Abilities

Nocturnio (21.7.9973 AS)

After waking up Tristan was checked up by a healer. The healer decided to keep him one more night in the temple. That night Tristan spent the whole time thinking about the weird dream he had.

‘You aren’t bound to fate! This means you can choose whatever path you like to take; Fate won’t interfere with your choices.’ These were Bella’s words. But what could they mean? Tristan did not get it. How wasn’t he bound by fate if his fate was to fight whatever evil Bella had mentioned? And didn’t she give him the fate of living as a failure of a ‘demon’?’ just thinking about this paradox made Tristan’s head ache.

He decided to not pursue the topic any further. He had a feeling that it would be revealed one day to him if he didn’t force it. And he had promised to always listen to his hunches because they were supposed to never be wrong. ‘And what about that? Am I able to see in the future?’ He had so many questions right now, but there was no one to answer them.

“Aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh” Tristan screamed into the pillow so no one would hear. “Bella! You! You sure know how to mess up with people’s minds. Damn you! You just wait! Someday we will meet again and you will tell me everything! Yeah, I will make you tell me everything! Ahahahhahah” Tristan was so frustrated he started talking to himself. If someone were to hear him they would surely think he had gone mad.

To the question if he could trust Bella’s words, Tristan had a simple answer: Yes. He had the feeling he could trust her. She hinted how his passive was supposed to work; Ever since he had woken up, he could tell how things on his surroundings were created or how they worked just by seeing them. There were also those weird spots. He decided to call those spots ‘destruction points’ because all they did was to show him how to destroy.

Tristan knew from get go, how terrifying this ability was. He could not only see those spots on non living things, he could also see them on living things! He had seen them on the healer who had checked his condition and on Nana. Tristan didn’t have to think much about to realize that those were their vitals and that destroying a human means killing them. He promised himself to never use this power on a fellow demon.

Not only could he see how things worked, but he could analyze them just by looking at them. He was now looking at the blue light next to his bed. If people looked at it most them would see the ‘light crystal’ and the glass box it was placed in to maximize its radiation. But Tristan could see more. He saw the ‘spell matrix’ inside the crystal. Not only that, but he could tell there was something wrong with the spell matrix inside the crystal. He didn’t know why, but it was just a feeling, he had.

He took the crystal out of the box. He concentrated his mana and started to model the spell matrix to a form he was happy with. His feeling told him ‘This is how this spell matrix is supposed to look like’. He was right. The crystal was now radiating ten times stronger it had radiated before. He put it back into its box and started to smile.

‘So that is how my passive works! What a strange ability. This passive actually consists of three different abilities!’

‘I’m able to see the ‘essence’ of everything! I’m able to act according to what I am seeing, that’s thanks to those hunches. They tell me what to do to reach my goal. And lastly, my mind is able to process information faster than others and I’m also able to remember every detail of said information.’

‘The most terrifying thing about this ability though, is I’m able to use all of the three abilities separately. Those hunches alone or the ability to see the essence of things could be standalone S-class active abilities, but they are just my passive!’ Tristan had a creepy smile on his face.

‘So, what about my active?’ he asked himself. He started to concentrate. Tristan tried to summon a weapon, but nothing happened. It seemed his active was way harder to activate that he thought. He tried again. Again. And again. But there was no sign of something happening.

‘What’s with this? Why am I not able to use this ability? Wait! I don’t even know what this ability does. All I know is: It is a version of ‘Rüsten’. As far as I know Rüsten is an ability to summon weapons from another dimension. So I should be able to summon a weapon, right? But what if there is no weapon to be summoned?’

Suddenly, Tristan recalled Bella’s words. ‘That woman she always talked about my ability as if it was an actual gate not just the name of my ability. Does that mean that my ability is actually the power to open gates to other dimensions?!’

Tristan closed his eyes. He concentrated on opening a gate. He felt a strange sensation around him so he reopened his eyes. He realized he wasn’t in the temple anymore. He was in a strange black room. “Where am I?’ he asked. The sound of his voice echoed through the room over and over again to the point it made Tristan’s head ache.

‘What is this place? And why does the sound of my voice keep echoing?’ Tristan looked around. He stood up and started to walk. He gave up on exploring the room further because every step was followed by an endless stream of echoes. They started to overlap. And the pressure Tristan felt in the room started to increase. He felt like every part of his body was trembling thanks to the echoes. He wasn’t even able to think straight.

Tristan closed his eyes. Deep down, a voice told him to calm down and to just think of silence. From one moment to the other the echoes disappeared. A creepy silence took over the room. Tristan who was kneeling with his eyes closed and his hands on his ears started to laugh madly. There was no sound anymore. “Terrifying, truly terrifying!” there was no echo anymore. It seemed like he had full control over this dimension.

‘That’s why she wanted me to learn ‘Resonance’ spells. This room can create a ‘Resonance disaster’ so strong that it can destroy everything inside of it. Magnificent, but really scary. I hope I won’t have to imprison someone here one day. Now let’s get out of here and get back home.’ Tristan closed his eyes again.

When he reopened them he found himself on a balcony. ‘Great! Where am I now?!’ Tristan looked around and realized he was in the Schatten’s castle. ‘Funny, really funny! I think about going home and end up here? In this rotten place that has rejected me? This is just too good!’

He heard someone opening the window under the balcony he was standing on. “What are you doing? Did you spot an intruder? ” Ray’s asked, worried. “No, I felt my little boy” Lamias sad voice answered. “That’s impossible. The boy is long gone. He probably won’t be coming back and if he does come back to this city he won’t come to see us.” Ray said with a sign of resignation. “You know as well as I, my sensory skills have never failed me. If I say the boy is here, then he is here!” Lamia retorted.

“Tristan if you are here, please show yourself! Mommy isn’t mad at you… I will always love you…  and… I’m so sorry I’m too weak to protect you… I’m sorry I had to send you away... I’m sorry for all the bad things you had to go through because I’m a failure as a mom- ” Tristan closed his eyes again. He couldn’t stand that woman talk as if she cared about him. He just couldn’t bear Lamia’s voice full of remorse and sorrow.

When he reopened his teary eyes, he found himself back in a black room. ‘Why do I care about them’ Why am I happy she didn’t detest me? Why am I so happy to know Bella’s words about that whore were true? Why do I care about that woman so much?’ Tristan started to cry. He didn’t even know if he was crying out of happiness or sadness. But he continued crying for over an hour.

After he had gotten the grip back on his emotions Tristan started to explore this room. He had a hunch that this room wasn’t the same he had been on earlier this day. He decided to explore the room. The room was painted in black and felt like an endless tunnel. But to Tristan’s surprise the room felt like home. Here he felt safe. He felt like this was the place he belonged to. This was strange since he had never ever been in this room before. So why did this room feel so familiar? Tristan had a feeling that one day he would know the answer, but that day wasn’t today.

His active ability was actually quite strong. Not only could he open gates to other dimensions, but he could also enter those dimensions and those dimensions would listen to him. He could even use his gates to teleport! ‘How broken are these abilities? It kinda feels like I’m cheating’ Tristan thought. But something inside of him told him not to show off. It told him to hide his true abilities as much as possible.

He closed his eyes again and thought of his bed in the temple. He reopened his eyes and found himself in the place he had been sitting before he had opened the first gate.
