is the hardest to detect as they neither have radiance nor glimmer. But what they do possess is warmth. They always radiate warmth,” he said.
“Even in the coldest months, they stay quite warm. So, unless you encounter one in a cold month, it would be hard to identify them just by looking at them.”
I looked at Roy with a new sense of respect. He was not obligated to help me learn this, but he was teaching me a valuable lesson.
“Roy, is there a way to test what skills or abilities the legacy might have?” I asked.
“Yes, but those devices are hard to come by,” he said.
“The device itself is called a UTF or Universal Test Frame, and its only job is to test the abilities of a legacy. The major families in each committee group might have one, and of course, the auctioning houses do as well.”
“Have you ever heard of one being sold outside the legal channels?” I asked Roy.
He looked at me with half a smirk on his face.
“How did I know that question was coming?” he mumbled.
“No, but I have some friends in low places that I could call to ask,” he said.
I just looked at him and nodded in agreement.
“Last question, Roy. What would be a good selling price for this trinket?” I asked casually.
Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.
His hand froze mid-air as he was about to pick up the trinket. He looked up with a very bewildered look on his face.
“You want to sell this?” he said questioningly.
I nodded yes.
“Like you said, Roy, when could I use it if I keep it? What if someone noticed it? Wouldn’t that be a recipe for disaster?”
“I think it is best just to try to sell it and be done with it,” I said, picking up the trinket.
Roy looked at me for a second, then let out this big sigh.
“You’ve got a point,” he said, a little discouraged.
“To all this, where did you even find this thing?” he continued, looking at the trinket in my hand.
“That’s a secret, Roy,” I said.
“I can only tell you I found it in the forest outside Rayong. But it was a chance encounter,” I continued to say.
He looked at me, skeptical, but knew better than to keep asking.
“Well, Khyrum, if I remember correctly, I can check the CAD here in a bit to verify, but the last Legacy sold in the auction was about five years ago. That Legacy was only a tier two, and it sold for about 650,000,000 million gold credits.”
I almost fell out of the stool I was sitting on after hearing his last words.
“650,000,000 million gold credits” were the only words in my brain.
“Good Lord, I hit the jackpot with this,” I told myself.
I couldn’t imagine what a Tier One Legacy would sell for before Roy interrupted me.
“Khy, this trinket will be many times more expensive, but the danger surrounding it will also be more prevalent,” he said.
I put the trinket down and slid it across the counter to him. I pretended not to know what skill it was, as there was no way
for me to check as I wasn't awakened yet.
“Take it; let me know what abilities it has,” I told him.
He looked at it and was hesitant to grab it at first but then reached out and picked it up with his right hand.
He closed his eyes briefly, but I saw his bottom lip quiver excitedly a second later.
“Holy Shit, Khyrum, you have hit the jackpot with this Legacy,” he said excitedly.
“Really?” I pretended to be surprised.
“Yeah, this thing has three skills: WindBlade, WindShield, and WindWalk,” he said in total disbelief.
“I had never heard of a legacy having more than two abilities, but this one has three, and all three are tier-one skills.”
“The price on this thing will be extraordinarily crazy, to say the least,” he said.
At that moment, we both realized the dangers that would befall us if we exposed this trinket ourselves.
“Roy, we need to find an intermediary who can stay quiet to handle this for us.”
“Yes, I think that would be the best solution here, but that might take some time,” he said.
“I’ll be here for a couple more days, and if need be, I can return in the future; just message me when the time is right,” I said.
“Ok, let me get working on this then,” he said while holding the trinket.
He looked at me as if asking if he could keep it. I understood that he needed to keep it to have it authenticated.
I trusted Roy as he had already shown me that if he wanted to fuck me over, he could have done it many times over already. But he had not, so I had the utmost confidence in him.
“Keep it, Roy; I know it's part of getting it verified, but if you run into any issues, just let it go. Don’t endanger your life over it,” I said seriously.
“Okay, let's part ways here, as I have many things to check into going forward," he muttered.
"I will contact you once everything is set up,” he said as he got up with the trinket.
“I’m going to store it in my office for now before I move it to a more secure location. I’ll be right back.”
Roy got up and started walking to the back before disappearing inside his office.
I got up and started walking towards the door.
“Khyrum, this could be our big break. We need to stay calm and have Roy work his magic on this,” I told myself.
After a few minutes, Roy came back with a more relaxed face.
“It’s stored and secured for now. Well, I’ll message you once we are ready to sell it,” he said as he proceeded to the door.
He opened the door. We said our last goodbyes before I proceeded to go outside; I could hear Roy locking the door behind me. Then he shut down the lights outside of his shop.
“I guess he closed for the day,” I said.
I started walking away towards the estate, but suddenly, two annoying voices rang in my ears.
“There you are, you rascal,” said a female voice in a playful tone.
“Yeah, where have you been? You know how long we have been looking for you,” said another female voice, a little upset.
I looked up only to see Cora and Yara walking hurriedly toward me.
“Shit, not this again,” I mumbled.
I then turned around and walked the opposite way as if I hadn’t noticed them.
“Do you see that sister? He is trying to get away,” said Cora as she started running towards Khyrum.
“Hey, shithead, you better stop if you know what's good for you,” said Yara angrily, raising a fist.
I tried to hurry my steps to see if I could turn the corner and use wind steps to move out of sight before they could catch up, but the following words stopped me in my tracks.
“Khyrum, stop!; if not, we will tell everyone your secret,” said Yara with a sinister look.
