Chapter 13: Sanctuary

Chapter 13: Sanctuary

John lost his senses.

Even his will had become blind.

His eyes constricted as he realized something horrifying.

His thoughts were the only thing to keep him company.

"What exactly are they planning?"

John had just expected them to invade reality. He didn't think they would work together.

His senses returned to him as he found himself in a black box.

A giant eyeball was floating around and seemed to notice him.

"You survived the transfer. Most of humanity couldn't withstand this first trial. There are currently 10,987,431 others of your race that have survived the first test."

"What is this? Where am I? Who are you?"

"This is the tutorial. You are in a temporary dimension constructed to debrief you. I am the Guide."

"Debrief me? For what?"

"I am not allowed to say. You have used your three questions already. Prepare for transfer."

The black box collapsed and John felt a familiar feeling. It was similar to what he had experienced when exploring the astral.

Something weird happened. He felt his existence 'freeze'.

"It seems the god's were lazy in the construction of these trials. Perhaps I have found a loophole already."

Soon his existence was unfrozen. The time could be said to be extremely long. But also extremely short.

He subconsciously covered himself in aura. But he then realized. There wasn't any in the area around him.

He still had a decent amount of internal aura stored.

Dying could also refill it.

As he was being teleported to his destination. He contemplated whether he should manifest his disguise. In the end, he decided to not use it for now. Who knew what was going to happen.

He then found himself in a giant temple with 100 other people.

There was a guy in robes that had his face hidden floating above everyone.

"Welcome everyone to the sanctuary."

Everyone started to talk to one another.

"Silence!"

Soon, everyone was quiet and listening to the man floating above them.

"You have all done well to make it this far. Now, you will compete for a reward. We have brought every civilization across the universe into this test. You are to fight for the survival of your race. That's right! This is a fight for survival."

"The prizes are considerable. The winner takes all. You will become a god... the loser, well to be clear. You will be erased."

While the person was talking. John set a waypoint in the spot he was standing.

"Many of you will die. You can betray your kind to progress or work together. I don't care..."

"You have been placed in an infinite space. Standing between you and other sanctuaries are various trials and monsters. As for what is in those other sanctuaries? More of your kind. Or those of another race."

"Supplies are limited. You will die eventually if you do not explore. Good luck!"

The man then vanished.

For some reason. There was eight human sized cages that were empty in each corner. There was also an alter in the middle of the temple. Runes seemed to be inscribed in the ground connecting the cages. It looked like this temple was used for some sort of ritual.

Everyone was in uproar at the news.

There were almost no women that had survived the transfer. Not to mention children. It was mostly man who had survived the apocalypse. All due to either insane luck or skill.

Soon everyone, including John who copied the others actions subconsciously to blend in, surrounded one man.

This man had a white suit. He also had a white mask on. It was a perfect replica of 'Destinatus'. John was growing more confused by the second.

"An impersonator?"

Soon everyone was asking questions to this person.

He held up his hands to signal them to be quiet.

"If we all work together. We can make it out of here alive."

Soon somebody said:

"Don't you have access to teleportation technology? Surely you have supplies you can share with all of us?"

The person waved their hands.

"It seems my abilities aren't working. It must be those existences have found a way to block my powers."

John sneered inwardly. He was curious. But it seems this is just a regular person.

But then the person started to walk on air.

He quickly stopped though.

"This environment lacks aura. I must conserve my energy."

The others nodded. Everyone was familiar with aura by now. Although not everyone could control it. One had to awaken for that. They had no doubts this was the real deal.

"Are you really unkillable?"

"No. I can still die. But I am a symbol. I will always come back."

Soon everyone forgot about their predicament. They bombarded 'Destinatus' with questions.

John ignored the crowd, having become bored with this faker.

He walked to the outside of the temple.

All he saw was desert.

There were harpy's flying in circles in the sky. It was then that he noticed his smart watch was gone. He quickly checked his storage space. But everything was still there.

John began to act like a parkour athlete as he scaled the temple to get to the highest vantage point. He used a bit of aura for the parts that were impossible to climb. Soon he was at the top of the temple.

In every direction all he saw was endless desert.

He climbed down and went back into the temple to confirm an idea, he also made sure to set a waypoint outside of the temple. It seems while everyone was in the black cube. They had been stripped of all electronics.

But it seemed they had no idea about his storage space. He still had his phone in his storage space. He confirmed that everyone else lacked technology.

John then heard screaming as he looked at someone getting attacked by a harpy.

The faker saved them. But time was ticking. There wasn't enough food and water for everyone.

There was also only around 10 weapons. John hadn't acted fast enough. So he hadn't grabbed one. John didn't care, as long as he was left alone.

But the people that had weapons formed a team and surrounded everyone else.

"Society doesn't matter anymore. The strong should prey on the weak. You all lack weapons. So you will have to listen to us."

John didn't react. He was wondering where they were going with this.

John watched the fake 'Destinatus' fight all ten of these men.

They know how to use aura as well. It seems his endurance isn't anything legendary. He is killed. Everyone was waiting for him to come back to life.

But he didn't.

----------------------------------------

Jack's POV:

I have been waiting for this moment my entire life. I have always prepared myself for a trial such as this. I never thought the day would come.

All of the training and pain was worth it.

While everyone was still confused. I convinced a group to follow my orders. The amount of supplies is limited.

But if shared among the ten of us. We can survive longer.

Soon, my entire group was equipped with weapons. There weren't any guns unfortunately. But this will do for now. These blades are quite sharp.

Among the weapons is a dagger and a spear, as well as a few machetes and swords.

"Society doesn't matter anymore. The strong should prey on the weak. You all lack weapons. So you will have to listen to us."

"Gather the supplies boys. Everyone help bring the supplies to this corner."

Soon everyone was listening... perfect.

I put on the mask from the guy we killed.

But one person was meditating.

I walk up to him and point my spear at him.

"Hey! You have to work too. Don't think I won't kill you."

The man opened up his eyes and looked at me.

For some reason... I felt a feeling of danger. Instinctively I stab my spear into his chest. But what happens surprises me.

It slides across his skin as if it is scratching diamond. He then grabs the end of the spear and I try my best to pull it out of his hands. But it as if it is stuck in rock.

He casually tosses me and the spear a few meters away.

I lie there on my back embarrassed.

"Brothers. Let's kill this trash."

Soon... We have him surrounded.

All of us slash and stab at him.

But he dodges the attacks effortlessly.

He then sends out a punch. It looks ordinary. But tell that to the person who received it. Their head instantly explodes.

This caused the other brothers to fight even more frantically.

"You guys are sloppy."

He stopped dodging at all. He was constantly hit by the weapons. But they bounced off his skin.

"Is he using aura?"

He grabbed one of their heads and crushed it.

At this point the leader threw down his weapon along with the seven other people still alive.

"Sir... we were just joking. How about you become the leader?"

----------------------------------------

"I don't need trash for subordinates."

John killed the rest of them.

The people that were innocent looked on in horror. They wondered if they were next.

John looked at them and laughed.
