It’s early in the morning, long before sunrise, I’m sitting in the dining room of the orphanage. Next to me Jonny and Antonia are sitting enjoying the breakfast I prepared. Although, they don’t have to wake up so early, they still do to spend time with me before I go to school.
“They seem to have taken a liking in to you.” Says Mari a black haired girl the same age as me, because of this she is the girl I get along the best in this orphanage. All the other kids in this orphanage are either ways older or way younger than me, like Antonia and Jonny.
“Yeah, but I don’t mind playing big sister for them.” I answer while sending warm looks towards the both of them.
“If you don’t mind it’s ok.” Said Mari sitting in front of me putting her muesli on the table. “Anyways, how is the new school?”
“Pretty good it’s not much different than our old school; it’s just that they explain things deeper than in our old school.” I explain, before taking a big bite from my toast. We both used to visit the same school, but I was transferred out of the school.
“Ohh, cool, did you guys also already start learning about catalyst and how to use them?” Although, she visits a public school it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have talent with magic. Actually she’s more talented that most of the people on this world, unfortunately her talent doesn’t go beyond a bigger mana pool than others and a high affinity to sensing magic.
“Yeah, we started learning about how to use enchantments.” I answer, after sipping on my black coffee.
“So you didn’t learn about the other two types of catalyst?” She asked with a surprise tone in her voice.
“Yeah the teachers decided that we would be learning the catalyst one after the other since they are so important to be able to cast magic properly.” I take another bite on my toast.
“Well, it seems like you really take your subject material really serious and go through it way deeper than we do, because we just learned about the three types of catalyst and we were already forced to choose one. You sure have it good.” She says with a sad voice, while she tries her best to smile.
She knows just too well about my motivation of becoming the best mage there is, to one day be able to be noticed by my parents, since she has the same dream. It must be really hard for her not being able to join the ‘Mage Schoo’ while being as talented as she is.
I decide to not to pursue the conversation and finish gulp down my toast as fast as possible. “Boy time sure passes by fast! I gotta get going or else I’ll be late.” I say with a fake smile while standing up and walking towards the kitchen.
“Big sis! Is it already time?” Antonia and Jonny scream in chorus.
“Yes, bit sis has to get ready to go to school, or she’s gonna be late.” I answer trying to sound as caring as possible.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
“Noo, we don’t want big sis to leave!” They both scream in unision.
“It’s ok, big sis is going to play with the two of you for a while after she’s back home.” I reassure them while stroking their hair.

After cleaning up the dishes I walk to over to our orphanages storage, there I get my bike and my journey to school starts. It’s a two hours ride, because the school is located on the northern part of the city, where all the rich people live and the orphanage is located on the southern suburbs where the not so wealthy people live.
In Solum there aren’t any slums nor ghettos like on other cities around the world, so my way to school is pretty save. Still there is quite a wealth disparity between the people in the southern suburbs and those in the northern city.
The most dangerous part of my way to school are the shuttles, many people commute from the suburbs to the northern city and not everyone can afford the newest shuttle and well, the older models were as save and easy to handle as the new ones, so I’ve gotten used to see one or two accidents on my way to school.
Lately I’ve been getting better in avoiding the shuttles though, I’ve started to ride my bike through short cuts were there aren’t many people driving with the shuttles.

Let’s see what’s on today schedule...
History...,
old runes ...
and maths...
*Sight*
I hate days like today, were I don’t get to use my practical skills but have just to sit there and listen to some old hag brambling about theories every five years old would understand.
And what’s up with those homeworks they give us? I mean I don’t mind homework, but I couldn’t care less about the past or about learning how to count, I mean if you can use enchantments what’s the point in learning that useless stuff?
*Sigh*
How come I always start thinking about this kind of depressing things, on my way to school? Anyways, I should try and think about more happy things, like for example yesterday! Yeah I finally got managed to create blue flame!
*Sigh*
To be honest it wasn’t me, who managed to do so, it was that boy, what was his name again? Tristan? He sure was strange, not only how easy he was able to wield magic, but also his aura...
It was completely different than the usual auras I’m able to see thanks to my ability. Yeah, I’ve never seen such a strong aura. Usually the intensity of the color of the aura helps me to judge the strength of an individual, but with him... Not even a teacher at school has an aura as intense as his!
Just thinking about his aura gives me shivers, watching his aura was staring into nothingness! I never thought a color like that black existed!
And don’t get me started on his magic knowledge. He rewrote a spell that has been in use since over 800 years in front of my eyes like it was nothing! I don’t even want to think of how many people have tried to improve that spell and he goes and does it in a few seconds!
I bet there is a simple explanation to it, yeah there has to be an explanation to his skill. Maybe he was a grand master and was just using a youth spell to look the same age as me! Yeah, there is no way on earth someone as old as me is better than me in magic!
No one in my class can hold a candle to me, when it comes to magic, so there is no way he is the same age as me! Yeah, never in ever! He must be some kind of grand master, having fun living the live in the body of a youth.
*Sigh*
Once again I ended up thinking about something depressing!
Well, luckily I’m already in front of the school gates, so I won’t be having time of thinking depressing.
While walking to my classroom I greet a few students I got to know a little better than the rest in the last few months since I transferred to this school. Once I reach my classroom, go straight to my sitting place.
There is no time to socialize, since I always reach school on the dot.
Once I sit down, the teacher, a silver haired woman in her seventies, enters the room and takes out a piece of paper from her bag. Smiles brighter than usual “Looks like the class is getting bigger once again!” she says with an loud voice.
“Please welcome your new classmates, the twins Laura and Tristan Halblicht.” She says and starts clapping followed by my classmates.
