Lamia
Lamia was sitting in her office. Although, she was supposed to be working, she hadn’t touched a single paper from the pile on her desk. Her greenish-grey eyes were glued on the crystalline plate she had found two months ago in her desk drawer.
Back then she didn’t have a clue what it was or where it came from. Now she knew it was a communication plate or short ‘Commu’. And by now she was certain where it came from.
Two months ago no one knew such an item existed, now every demon had heard or even owned such an item. Their popularity had exploded in the past months, mostly because of their price. They weren’t cheap, but still affordable. It was like the owner of Siegfried Corp. wanted to flood the market with the items.
‘They’ didn’t like the items, because said items destroyed the old balance. Before the item existed, ‘they’ could manipulate the information for the broader public with ease. But no more now, thanks to the commu information would spread like a wildfire and ‘their’ actions were more difficult to hide.
Therefore, ‘they’ had asked her to look into the creator of the item. But the Guild Master did not want to tell anyone who the owner of Siegfried Corp. was. Even though, Caleb was a member of the three clans and knew of ‘their’ will he didn’t tell Lamia anything about the creator of the item.
He told her that Siegfried was a rather eccentric person. He also told her, that Siegfried demanded his identity to remain hidden through a contract. Of course he couldn’t break a contract.
In Umbra all contracts are magical and unbreakable. This was because of the Demon’s habit of breaking non magical contracts.
During her research Lamia had gotten the feeling she knew who Siegfried was. No, she was sure who it was, but didn’t have a real proof. She was sure it was Tristan. She knew he had hidden the item in her drawer she hid her sweets in. No one but Tristan and Lamia knew of the false bottom of the drawer. She had told Tristan one of the times he had secretly visited her about a year ago.
The other thing, that pointed towards Tristan was, he was supposed to be the smartest Demon alive! If someone could create a miraculous item like the commu, then it was Tristan.
Tears welled up Lamia’s eyes. “And I’m the reason why you created something like this” She whispered only for her to hear. She activated an item that made sure no one outside its range could hear her. Then she used the commu. The person on the other end didn’t say a word like usual.
“Hi Tristan, I know you are there. You don’t need to say a thing… I just wanted to tell you happy birthday. I can’t believe my baby is now already six years old! I’m sorry for not being there. I’m sorry for not being strong enough to be there for you. But you should know that I will be always with you, in the shadows observing you from far away.”
Lamia sighed, trying to contain her tears. “You know, everywhere you go, I will always love you and be proud of you. Yes, I will be always proud of you. Doesn’t matter if it is because you are doing great in school or because you changed this world with this item, I will be proud of you. No, I’m proud of you my son!”
For the first time ever, she could hear something from the other side: Sobbing. She could hear Tristan sobbing from the other side. Lamia smiled bitterly and started singing happy birthday to her beloved son.

Nana
It was six o’clock as Nana’s alarm started ringing. She had already been awake since earlier and turned it off, before it could ring for a second time. She stood up and went to her bathroom. She looked in the mirror and sighed.
What she saw was the face of an old woman: A thin face full of wrinkles and blank black eyes. She swallowed a pill and saw how her face turned young again. The wrinkles were gone and her young strict appearance was back to how it was more than a thousand years ago. Only her silver hairs didn’t turn black as they once used to be.
As she walked towards the kitchen, she found Laura and Tristan holding a cake towards her and singing happy birthday. ‘Oh yeah, today is my 1087th birthday’ she remembered as she thanked the children.
Laura was once again staying with them, because Dolores had some business to do. Nana didn’t mind, having another ‘child’ to look after. ‘I know their age say they are children, but sometimes I get the feeling they are older than me.’ She thought, whishing the two children to become more childlike.
After eating the cake, the children had gotten her she walked with them to school. She worked in a café close to the campus, so she could walk with them in the morning. She also used to be able to walk them home in the afternoon, but now her café had grown.
The Siegfried Corp. had requested her to open another café close to their factory. So right now she had to look after two Mitternachts.
The workers in the factories close to the Mitternacht all loved her cakes, so the word spread around. And now she was about to open a third Mitternacht in the city center close to the Portal Main Station, because the demand after her cakes were so high.
Nana sighed as she entered her office in the original Mitternacht. ‘All I wanted is to bake cakes and make children happy! And now… Now I don’t even get to bake anymore… All I do is think of is finances and making profit! This wasn’t how my dream would work. I shouldn’t have agreed to Siegfried’s proposal to open a second Mitternacht in the factory district.’
“Living the dream? Were those her words again?” Nana recalled Lamia’s words as she had gifted her the Mitternacht for taking care of Tristan. She had told her Mistress she didn’t need any form of pay for doing so, but she had insisted.
‘Living the Dream my ass, all I do is work in this office and not in my kitchen how it is supposed to be!’ She sighed again as she prepared the details for the grand opening of the third Mitternacht.

Bella
“I’m not even ten and they have already introduced me to my future husband!” A young blonde girl said as she walked in the room hysterically. “Have you seen him? Just talking to him is a pain! How am I supposed to marry someone like that!”She said almost shouting with and exhausted voice.
Bella smiled. Not the answer the blonde girl was expecting. “Why are you smiling? This mess is your fault anyways! Giving me a prophecy like that! Of course, my doting parents are gonna search of the strongest him! But the one they found… Let’s put it like this, I don’t know him for more than a few hours but I already want to kill him. Is that wrong of me?” The girl went silent starting to doubt if her assessment was wrong.
“Have you calmed down a little?” Bella started. “Why is it that every time you visit me, you are in such a bad mood?” The girl glared at Bella. “Just kidding, I know most of the time you visit willingly is because you found parts of my schemes…” Bella said with an apologetic tone using her charms to calm the girl down.
“There is one thing I can tell you though, that guy you just met isn’t yours. Yours is right now far, far away from you, not even dreaming that you are his princess.” She smiled at the girl. “How is he so?”-“Let’s put it like this, he is reliable enough, not to show up here and make a fuss, just because something doesn’t fit his plans.
The girl’s blue eyes wandered aimlessly through the room. “I guess I’ll have to teach a few more things…” Bella put on a mischievous smile. The girl recalled the lesson’s she had had with Bella until now and forcefully swallowed her saliva.
“You will have to visit me every Friday from now on, till you are a proper Lady.” Bella said playfully. “Why me?” the girl whispered. “Because to me you’re the daughter I’ll never have.” Bella said, jumping towards the girl and started hugging her.
