Ch 86 - No Enemies

“Heh, I’m not the type to judge others. Hellen and I risked our lives to save a murderer like Hori. So, it would be weird to be discriminatory towards you for trying to kill the president. And it’s not like the president is someone who is magically superior than other people. It’s all political propaganda bullshit. And I’m not the type to let the past linger on in my mind.” said Fushichin.

“Oh, that’s so sweet. You guys are so cute! Trying to save us, knowing that we were criminals. Hehe, if you hadn’t been so old, I might have even considered smashing you.” said Blaire with a grin.

“Wait…too old? Fushichin is just around 30 years old.” said Hori as she turned around awkwardly.

“Yeah…you’re the pedo. Thanks for reminding me that. Look, just because we’re saving you doesn’t mean that we’re a okay with you guys running around crazy and hurting a bunch of people. Just…promise me that you’ll help yourselves rather than waste your life trying to bring others down with you, okay?” said Fushichin with a smile and started the car.

The car moved steadily after the truck and they soon got out of the underground.

“I could just lie about being good. I could cry more crocodile tears and as soon as you give me freedom, I could try to kill the president again. Or all of your congressmen.” said Saran with a frown.

“Yeah…you probably could. I can’t say that I didn’t expect something like this. Seeing as how you’re all criminals and all. I hate to admit it, but our justice system isn’t completely broken, it is broken but only to an extent that people can tolerate it.” said Fushichin.

“Don’t tell me you’re regretting your decisions.” said Imi with scorn.

“No, I’m not. It’s just. It kinda pisses me off that you’re still talking about killing people. If killing people made you happy and enlightened then this world would be filled by rainbows and sunshine. Let me guess, you think you’re helping your country? By killing your political enemies? Sorry to say but…you don’t have any enemies. The politicians, the religions, the military ain’t your enemies. The only enemy that could may exist is the thought that you have enemies. It never lets you relax, it fills you with worry. So just…let it go. Why fight fights that you don’t understand? Why sacrifice yourself for other people’s cause? The only thing concerning you should be your own happiness. And your own happiness can only be realized by you and you alone.” said Fushichin.

There was silence for a while. Saran sighed and looked away into the window.

“But…you still came for us.” said Hori.

“Hmm, well, yeah. Why wouldn’t I?” said Fushichin with a giggle.

“I thought that everything was over. When I was pinned down and used by those horrible guards, I…I thought I should just give up and accept my fate. I was gonna get executed anyway. The commanders even publicly told the scientists and guards about how my life was worthless since I was a convict sentenced to death. All of them just…clapped their hands when they heard that. But you still saved us. Hellen got shot, you two might have even been killed if you were careless. So why? Do you really get that high on doing heroic things? Is risking your life for strangers, worth it?” asked Hori.

“Man…I definitely like Mew way more than you.” said Fushichin with a grin.

“H-hey, you bastard! You leave my sister out of your dark fantasies!” yelled Hori and threw a paper towards Fushichin from her pocket.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

“No, you dumbass. I didn’t say it that way. Why’d you gotta be so logical all the times. There are actions that I can’t explain. I just do what happens naturally, okay. Like a leaf blown in the wind. Like a river running down the stream. I can’t just leave Hellen alone to fight it all.” said Fushichin with a smirk.

“Oh, so it’s…like that between you two. I understand. Truthfully, I do want to desperately return to Mew too.” said Hori with a seductive smile.

“H-hey, it’s not like that between me and Hellen.” said Fushichin awkwardly as his eyes darted away.

“Hmm, so you’re bashful of your love. I see, someone is not being fully honest about his little cruuuush” said Hori with mischievous smile.

Fushichin smiled weakly and tried to pay more attention on the road.

“You are all good people, I can see that. And I can’t thank you enough. If I hadn’t been so weak and afraid, I could have helped you during the fight against the guards.” said Yulia as she looked weakly towards the sleeping baby in her arms.

“Hey, don’t sweat it. Not everyone has to know how to handle a gun and shoot others down.” said Fushichin.

“I wish I did. Maybe I wouldn’t have been captured by them. I am a reporter, I was aware of the mysterious deaths that happened in Luviana prison and was investigating it.” said Yulia.

“Wait…what? The deaths happened on September 25. You were one of those people who was declared to have committed suicide in Luviana prison, what are you talking about?” asked Fushichin.

“Oh, interesting. So that’s how they handled my kidnapping huh. Anyways, a year ago, six prisoners mysteriously got burnt to death inside the incinerator of the execution chamber in Luviana women's prison. The cops claimed that it was a suicide. I dug the case up and found it to be a kidnapping in actuality. I snooped around, asked a lot of people about intel and from a scientist I heard about this place. Just as I was about to publish the interview I recorded to the public, I was caught and they drugged me. Next thing, I was in prison and they sentenced me to death for attempting to spread state secrets” said Yulia with a sad tone.

“That means the fight isn’t over. We killed all the guards and escaped but there are people in the state, in congress who were in charge of this experiment. They will do everything in their power to make us silent.” said Hellen with a frown.

“Unfortunately, with or without them, we may have to remain silent on certain topics. Surely, they will pop a blood vessel if they know we’re trying to free inmates who are sentenced harshly.” said Fushichin.

“Speaking of, where are we going? I wanna visit a couple of my friends and not just go where you lead me to.” said Blaire with a bit of whining.

“That’s…actually a good question. I’ve just been mindlessly following the truck.” said Fushichin.

He turned on the radio and connected to Betty’s line.

“Hey, where are we going? We need a plan to evade the cameras before we exit the forest” said Fushichin.

“Agh, how the hell would I know. Naran is the one who is driving.” said Betty with anger.

“To my place. My brother got a giant mansion of sorts in Kimtaisher district. It won’t feed everyone but at least you fuckers all would fit. God, when the fuck did I try to become a super hero” said Naran with annoyance.

“Hey, what if we go directly to my home? There are barely any state cameras outside. And it’s spacious enough to fit everyone.” said Hori.

“Ahh, about that. Mew and Succi sold their mansion and got into an apartment. We could go there. They might have lots of cash at their disposal so it may be actually helpful if we want to escape this country.” said Hellen.

“Good, if you can manage that, great. Less mouths for us to feed.” said Naran.

“Yeah, it might be good if we split up. We should definitely keep contact with one another via radio transmitters and phone calls. But separate into different groups so that we aren’t suspicious.” said Hellen.

“Right. That makes sense.” said Betty.

“Also, we can’t keep referring to the freed captives as inmates or captives, especially on phone. Let’s refer to them as lady guests. That way if our phone line is being listened to, they won’t suspect that we’ve released convicts.” said Hellen.

“Good idea.” said Naran.

“We’ll separate from you guys and go to the apartment where Hori’s family is.” said Fushichin.

“Got it. Just don’t get caught on camera and cry, calling us for help.” said Naran with a taunt.
