John was busy mapping out a system of runes to inscribe in his body. Until someone tapped him on the shoulder.
"Sir... The shelter owner wishes to meet you."
"Lead the way."
John wondered what the shelter owner wanted from him.
Soon, John was sitting across from an old man. He held out his hand for a handshake. The man's eyes lit up upon shaking John's hand for some reason.
"Quite a physique you have. Do you exercise regularly?"
"Yes."
The man was looking at a file on 'Johnathan Time'. John had no idea he had done some heavy research on him.
"A genius in school that gave up on academics. I can't say the source of your abilities come from the apocalypse. It says you killed a man while still in elementary school?"
"Yes. It was in self defense."
"You not only killed him. But you were reported by classmates to have 'dodged' the bullets. In your medical reports. It was said nothing vital was shot. From this, I think you are quite special."
Animus then handed John a phone. On it was a video of himself being interrogated by someone as Destinatus.
"Do you know who this person is?"
"How would I not know? It is Destinatus."
Destinatus was well known to most people who had used the internet.
Animus focused deeply on John's facial expressions to look for clues. He had a feeling that the person he was talking to wasn't simple at all.
John didn't like people prying into his life. So he spoke:
"Is that all?"
"I actually wish to invite you into the scouting team. We are currently studying mutants. But they have become stronger and weapons are losing their effectiveness. I have heard reports of you doing supernatural feats."
"Walking on water, air, and walls."
"I'll pass."
"Hold on a second there... You haven't even giving me a chance to explain the perks."
"I'm listening."
"There are hidden exit points and unoccupied private rooms in this shelter. All members of the scouting team are rewarded with a personal room. They are also allowed to come and go from the shelter at will."
John felt like this benefit was a trap. How would an ordinary person have the thought to explore outside in this chaos?
"What will my job be?"
"Well, I wish for you to train the other members how to use the special energy. Then once they have satisfactory combat strength. You can lead them on an expedition outside to collect the corpses."
John spoke:
"That won't be necessary. The corpses are useless."
"What?"

"I've done my own research. The crystals in the brain are the source of power."
John didn't feel this information was too vital. He had no problem with others gaining strength... could they surpass his speed?
"How did you find this out?"
"A simple experiment."
"I see... that'll definitely save manpower. Thanks for the information. But we will still do our own research."
"Shall I introduce you to the other members?"
"Sure."
Soon the old man walked to a bookshelf and tilted three books in a specific order. A secret passage opened up.
"Follow me."
John went into this passage that was completely dark.
Darkness didn't really effect John's vision. Since he was capable of seeing the area around him even when unconscious. He didn't need his senses for his will to pick up on the information of the surrounding area.
It was almost as if his system gave him an extremely weak version of spiritual sense.
Soon he was brought to what looked to be a warehouse. Except this area was underground. There was also many private rooms.
There was rows upon rows of canned food however.
The old man went to the logistics department for scouts and ordered a watch for John. Soon John was wearing a smart watch for communication with other members of the scouting team.
He had a hidden motive for giving this 'gift'. The location would be logged. This was a trap to catch 'Destinatus' if John was indeed 'him'.
The old man activated his watch and ordered everyone to gather in the warehouse. Soon John saw them exit their private rooms.
John didn't plan to carry the watch with him. He wasn't an idiot. He figured the location would be tracked. Why would he reveal his power?
He would make sure to leave it in his new room when he needed to go somewhere alone.
The other members soon gathered around him.
They sized him up, they wondered who this person was.
Animus introduced John.
"This is Johnathan Time. He will be your leader and teacher from now on."
"Teacher? What can he teach us?"
Animus nodded towards John.
John then began to walk on the air to the surprise of the others.
He was standing on aura. It was almost like he could float.
"I will be teaching you how to manipulate the new energy that has saturated our world."
Soon, the scout members were a little excited.
"You mean... we can do that as well?"
"Yes."
The team was made up of ten people not including John. All of them were male.
Lukas, Ryan, Marco, Cain, Tony, Oliver, Anos, Jacus, Myster, and Bittor.
John remembered Deathless and decided to assign them numbers.
He gave them each a number from 1-10.
Animus left him alone to teach them.
John had been a teacher in the past. He had done so for thousands of years actually in a cursed loop. He had also taught formations once upon a time.
So he quickly explained to them the process of awakening. But he had described a different method then his own way. As he had died from a blood clot from not moving for such a long time. He didn't wish for the others to die. They couldn't come back from death. So he adjusted the method.
He had them stand up and walk in circles.
"Focus only on the breath. Do not pay attention to any thoughts. When your focus drifts, redirect your attention back to the breath."
These people didn't have the same mental endurance of John. Most quit after a few hours.
"We will be doing this everyday until you all awaken. Go back and rest."
The next day. John had them do the same thing.
Ryan stopped and walked over to John.
"Is this really going to let us acquire supernatural power? I don't feel anything has changed."
"Change takes time."
Marco spoke as he walked in circles.
"Why don't you join us then?"
John smiled.
"How about this. Why don't we gamble a bit? I'll join you guys. But you must work as long as I work. If you can't do this. Then you'll be kicked from the team and lose all benefits."
John saw hesitation across everyone's face.
"No takers?"
Nobody stood out and took the bet.
"How about this. Winner becomes the leader."
Bittor stopped and said:
"You're on!"
John joined them walking in circles.
Eight hours later everyone had retired except for Bittor and John.
Bittor's feet hurt. But he didn't wish to lose. As he would be kicked out of the team.
John didn't feel like this was a waste of time as he was creating runes on his skin to try to achieve some sort of effect.
24 hours later... Bittor's legs hurt too much and he collapsed. John watched this and said:
"Not too bad."
Bittor asked if he was going to get kicked out. But John told him he had passed the test.
"Remember this. The physique of those who awaken is far better then those that are ordinary."
John focused on experimenting with runes in his room when he wasn't watching everyone walk meditating.
He made very little progress.
After two weeks. Everyone was spending a minimum of eight hours a day walking in circles. They had thought John was insane. As they hadn't found any special changes to their body...
But scouts were paid well. In food and in having a private room. Not to mention being able to leave the shelter whenever they wanted through hidden exits.
None dared to leave while they were still weak though.
While John was experimenting with inscribing runes on his skin like a tattoo. An accident occurred that lit up the expectations of everyone.
