As I arrive at Rayong, I hope that Roy hasn’t closed down for the night.
“Man, this thing is heavier than I thought,” I say as I drag the dead bear behind me and head in.
After the fight, I tied a rope I had in my backpack to the bear's feet and started dragging it into town. It was late at night, and not many people were out and about at this hour, so I was not worried that someone would question me.
As I get closer to the docks where Roy’s shop is located, I see that the lights are still on, and the front gate is open.
“Good, he still hasn’t closed down.”
As I walk in, I see Roy sitting behind the counter. He is working on something and pays little attention to me.
“Hmm, Hmm,” I pretend to clear my throat to catch his attention.
Roy looks up and stares at me for a few seconds before turning back down to keep playing with whatever he has on his hands.
“I thought you said you were not going to hunt this weekend,” he says calmly.
“I wasn’t, but I ran into an unforeseen situation,” I say while trying to pull in the bear behind me.
“Really? Hmm, that’s too bad.”
“Yeah, because of that, I had to go out and catch something to sell. I need money for my school supplies,” I say as I get the animal inside the door.
“At first, I could not find anything worthwhile, but after some hrs. out in the dark, I found this wounded bear and killed it,” I continue to say as I drag the animal to the front counter.
I didn’t want to say what really happened because it would be hard for me to explain how I killed this big bear.
Roy was still preoccupied with whatever he was doing and hadn’t noticed me since I first walked in.
“So, you got lucky with this bear?” he says.
“You could say that; I killed it and brought it with me.”
“Can you tell me how much I can get for it?” I say, keeping an eye on Roy.
This last part caught his interest as he raised his head and looked at me with an incredulous look.
“You killed the Bear?” he says with a raised eyebrow like saying, “I don’t believe you.”
“Yeah, it's right here, “I say, pointing at the animal on the floor.
Roy looks at me and gets up. He walks to the counter and looks down,
I see his eyes grow wide almost immediately.
“Did you kill this thing by yourself, Khyrum?” he asks with a bewildered look.
I look at him skeptically.
“How could I, Roy? I say,
“I told you I found it injured. I’m just going to be 13 years old, so how could I kill something this big?

“By the way, what type of bear is it?” I say while keeping one eye on the beast and the other on Roy.
Roy looks at him with an amused stare.
“Hmm, 13 you say.”
He continues to look at Khyrum, but after a while, he shakes his head and grins a little before saying.
“Boy, this is no bear at all. This here is a beast. It’s a small one, but it’s still a beast.”
"You're lucky you found this thing injured, as a normal one would have torn you to shreds," he says with worry.
"This is what I was talking about the other day," he says while moving around the counter to get a better look at the beast.
“What area did you say you found it?”
My mouth is so open right now that a swarm of flies could get in without any issue. I’m so surprised that it’s a beast and not a bear.
“Did I just kill a beast by myself?” I mumble.
“Yes, I did. But that can’t be right. Can it?”
This thing was tricky, but I had a more challenging time getting away from Brandon’s mom on other occasions than I did with this thing tonight. That can’t be. Roy is trying to scam me to steal this rare bear.
I’m now very skeptical about all of this. I look at Roy and then again at the supposed beast, and I still can’t bring myself to realize that I just killed this thing.
Suppose people were to know of this. It would attract serious attention, and I would be putting myself in danger.
“I found this outside town almost dead,” I say while pretending not to look at Roy, “I just finished it off since I thought it was a bear.”
“Roy, are you sure this is not some rare bear? I only sell small portions as I don’t need much to survive. So don’t try to trick me with some excuse about this thing being a beast. We all know one human can’t kill beasts,” I say, trying to stay calm.
Roy looks at Kyram with a straight face,
“Boy, if I say this is a beast. It’s a beast, dammit!”
“Also, aren’t you going to school? Did they not teach you about the difference between animals and beasts in biology? What type of bear has six eyes?”
Roy can’t help but shake his head in disbelief.
“Boy, if you don’t believe me, you can take this beast to any other butchery, and they will tell you the same thing.”
After seeing that Roy is becoming indignant over the animal, I crack a smile,
“No need, Roy, I believe you. I was making sure you were not trying to screw me over on the kill.”
Roy glances again at me with a weird look, but then both return to the business.
"This will net you some decent money, Khy, at least 500 to 1500 silver credits, my friend," he says while probing the beast.
"I can give you all the money today as I still have to butcher this thing and then look for the best buyers," he says as he rests his chin on the palm of his hand.
"But I can advance you 300 silver credits. Come by in about three or four days to pick up the rest. The money should be ready by then."
My mind registered one thousand five hundred silver credits before it went blank. I had never seen so much money.
"Man, I got lucky tonight. Maybe I could do this for a living," I thought before I realized that no one was doing this for a living.
"I really could get in trouble if I got caught, How would I explain it to anyone else?"
Roy's words brought me back from my thoughts: "Khy, here are the credits for now. Make sure you keep them stored out of view."
"Yeah, will do," I say as I get the credits.
"I need to get moving as it is already late. I will swing around next week for the rest after I'm done with my school stuff," I say as I reach the door.
Roy nods, then grabs a wheelable work table and puts the animal on it to roll into the back of the establishment.
After leaving the butchery, I can’t believe what happened tonight.
“I need to be more careful now. I cannot let anyone know of this. Not even Lord Richie, and especially not Daisy. She would kill me if she knew of this.”
I start walking back to the Richie Estate, trying to think of a way to keep my powers hidden while also thinking of where to hide the money. Killing this beast has netted me quite a small sum.
“I need to find a safer place to put my money now that Brandon knows I have some.”
“I know he won't hesitate to come in when I’m not around and rummage through my things,” I say with a pensive look.
“Furthermore, I need to find time to work on these skills and learn how to improve them.”
I’m thinking how much money I could make if I started killing beasts myself; I could earn some decent money.
Suddenly, I remember my father's lessons about not sticking out or being too flashy.
“I can’t be reckless,” I say.
Who could I sell them to, and what excuse would I use when they ask how I’m killing beast after beast by myself? Even Roy would be skeptical if I started bringing in more beasts. One could be a coincidence, but any more would be dangerous.
“No, I must keep this to myself. I can't alert anyone, or else I will be in big trouble,” I say as I reach the Estate.
