Ch 36 – Secret of the cup

"What?" gasped Succi.

"Oh?" sounded Jude.

"Hey hey, hold on a sec, why would he do that?" grunted Mew.

"Yes, I know my son well, he is not the type of person to kill his own father." said Marian.

"The why isn't important. He is the only one who can do it. He was the only one who didn't have an alibi between 15-16 pm. Not to mention he was literally left next to the tea after Jude left." explained Fushichin.

"That's ridiculous. You can't just accuse me like that." yelled Succi.

"We just did." said Salim.

"But I don't have a motive." cried Succi.

"Yeah, why would he kill dad?" grunted Hori.

"Even if we don't know your motive. You're still the only person in the world who could have done it. Every other suspect had an alibi." said Galtomor fiercely.

"But but, you guys must have made a mistake. I would never kill our dear father. He was so kind, loving, hard working. He was a role model to me." said Succi.

"I dunno, maybe you wanted his insurance money or something." grumbled Fushichin.

"That's stupid. His father ensured Succi's safety more than any shitty insurance company." yelled Marian.

"We are already hella rich! Do you think Succi is some greedy bastard who can't stand to live in a mansion with servants and 3 cars?" cried Mew.

"We don't know the why. But in this case we'll have to pull out the why, forcefully from him." said Salim with a deadly frown.

"Bastards!" grunted Marian.

"I have no reason to kill, why would I ever? I wanted you to find my father's killer. You guys saved Hori, but please you have to reconsider this decision. You're wrong, terribly wrong that you're gonna make the culprit get away." yelled Succi.

"This is hard to watch." sad Hellen with sadness.

"Your whining ain't gonna save you." said Salim.

Salim pulled out his cuffs and approached Succi but Marian got in the way.

"I'll pay you anything. Just don't let my son go to a prison cell." yelled Marian.

"Yeah, you couldn't even find a motive for him to be the murderer. And he hasn't confessed yet." said Mew hastily.

"We will make him confess after we bring him to the detention center." said Salim.

"By threatening him? Beating him to death? That's heartless." grunted Marian.

You have to trust the judgement of the police. They are great detectives who know what they are doing." said Juniper with confidence.

"Umm, actually. There are some issues." said Galtomor as he scratched his head.

"What issues?" asked Juniper.

"We're basing this accusation solely on the theory that Tenma was poisoned by the tea and the antidote was in the spaghetti." said Galtomor.

You're still doubting my theory?" complained Hellen.

"I mean, it was bugging me all this time. How Joseph didn't die despite not eating the spaghetti. He only drank tea just like Tenma did. But he survived without the antidote in the spaghetti." said Galtomor.

"Hey, we answered that question previously, come on." moped Fushichin.

"No, I have another reason to object to the theory. There is one other issue concerning using the guest cups to contain the antidote. And that's the color and size of the antidote" said Galtomor with a frown.

The others looked at him with puzzled expression so Galtomor explained “The antidote is a yellow dust like substance. From what we have seen it's shard size is similar to a sugar."

"So?" asked Hellen as she raised her arm.

"What do you mean so? The guest cup is white. Wouldn't someone notice weird yellow substance being inside the cup when they pick it up and complain? Considering that we theorized every guest cup had an antidote inside, someone should have seen something." yelled Galtomor.

"I mean, they could have just not cared." said Fushichin carelessly.

"If that's the case, we can ask them personally. The antidote being inside the noodles makes sense because the noodle is yellow. There also could have been at least some water in the noodles or soup in case of the meat. But having the antidote in plain sight inside the cups would be noticeable." said Galtomor.

"That's still not a solid argument. What if there was a little water with the antidote inside the guest cups. It's not that outlandish for people to not care, right?" asked Fushichin.

"At least 1 person should have said something in their alibi. And some people definitely would have thrown out the water from the cup if that were the case." said Galtomor.

"W-wait, you think the antidote was in the guest cups?" asked Succi.

"Yes, what about it?" asked Fushichin.

"Umm, if I remember, Joseph didn't drink from the guest cups. Joseph was drinking from his own cup." said Succi.

"...WHAT?" yelled Hellen.

The detectives looked at Succi with bulging eyes.

"Yeah, his cup is white, very similar to our guest cups in terms of shape and color. But it has a carving of an anime character to it." said Succi.

"You serious?" asked Klancy.

"Yeah, I am. Let's ask Joseph about this." said Succi.

Joey and Juniper went outside and immediately brought Joseph into the dining hall.

"Herro, everyone! You guys look so deadly serious. What is up?" said Joseph happily.

"Joseph, I'm being framed for murder!" yelled Succi.

"Wha- Hey hey, you think my best pal killed his daddy? That's no good." said Joseph as he shook his head and continued “My buddy old is a wimp, he can't even kill a fly. He is a weak and pathetic pacifist.”

“Thanks buddy, hope your insult will help out." grumbled Succi.

The detectives explained the situation to Joseph.

"Did you or did you not drink tea from your own cup during dinner?" asked Klancy.

"Oh, I drank from my own cup." said Joseph.

"Really? Did it look that similar to the guest cups?" asked Hellen.

"Yeah, it did." said Joseph.

"Oh, I thought he was drinking from the guest cups. I didn't see the difference." said Yumiko.

"To be fair, I did pull out my jug pretty fast. If you know what I meant, hah." said Joseph playfully.

"I only noticed the details of his cup because I was sitting next to Joseph." said Succi.

"So that means the antidote wasn't in the guest cups?" asked Hellen.

"Then how the hell are you still alive?" asked Fushichin.

"Sheesh, I dunno. I die hard? Maybe I just had an inbuilt protection from poisons." said Joseph with a smirk.

"The only way to make him consume the antidote is through food or drink. If Joseph was attacked, he would have notified us." said Galtomor contemplatively as he rubbed his chin.

"And where else was he able to drink or eat the antidote?" asked Klancy.
