Hello everyone who have made it this far. If you’re reading this I would like to really congratulate you! This is the end of Volume 1. This webnovel is the adaptation of a visual novel also by the name of Lust for Truth and that visual novel also ends here. If you haven’t played the visual novel and only read the webnovel then I highly suggest you guys to try the visual novel out, the sprite work I did as well as the music choices and gameplay elevates this story to a higher level.
Now I’m going to answer an important question you may have here. Does this story have a continuation? And well…yes. I am currently working on it. This story at the time of writing isn’t popular at all. But I personally really enjoy the character dynamics, the world, the mysteries a lot. And I also think the visual novel was personally my favorite creation overall compared to my other projects so I am really looking forward to continuing that. But do note that I like to work on projects on a volume to volume base. What I mean is, I probably won’t post volume 2 of this novel if I think that it isn’t done or good enough yet.
And I think continuing the webnovel series and then adapting the volume 2 of this webnovel into a visual novel is probably for the best. Considering just how much time and effort a visual novel takes I think this is the more understandable approach going forward.
Before then I would like to answer some trivia questions or link you guys to certain websites.
For one, you guys should definitely check out my youtube channel in the name of Nakama the witnesser. I actually do post content related to Lust for Truth and my other webnovel series there.
You could also contact me on discord. My discord is Nakama the witnesser#0105
I also run a discord called Truth Debates gaming, you can find me there.
Now with that out of the way, let’s answer some questions that you may have.
Who are your favorite characters in this volume?
Tough question. I would really like to say “everyone is my fave” for the wholesomeness but there are some clear emotional biases that I just can’t seem to ignore. Plus it’s kind of fun to pick out people and talk about them and why they provide such a great contribution to the story.
From the detectives is…Fushichin. He is such a troll and a lot of the funny jokes come from him. Optional dialogue and bad choices of the visual novel showcase some very funny moments and Fushichin shines there a lot, I think. Then again, there is a lot of Klancy being a boomer / old jokes that I really enjoy too. I think Fushichin’s general personality is fun to write. While I do feel that a lot of my character’s inspirations come from my natural understanding and experiences of my own life in its entirety, it is true Fushichin’s character was largely inspired by Kokichi Ouma from Danganronpa V3 and the Joker from the Dark Knight. But unlike those people Fushichin is just usually stupidly straightforward and that’s the twist on them. And I think Fushichin is overall a better person than those two? He is just a very freedom of speech type of guy that talks a lot of shit but doesn’t really do anything to harm others.
A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Hellen is also one of my favorites too…she is so cute, lmao. Aside from me ogling her, I love her heroic personality. It’s clearly not fake as you can see in the finale and overall I think her character developed the most out of the characters in volume 1. And in regards to the visual novel I think her sprites are also my favorites. There is a sprite of her that looks like she is talking about a fish she caught once that was THIIIIIIIS BIG. The thumbs up sprite that is just awesome as hell. The tired sprite which just came out of a looney toons skit. Yeah, I really wish I could write more dialogue for her but unlike Fushichin she is just not the type of person to ramble a lot. Also, her personality was inspired by Nobara from Jujutsu Kaisen in quite a few ways.
From the non detective characters Marian, Mew, Hori, Jude are my tops I think.
Marian because she is such a flawed character but was the most interesting to write. You can tell she genuinely cares but she is also so angry, prejudiced and emotionally distraught that she makes a lot of rash decisions that hurt the people around her. It’s sad and I feel deep compassion for her and hope that she will better herself…probably in prison lmao. Also her lying twice and always getting into trouble is such a fun way to add complexity to the mystery. My recommendation for writing complex mysteries is to just make everyone involved a giant asshole and see what happens.
Mew because she is a boss girl. She has a lot of personality and sass to her. But I think her love and care for the people she cares about is extremely powerful. She was definitely one of the people who carried the finale of Vol 1.
Hori because her monologue at the end holds a lot of weight and truth to it. That and her murder plan was pretty sweet. But once again, she genuinely cares about Mew and protected her in the final moment and overall she is smart. Looking at Mew and Hori’s relationship it definitely feels like Hori is the head and Mew is the heart of that relationship.
Jude because he doesn’t give a shit about what anyone says and despite being the servant of this house he never really lost sight of himself and always did what he thought was right. I definitely like how he calls the bullshit of everyone around him, aka the cops. In the visual novel some of his shit eating grin that he throws at Salim is also priceless.
What is your favorite scene in this volume?
Umm, the finale! Everything else is fine. I just think the finale has such emotional power as well as interesting debates that cannot be outmatched. Really wish people would read up till this point. The visual novel of this story is decently hard with all the lie detection sections, debunking theories and presenting evidence, I hope I didn’t make the game too hard and gate kept people from the story cause this was one of my favorite scenes of all time from what I have wrote.
Klancy and Fushichin’s little argument when Marian was about to be taken away with Nile is also cool but I think that was just a mini version of what was going to happen at the finale. The discussion Mew and Marian had before that is also really cool too.
But like I said, the finale is awesome. From the blame shifting from Succi to Hori, to Galtomor saying Hori contradicted Mew’s alibi, the trick she used, Hellen saying she hates murderers at the start of the game but defending Hori in the finale, the debate afterwards, it’s a spicy meata bolla!
