Interlude: Introduction

Interlude: Introduction

“Fuck, there isn’t a single person coming here!” I said, shouting in the middle of the room.

I have opened my new shop for a week and not a single customer bought anything! There were instances of customers entering the store, looking through the products yet no one purchased anything.

I always understood competition was going to be tough given the territory is Yabuki’s turf.

But it couldn’t be helped! The other piece of land was in a bad part of town, crime being prominent in those areas. Besides, I heard the Ballerini family has been doing some illegal activities down there with an accomplice.

The situation couldn’t be fucking worst. All in all, there’s nothing I can do but watch how I lose money.

No! Calm down! First of all, it’s only been a week, things can still be turned around. Second, if all goes to hell then I’ll reduce the expenses wasted on the slaves.

In addition, Isaac should be promoting my store at this very moment! I won’t let a minor step back ruin everything I worked so hard for.

Obtaining these slaves weren’t an easy feat, well, technically speaking it wasn’t. What I mean is most won’t sell for much, the cost of maintaining them outweighs the profits.

As such I had trouble finding suitable candidates, but worry not, at the end things went according to plan!

“Get over here, Keisuke!”

I impatiently tapped my foot onto the ground with my arms crossed as I waited for his arrival. Soon a wolf demi human showed up, he wore a simple butler uniform, his appearance being presentable.

There was no way I’m letting a random slave be near me. I paid quite the hefty price for this guy!

“Do you need anything, sir?” he said, slightly bowing.

“Prepare me some tea.”

“Very well.”

With that the demi human left, when his footsteps were far enough I sat near a chair.

Jingle.

“Huh…?”

We got a customer!

Oh, shit!

I frantically stood up and headed towards the main room. There stood a young man being greeted by the receptionist.

Damn, I was actually planning on firing you.

He wore light armor, and on his waist hung a sword. He looked quite young, around 16, perhaps?

The customer’s interest in the receptionist quickly diminished instead his eyes wandered around my store.

“Tch, say goodbye to your job…” I muttered.

Never mind I take back whatever I said previously, the receptionist is gone. She can’t do her job properly, no wonder nobody visits this store.

Unauthorized usage: this narrative is on Amazon without the author's consent. Report any sightings.

You’ve been driving customer’s away as you do nothing all day, robbing my money!

It’s all your fault!

Fuck you!

Anyways, the customer appearance is basically one of an adventurer, his reason here is most likely to purchase a slave to accompany him during dungeons.

Nice! I can work on this.

Wait, what is he doing?

The adventurer approached the receptionist and whispered something into her ear. The receptionist blushed her gaze lingering on him while he once again left.

Nah, I’m imagining things!

Well, as any good businessman, I have to greet the customer. I adjusted my clothes, and walked towards them.

“Ah! There you are, sir!” said the receptionist, heading in my direction.

“Here you go.”

She gave me an envelope which caused me to raise my eyebrows in confusion.

Since when did she have such a thing? If it was given by the adventurer then why didn’t I see it?

Did he purposely choose to do that? But then that means he was discreet about it, but why? Is there a need to hide it?

I don’t fucking get it.

I glanced over at the customer only to find myself making eye contact with him.

No…

He wasn’t staring at me…

He was staring at the receptionist…

I took the envelope, opened it, and read the contents of it.

“I see, so it’s from Isaac. All right, follow me.”

Hahaha, thanks, Isaac! You actually brought someone here! I started thinking you were joking when you said you’ll be helping me. I appreciate it!

I waved my hand at the receptionist signaling for her to go back, which she did. The adventurer's mouth moved yet I was too far away to understand the words.

Still, Isaac, why did you have to force me to give a shit ton of discounts? I know business isn’t going well but this is too much!

Luckily given by the customer’s age he probably doesn’t know which slave to buy. Nobody who with decent knowledge would visit a new store for their first slave.

I can take advantage of this to earn all my money I used. Unfortunately he doesn’t look too wealthy to me, there’s so much I can do with a broke customer.

Heh, I shouldn’t complain. After all, this is the first customer who will probably but something.

I led him to the room I was previously in, two cup of tea were set on the table. Keisuke was standing near the door, I almost hit him with the door.

“Have a seat.”

“…”

The adventurer sat down, observing his surroundings. His posture was upright as he gently picked the tea cup, and drank the tea.

“I assume you know the situation?” said the adventurer.

“Yes, the letter gave all the information very well.”

“Care to guide me to the products?” he said, sipping the tea.

“Right to the point which I like, I’ll call the receptionist to explain the basic information about the slaves.”

Time to leave the both of them alone, I hope they don’t kill each other. I went towards the receptionist and pointed towards the door, she nodded, following me.

When I got back, the customer hung his head low, his expression invisible. Keisuke still stood in the same place with his apathetic face.

Now what is he doing?

He proceeded to move his head upwards. He stood up, cracking his knuckles for some reason.

“Follow me.”

“…”

Let’s show him the collection of slaves I amassed!
