Ch 49 – Order of Death

“Baelix are insecure by design. The voice recognition was installed at least, but that’s not enough to defend it completely. If you’re someone who is popular and your voice is available online, such as with the victim Layla, the culprit could simply get your voice, modify your voice to make it say something that they want, transform the data into a soundwave and send it to the Baelix.” said Hiu Ying.

“But if they turned it into a soundwave, wouldn’t Layla and everyone living here hear it and be on guard?” asked Fushichin.

“No. Humans can only hear sound waves between 20 to 20,000 Hz. If you transmit a sound wave that is outside of this range to the Baelix it will pick it up while you would hear nothing.” said Hui Ying.

“But the culprit needs to be in close vicinity to the Baelix in order to pull this off, right? Sound would get distorted.” asked Salim.

“Yeah, you’re right. But you can reach a bit far through vibrations along the walls.” said Hui Ying.

Hui Ying sighed and continued saying “Honestly, they were so naive. They gave the Baelix the ability to lock and unlock the door, turn electronic devices on and off including lighting. It’s ridiculous.”

“I have the logs of the commands Baelix has received here.” said Manish and began reporting.

”At 1:20 - went to wwweclipseassult and installed Dots.exe.

1:25 - was ordered to turn off the lights at all times.

1:26 - was ordered to unlock the lock of the front door.”

“Hmm, I see. I think that matches with the state of events” said Salim.

Hellen entered the room with a somber look.

“What happened to the girl?” asked Klancy.

“She got tired and felt sleepy. I let her lie on her bed. I don’t know how I feel about letting her sleep at a crime scene but…” said Hellen without finishing her sentence and sighed.

“Good to know.” said Fushichin.

Then his eyes lit up a bit and said “Hey, just an idea I had, since things are a bit confusing. I think it’s best that we try to order the actions the culprits took.” said Fushichin.

“You’re right. Who do you think died first?” asked Klancy.

“Possibly Francis. He was found dead on floor 1. His room is next to the hallway that leads upstairs.” said Fushichin.

“Not only that but he seemed so defenseless and unaware of the situation compared to the others. Klied seemed to have been shooting towards the culprit.” said Hellen.

“And looking at the scene in which Layla was found, Layla may have been trying to stop the attackers from getting in by blocking the door with the bookcase. Hardly unaware” said Klancy.

“And she is the one who called the police.” said Galtomor.

“Right.” said Fushichin.

“Does that mean everyone was alerted by the attackers and knew they had guns after Francis died? He had three bullet wounds so there had to have been three shots. Must have been really loud.” said Juniper.

“Not really. They could have had suppressors on their guns” said Fushichin.

“Hmm, but Ritam was not killed in his room but instead in the hallway. The attack happened at 1 am, likely when they were all sleeping. So Ritam most likely was alerted by the first attack.” said Hellen.

“Seriously, the attack happening at 1 am proves nothing. People can be night owls. Francis himself wasn’t found in his pajamas.” said Fushichin with a sulk.

“Yes. It’s not certain if they were completely alerted by the gun shots.” said Klancy.

“In any case, I think the next person to die was Ritam. But before he died he was flashbanged. He got shot to the top of his head likely while sitting down. Sitting down because of the pain of being flash banged makes sense.” said Hellen.

“And afterwards Klied opened fire towards the culprit who was likely in the hallway. There were bullet holes on the wall of the hallway. It wouldn’t make sense for Klied to open fire towards the hallway while Ritam was alive anyway.” said Fushichin.

“You should remember its culprits. Nina did mention that one guy was talking to another. There are definitely 2 or more attackers” said Galtomor.

“Right.” said Fushichin.

“The holes in the wall are from the revolver. You think Klied was the user of the revolver?” asked Juniper.

“Most definitely. He was found dead behind the bed in the bedroom at the right wing. Him shooting towards the culprits towards the hallway, running into his room, hiding behind the bed while shooting at the assailant at the other side of the door and dying makes sense the most. There were bullet holes in the wall opposite to the door to his room for proof.” said Fushichin.

“Right, while that was happening the others attacked Layla and her daughter.” said Salim.

“Yes. Layla or her and Claire put the bookcase in front of the door. But the culprits shot and broke in. The bullet hole on her back could have been made because the culprits shooting towards the door. The bookcase had bullet holes as well, one of the bullet pierced through and hit her back.” said Klancy.

“Or Layla could have been shot while down, but yours makes more sense” said Fushichin.

“Then the culprits barged in. Layla was shot in the head and her daughter Claire was strangled to death.” said Galtomor.

9:00 AM

Soon a car came to the mansion. From it emerged a man and woman.

Hellen and Galtomor saw the car come from the window and exited the mansion with Nina.

They approached the two people.

“Nina, are you alright?” asked the man as he quickly rushed to the detectives.

“She is fine. You should be proud of her, she gave valuable testimony to further the investigation. You’re miss Layla’s brother, right?” asked Hellen.

“Yes, Jacob Matilda. Nice to meet you” said the man.

The two people held Nina’s hand and the three of them entered the car and drove off.

The other four detectives looked at the car from outside the mansion as it drove away.

According to Nina the room with the Baelix was Layla’s room and the right wing room was Klied’s room. Ritam didn’t have his own room but he usually spent his time in Layla’s room when he visited. The room where Francis was found dead was his room.
