Chapter 15: Ritual

Chapter 15: Ritual

He used aura to help sharpen the blade.

Blood flowed from the wound in his chest. Soon his heart stopped beating and he died.

John then watched the situation with his spirit body.

Blood flowed down the lines of the monolith. Everyone watched as the blood went into specially made cracks in the floor.

The Harpy's then went batshit insane.

They tried to break out of the cages. As soon as the blood lines reached them. They blew up one by one. A crystal similar to the ones found in mutants floated in the cages. They began to shine with white light.

The crystals remained floating.

A connection to this space was opened up by a god. A entity made of eyeballs stepped outside of the portal.

It was a simple avatar of a supreme being.

Some people screamed upon seeing this thing. Their heads then exploded.

"Noisy..."

Others tried to look away, but it was too late.

But they didn't go insane from looking at this entity.

The entity spoke:

"You have activated the emergency concede. You have failed. But according to the rules, you can progress to the next stage."

Despite not becoming rank 1. These people would be transported to the next trial. Their odds of survival had in fact decreased.

Then a blackhole appeared sucking everyone into it. The entity then looked around this entire sector in an insant.

He reset everything to how it was before the humans had appeared.

It noticed something weird.

"You have died. But your soul has remained. You are quite talented. But this violates the rules. Farewell."

The entity was looking at the spirit body of John.

"Oh shit."

John's spirit body and soul was destroyed.

His body was vaporized and all remains were cleaned in an instant. The crystals floating in the cages disappeared.

Once the entity was finished with his job. It was about to leave.

But then it stopped for a second.

Looking at John's reformed spirit body.

"How are you still there?"

"Oops."

John could control when his body respawned. But his soul was automatic at the moment.

John's soul was shattered again.

In that instant it was being shattered. He did something he had thought was possible.

"If my waypoints work... what is stopping me from teleporting back to the earth?"

So he respawned before the creature could do anything to him.

He actually respawned in his room on earth!

He jumped outside of his window and looked around. It seemed as if everything was frozen in place.

"How interesting..."

John had the entire planet to himself.

"Perhaps, this will be my base."

He decided it was time to return to the trial.

So he waited a little while, then blew up.

He then respawned..

It seems his hunch was correct. He now had this entire area to himself, the temple was empty. He had confirmed that at the very least, this part of the trial wasn't being monitored. Otherwise, they surely would've done something about him as an anomaly.

But the temple began to shake.

John put on his disguise. A white suit and mask appeared on him.

Light began to flicker in and out as people appeared in the temple.

There were 100 people. They were all standing as if they were asleep.

John copied the others. He remained motionless.

Soon everyone opened their eyes and started to talk to figure out the situation.

There was a guy in a robe floating in the air.

"You have all done well to make it this far. Now, you will compete for a reward. We have brought every civilization across the universe into this test. You are to fight for the survival of your race. That's right! This is a fight for survival."

"The prizes are considerable. The winner takes all. You will become a god... the loser, well to be clear. You will be erased."

"Many of you will die. You can betray your kind to progress or work together. I don't care..."

"You have been placed in an infinite space. Standing between you and other santuaries are various trials and monsters. As for what is in those other sanctuaries? More of your kind. Or those of another race."

"Supplies are limited. You will die eventually if you do not explore. Good luck!"

He then vanished.

Soon everyone was surrounding John.

"Are you really Destinatus?"

"Yep."

"Are you really unkillable?"

"I can be killed. But I am a symbol. I will always come back."

John stole the words from the faker.

John then spoke:

"Everyone. In the tutorial. We all got three questions. It is important for us to share this information with one another."

Soon everyone was discussing.

"It seems... to pass this trial. One must become rank 1."

Many people had no idea what 'rank 1' even meant.

"Look around you. See these cages and the alter? This is likely a ritual we will have to do. One or eight of us will have to be sacrificed for the greater good."

Everyone was arguing. Nobody wanted to do it.

Now was the time for John to volunteer.

"I will be the sacrifice! I am part of an organization that dedicates our lives to the people. It is my honor and duty to be the sacrifice."

John had no plans going to the third trial yet.

He planned to squeeze out as many benefits as possible here. He wondered what the mechanic behind the ranks were.

"All of you know that I am the harbinger of destruction. I have hidden info on the structure of these trials. If you follow me lead. All of you will survive."

"Firstly. I have already explored the outside. There isn't anything but desert outside."

John continued to talk. But was interrupted.

"Uhh... sir. There is a jungle outside."

"What?"

John walked out of the temple and found himself surrounded by a jungle.

"I see..."

Everyone thought perhaps 'Destinatus' was slightly insane. As it was obvious the outside looked nothing like a desert.

"Well... are there any harpy's outside?"

"There are slimes... I haven't seen anything else."

"Are you sure about the ritual? What if you're also wrong about that?"

"I am 50% sure."

"..."

Soon a team of people assembled.

John took out a few gallons of water for everyone to share. It wasn't much... but it was better then nothing. John didn't plan to give them everything in his storage space. Who knew how many times he would be redoing this trial.

It took far longer to go through the jungle then it did the desert.

There was also a barrier.

John didn't waste his time confirming if it wrapped around the entire area. He just assumed it did.

Since this was a jungle. Various animals could be found. Rain water could also be collected.

Everyone wanted John to hold off on doing the ritual. As they weren't sure what to place in the cages. John then thought back to there being crystals during the ritual.

"We need a creature with a crystal in its brain."

John then thought back to those that had looked at hidden existences and mutated.

"Perhaps there are people among you who have mutated. You should also have this crystal."

John realized that normal humans probably wouldn't work for this ritual.

The problem was telling whether or not the person was actually a sane mutant...

The food situation was handled and water wasn't a huge issue yet. It seems the conditions given to each base is randomized. As far as John could tell...

But then John started to think.

"I set a waypoint outside the first temple. What happens if I go there?"

John was already wearing his disguise. So people thought he was a little crazy. He left quietly and went to the barrier.

He set a waypoint near the barrier to come back.

He then blew up.

He picked the waypoint he had set beforehand outside the temple in the desert.

It worked! He respawned.

He looked at where the temple should be. But there was a huge crater. It looked like a sort of mine. There were steps going down further then the eye can see. It seemed the temple structure had been moved somehow.

He began to walk down these steps.

After a few hours of walking. He found a stronghold.

"The person who designed the temple must have left a way down into this dungeon. Escaping using the ritual is just a trick. The real treasure seems to be in this dungeon."

The doors into the dungeon were made of iron. John reinforced his hands with aura and used his strength to rip off the door.

John set a waypoint at the beginning of the stronghold.

The pathway was pretty narrow. But there was already a mutant blocking the path.

John then noticed that this mutant had a ring on its finger. What caught his eye was the material.

In the cultivation world. There were various materials that one could produce by stressing their spiritual roots.

You had xylo, fotia, gi, metallo, and nerono.

These were based around the five main elements.

Wood, fire, earth, metal, and water.

John could tell from a glance. That this ring was made of a combination of all of these. This was something he couldn't even find in this universe.

John figured that if he had that material to work with. He could make the ring store an enhanced attack by inscribing runes on it.

John tried to explode the head of the mutant. But it proved to be quite strong. Even with his enhanced physique. Even using aura to boost himself. He struggled to kill it.

In the end he managed to rip off its arm by using almost half his aura at once to create a pulling force in conjunction with him tearing with his arm.

He put the arm into his storage space.

He would deal with crafting this ring later.

John blew up and respawned back at the barrier in the jungle.

He still had his disguise on. He walked back to the temple. Besides asking questions about him, most left him alone.

He began to feel around the walls for a mechanism to open the secret dungeon.

He figured that there were two separate structures. The temple was obviously reused. But the dungeon was separate. John wanted to confirm this.
