Chapter 23-Duplicitous Relationships

It was late that afternoon, around 7:30 p.m. when I decided to leave for school. The only thing on my mind was making it to the test room. I didn’t want to think about anything else then; my priority was safety.

“Once I get to the Phys Ed building, I will have to use my wind step to move covertly around. I don’t believe anyone will be there, but I still have to be prepared,” I thought.

When I got to the school, no one was at the front gate. I waltzed in and made my way to the Phys Ed building without delay. Along the way, I looked to see if I spotted anyone walking around or doing some work. But to my surprise, everyone seemed to have gone home.

Once in front of the Phys Ed building, I looked around one last time to ensure no one was around. After looking around, I was sure the area was cleared, so I entered the building. I continued to walk the route back to the testing room. I remembered it in my head, so I had no issue returning. On occasion, I used Windstep to make the travel time shorter.

In no time, I found myself in front of a gigantic metal door with the words Test Room on top.

“I’m back,” I said in my head.

I carefully went to open the door. I reached out with my right hand and turned the knob to get the door to open. Very gently, I pushed the door inwards and slipped into the room.

Once inside, once again, I was mesmerized by the lights. It was completely pitch black, and the lights flickered like stars on the horizon. They reminded me so much of my time in the forest hunting. On some nights, it was so dark that you couldn’t even see your hand in front of you, but you could always count on the stars. They were among the few constants while I was in the forest.

“These lights are breathtaking,” I mumbled.

But just like that, I snapped out of it as I had a goal to achieve.

“Alright, K, let's get moving on this. Eventually, someone is bound to come around, so we need to be fast and efficient,”

I got to work, turned on the lights, and approached the giant machine with a sphere apparatus in the middle.

“Okay, if I remember correctly, I need to turn on the machine and work on some parameters before I can test. Well, there is no better time than now,” I told myself.

I reached out and tapped the power button on the display, and the machine lit up like a Christmas tree.

“So power is on.”

“I can see three tabs all in red; the first one says test type,” I told myself.

I pressed the first one for the test type and put it in New Test.

“Okay, that’s done; the tab turned green. So this must mean the machine is ready to start when all three tabs turn green.”

After thinking for a bit, I looked at the second tab.

“The second tab says Skill Type. If I remember correctly, Mr. Warnick said this skill was for body enhancement, and he got it from the Thurmis, so let's see if I can find something similar in the drop-down menu for this tab.”

I hit the drop-down menu on the tab and scrolled through a list until I found the Thurmis header. I then clicked on the Thurmis tab, which took me to another list with several skill names.

The skills had a DNA tab, but when I clicked to open it, it was under password lock. It probably had more than password security, so I left that alone. It would have been great if it could download some of the DNA sequences, but it was not meant to be tonight; I would not risk it.

After striking out with the DNA sequences, I continue to look for the skill.

“Man, there is only the skill that says enhanced body; I can’t find Golden Body anywhere on the list. This is my closest, so I’ll choose this one and hope for the best,” I said.

So, after clicking on the skill Enhanced Body, the tab cleared, and the second tab turned green.

“All right, we are almost done.”

Looking at the third tab, it said Gene Sequence Detail Percentage.

“This must mean how detailed I want the scan to be. I’ll put 100%, as I want it as detailed as possible. Hopefully, it will not take too long.” I said in my head.

With that, I hit the 100% tab on the screen, and the tab cleared and turned green.

Suddenly, a 15-second timer appeared on the top left of the display screen, with the words begin scan blinking underneath.

“Once I hit this tab, the test should start in 15 seconds.”

I did one final check and saw everything was good, so I hit the begin scan icon on the display, and the timer started.

I ran inside the sphere and lay down on the table. The table had an indented human outline covered in a soft, cushiony foam texture. This made it easier to rest instead of a hard surface.

“Alright, I guess we are ready to start.”

With that, the laser scanner on the roof of the sphere came to life and started making sounds. Then, it glided from the center position to the front of the table. It shot a blue laser array consisting of 6 beams. They formed quite the light show.

“Ok, it has begun,” I said in a low voice.

I closed my eyes and paid attention to any outside noises, not that I could do anything about it if someone did come in.

While Khyrum had started his examination, in a room on the second floor of the James household, two teenage girls were discussing a matter in a very excited tone.

“You’re BS me, sister,” said Cora dubiously.

“There is no way what you are saying is true; he flew away from you?”

“You know me, sis. When have I been one to exaggerate? Occasionally, I can be a blockhead, but I know what I saw today, and he was floating. It actually seemed like he was gliding when he moved,” said Yara, very excited.

“Do you think this is part of what we saw from him in the gym yesterday?” asked Yara.

“I don’t know, but this is very big if it is. I haven’t heard of a skill allowing you to glide like that. I know some top-tier Alphas can use air blade to an extreme. Some even claim they can ride it for a short distance, but I never heard of anyone riding the wind,” said Cora.

“What else don’t we know about him? What else is he hiding behind his smoke screen of solitude?” she continued.

“Could this be why he is always secretive? He always has an aura of loneliness and shadows with him. Makes him mysterious, to say the least,” said Yara.

“Well, whatever it is, we must break through one way or another. We cannot allow him to be claimed by any other family,” said Cora with a determined look.

“I had already said we need to drug him and then sleep with him. If we can get him trapped, he would have to respond to us like a man and marry into the family, wouldn’t he?” said Yara, also seriously.

“Hmm, I don’t want to trap him; I want him to come to us of his own free will. If we trap him, he will try to break free sooner or later as he will come to loath us. I already said I don’t want that,” said Cora.

“So what do we do then, sis?”

“I don’t know Yara yet; let's think about it more. Let's look at some of the older documents to see if we can spot any skill like the one he showed. Maybe we can get closer to him if we claim we have information on such skill,” said Cora as she turned on her PLE to check on school and government websites for historical documents.

While the girls were formulating a plan to get closer to Khyrum at the Richie Estate.

“Mom, you should have seen your son this morning. I told everyone that I would make the first-year students' strike team,” said Brandon.

“That’s great, son; you should make it just fine, but are you sure you want to join the school strike team? Your dad can probably get you into a more professional one,” said Daisy.

“Yes, I’m positive; I want to impress Eva by doing this. I also want that stupid ass Khyrum to know that I’m better than him. He's been strutting around with two of the girls, the James twins, and he thinks he's some big shot now,” said Brandon arrogantly.

“Two girls, huh? If I recall, Felix said his girls had gone to Elite High School to try and have a better relationship with you son. It seems I need to have a word with Commander James over his daughters,” said Daisy with a vicious grin.
