Ch 53 – Detective of Lies

18:00 PM

Kyong’s team visited a faraway house in Grimian district at the outskirts of Aomori forest.

Kyong knocked on the door of the house. A middle-aged woman opened it. Kyong identified the woman as miss Huragway, Herald’s wife. Kyong showed his badge and following him the detectives Dimitri, Casey, Naran and Betty and the cops Hugo and Natasha entered the house.

A young boy and a girl were running around the living room. And Herald himself appeared to be sitting on the coach at the end. Looking at the cops who entered, he frowned.

“That’s a lot of people. What do you want?!” grunted the man.

“No need to be angry sir. We’re cops. Just here to ask you some questions, we would appreciate it if you cooperated with us.” said Kyong.

“Tch, what? Am I being suspected as some killer or something? And what am I to gain if I cooperated? You damn cops and detectives think you’re some tough shit, breaking into my house. Get the hell out!” yelled Herald with frown and menace.

“I’m afraid we can’t do that. You need to be a little patient with us. You don’t want your family to get involved with cases that are unrelated to them, do ya? But certainly you yourself have been tangled in something very big mister.” said Kyong with a snarky smile and cold eyes.

Herald was definitely creeped out by his words but he was quick to form a neutral expression.

“What do you want?”

“Mister Herald. Have you ever owned a gun?” asked Kyong.

“Yes, I did. Something wrong with that? If you want my registration, I can bring it.” said Herald.

“Good, bring it. Bring me all of your gun registration papers.” said Kyong tauntingly.

Herald went away and brought back 1 paper.

“I only have this shotgun license. The criminals around here are savages and your so called police are all lazy bums. A man has to rely on his own powers to survive, nothing weird about that right?” said Herald with a bossy tone.

“Yes. But you’re lying. This ain’t the only gun you used to own. Did you use to own a Glock?” asked Kyong.

“I…I. Why do I have to tell you that?” asked Herald.

“Hoho, a secretive boy over here. Don’t try to act all innocent. You have no idea how serious this is. You own a glock and the glock that you owned was used in a murder. The government has it registered on your name. So, tell me. Where are you hiding the damn glock? If you don’t answer then consider yourself imprisoned.” yelled Kyong.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

The girl in the room started crying cause of his tone, her mother quickly pulled her out of the room with his brother to another room.

Herald shook his head and said “Bullshit, you don’t have an arrest warrant.”

But Dimitri was quick to pull up a warrant from his pocket and hang it near Herald’s face only to pull it back a few seconds later.

“I don’t wanna waste time with you criminals. You used the gun for murder! Don’t try to act all goofy and ignorant. You’re coming with us!” said Kyong.

“Please, I’m sorry. I didn’t kill anyone but I did give my gun to another person. You gotta trust me!“ yelled Herald in desperation.

“Who?” asked Kyong.

“I don’t know his real name. But he is from that Mist Trader group. They buy guns from you and give you stacks of cash in return. No paperwork required. I’m sorry, I didn’t want to report this and was in a desperate need for money.” said Herald, tears appearing in his eyes.

“When did this happen?” asked Kyong.

“A-A year ago. I bought this shotgun a month ago, after my salaries have been doubled.” said Herald.

“Tch, you’re a silly bear aren’t ya. Hiding about this from the cops for so long. You need to tell us, the police, everything that is deemed important! Information is the most important weapon and you’re the asshole here for depriving us of that power! Criminals, like you, who stand in the way of the cops, will be crushed. Do you understand!” said Kyong with a devilish tone and hellish stare.

“S-Sorry. I understand.” said Herald, fear struck behind his eyes.

“Good. Good little boy. But it doesn’t matter how much of a good boy you are. You are going to be jailed. And will definitely get executed. Because you killed someone!” said Kyong with deadly eyes and a stone cold face.

“W-wha? I told you I didn’t!” yelled Herald.

“Oh silly. But you did, if we can’t find any other suspect than you, you are cooked. Cooked like the little chicken that you are and we’re gonna make a soup out of you. Someone has to take the fall for this case!” said Kyong as he grabbed ahold of Herald’s cheeks and violently shook them.

“Hey, what are you doing?! You asshole!” yelled a young woman who jumped into the room aggressively.

Kyong looked towards the woman and smiled.

“Ahh, you must be Myanda Huragway. Pleased to meet-” said Kyong but immediately the woman slapped him.

“Hey, you little-” yelled Dimitri, his hand went to his gun under his belt but Kyong waved his hand playfully.

“Miss Myanda. The truth stands above all else. Your father is a murderer.” said Kyong.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about. My father would never kill someone. Unprovoked at least.” said Myanda.

“Ahahaha. Yes, unprovoked. Maybe he was provoked. He may have a motive afterall, if you’re the one who is doubting him.” said Kyong with a sly smile.

Myanda looked towards the detectives with a frown.

“We have an arrest warrant lady. But if you don’t want your father to be imprisoned, we can have a discussion, privately.” said Kyong as he laid seductive eyes on Myanda from top to bottom.

Myanda bit her lips and said “Fine. If you want to talk privately then…sure.”

Myanda and Kyong went away. The two of them were gone for a while. Herald was clearly worried. There were faint sounds of a woman crying and moaning upstairs. Soon Kyong returned with a happy smile on his face.

“What did you do?! Where is my girl?” yelled Herald.

“Oh, she said she was dizzy and decided to go to her bedroom. But hey, on the bright side you’re not going to be in jail, mister. Your girl is very good at…negotiating. But you will have to cooperate with the police’s investigation in finding the real culprit. Someone has to take the blame for all this after all.” said Kyong with a sly smile.

The detectives dragged Herald, went into the car and drove off.
