Chapter 74: New Identity

Chapter 74: New Identity

John and Du were still wearing their disguises. They sat in an extremely expensive room. They had a bit of 'fun' by messing with the memories of the receptionist.

"Alright. Let us get down to business."

"We need identities. It would be a bit silly for me to use 'John Destinatus' as my identity. Since the name of my secret identity is Destinatus."

"I also don't feel like being reborn."

Du asked:

"So what are you planning?"

John spoke:

"I studied DNA before even visiting the data universe. When I was younger I even remained conscious as a sperm cell."

"The first step to my plan requires funds. We have already done this."

"So what is the next step?"

"We find suitable parents."

"When the the mother gets pregnant. I'll modify the genetic information and have the egg split. We will have our 'parents' have twins. I'll first need to study the DNA of the humans here as it will be different then what I am used to."

"Let's begin."

John opened up a portal and chunks of rock began to fall through it.

"An underground secret base."

John used spiritual energy to clear out the space and make it hollow. He then used spiritual energy to make a lab.

John had to manually circulate spiritual energy throughout the lab. He made an environment that humans would have no problem surviving.

They were about three kilometers underground. There was no chance of being discovered. John could've made the lab anywhere. But he figured he might as well have it on this planet.

Multiple advertisements appeared on the internet.

'Looking for participants for drug trials.'

The government didn't notice this, but the people that managed the sites advertisements had noticed that the data on their servers had mysteriously changed. They had been breached!

The advertisements were quickly removed. But some unsuspecting desperate people came to the address listed.

----------------------------------------

Samantha's POV:

"There really aren't any new drug trials..."

Samantha was unemployed and relied on participating in various drug trials to make a quick buck. She had lost her job half a year ago and had been staying in a shelter.

Technology had become quite advanced over the years and the quality of life for even the poorest was a lot better then the past.

Despite being homeless. She still had a phone and service.

She was browsing the internet, doing something completely unrelated to drug trials when out of nowhere a pop-up window appeared on her browser.

"Pop-ups? What year is it? My adblock should've stopped this..."

Right as she was about to click the 'X'. She noticed something weird.

There was an infinity symbol and a message:

'Looking for participants for a drug trial.'

"Perfect!"

She clicked the pop-up and didn't really worry if it was real. She needed money either way to save up to rent an apartment and get a job.

She looked at the details and found that the address was surprisingly close.

"It says I have to make the appointment in person..."

She was sitting outside the shelter all day either way. They only allowed people in at around 8:00 PM. Unless you came for breakfast/dinner.

Samantha walked to the nearest transport tube and stepped inside. She held out her wrist as the code on it was scanned and she entered the closest tube near the address.

She shot through the tubes for a few minutes and landed. She exited it and walked while looking at her phone.

"JJJ02... JJJ03...JJJ04..."

The address was weird.

"There is no JJJ2.5?"

She walked along the street looking for the building so she could enter the study. She then bumped into a random guy.

He stopped and asked her.

"This place is quite abandoned, huh? Are you here because of that advertisement as well?"

"I've been looking for JJJ2.5..."

"Same. Let's look for it together."

"I'm Todd."

Soon Samantha and the man were walking around in confusion looking for the place.

Todd slapped his head.

"I'm an idiot. Let's pull up the location on a map."

Soon they both looked it up on GPS.

They followed the arrow which led to an abandoned alleyway.

"Is this really it?"

There was a man in a black suit with a black mask on that blended into the darkness.

I felt as if I wasn't standing before a human.

"Are you guys here for the trial?"

"Yes..."

"Perfect. Right this way."

The mysterious man stepped to the side and a... a portal was behind him? A portal?

"No need to be shocked. This is just a small trick..."

I walk into the 'portal' and find myself in a lobby. There are about 10 other people waiting as well.

There is nobody at the desk and nobody to check-in with.

But I see a man in a white suit walking around. Everyone acts as if they cannot see him. He turns his head and looks at me.

"You can see me?"

"Yes?"

"How interesting. You are... Samantha, right?"

"How did you-"

"Come with me!"

I'm lead down a hall and into a room.

There is a suitcase on a bed with money in it.

"This is ten thousand dollars. It can be yours for a small price."

I'm shocked... just what sort of drug does he want me to test? Is it part of the special 'elite' series?

"Is the drug that dangerous?"

The mysterious man speaks:

"It isn't dangerous at all. Truthfully... you won't remember this deal. I've looked at your records. Life has been pretty tough right?"

"You lost your parents as a teen. You have no other family left alive. You've survived by testing various drugs that have left a burden on your body."

"..."

"I'm offering a once in a lifetime opportunity."

I'm slightly tempted. This is a life changing amount of money.

"What do I need to do?"

"I need you to start a family!"

"What...?"

"I'm a biotech engineer. I revel in studying the human genome. I have decided to clone myself and do a little experiment. I wish to study the mysteries of consciousness and the effects of the environment... I want to see how different twins with the same DNA will develop based on their consciousness!"

Samantha remembered reading on the internet that the government had recently approved such experiments. But to think it is already being done...

But the pay alone tempted her greatly.

The man continued to speak.

"Make no mistake. I have developed a method to transfer memories. You will give birth to two perfect copies of myself. With various memories based on what I wish to detect in this experiment."

"I can assure you... your life will forever change based on your decision today."

"What... what do I need to do?"

"A handshake! That's all...You just need to agree."

The mysterious man held out his hand. For some reason. I felt every fiber of my being telling me not to do it. My instincts told me the man in front of me was like a devil.

I bit my lip and shook hands with him.

I see my surroundings distort as I find myself surrounded by stars.

I see a blackhole.

I am sucked into it. Time seems as if it has stopped. I then find myself in a maze.

"Hello!?"

"Is anybody there?"

I wonder the maze for a few hours. I'm surprised myself that I do not tire.

A few days later. I haven't eaten or drunken anything.

"How am I still alive?"

I began to panic.

"Will I be here forever?"

"I shouldn't have shaken his hand! Let me out!"

"Let me out!"

Weeks go by... I wander the maze and find nothing.

"Please..."

Soon months go by.

I become absolutely insane. I tear at the walls as my finger nails are ripped off... I am like an empty husk of what I used to be.

I thought my life was hard before. I thought I had already experienced hell.

I laugh as I remember my days living in the shelter.

I laugh as I remember my parents death...

"I wish I could go back..."

Regret.

Endless regret.

I regret my life decisions. I should've taken a chance. I should've not lost the job that my family had for generations.

I should've created a safety net for myself instead of pushing everyone away.

"It's too late..."

Years go by... I had already broken my limbs. Nobody did it to me, except for myself. I did it to feel 'something'.

The pain reminded me that I was still 'alive'. But I couldn't die no matter how much I tried.

I was immortal...

Left to THINK. THINK. THINK.

I am not powerful. I am just a normal person who made a mistake...

Decades pass.

My wounds have healed... my broken bones mended.

I no longer remember who I am.

What was my name?

Where am I?

Centuries pass.

My physique has surpassed the physical limit. I bounce and run up the walls that are seemingly kilometers high. I spent years learning parkour techniques that I self created to reach this insane level.

I finally reach the top after trying for decades!

"Finally!"

I look off in a direction and see a black sphere. The maze around it seems to be at a deadzone.

I jump from wall to wall and make my way to the black sphere.

A year later I reach it.

My senses have surpassed human limits. I was able to see further then I ever believed possible. I am able to see more then I ever thought possible.

I jump and fall kilometers to the ground. I land and become a bloody paste. I wait to slowly heal from my wounds.

I've discovered that here. I do not know death.

I walk towards the black sphere and put my hands on it.

Sparks began to fly as it expands and consumes me.

I see a being incomprehensible.

I feel like something special is about to happen. But right before I can reach out... the environment shifts!

"We are losing her!"

I find myself in a hospital. I pass out.

When I wake up.

"Congratulations! Two healthy boys."

I see Todd standing there with a smile on his face.

"Don't worry. I remember you making it a huge point on what to name them. This little fella here is Du. This is John! They are twins!"

----------------------------------------

John was experimenting in his lab when Du walked in.

"They have been born!"

"Our identities?"

"Yes!"

"Great. This world isn't anywhere near close to the level of the godkillers. But it has a solid foundation. I can steer the direction as John Hell."

"I am a genius after all..."

John had genetically made a genius human. He planned to let it grow up and then directly take its place later on.

The same for Du.

This meant he would have a real identity in this world.
