Like I was saying originally, the advanced technique isn’t to be confused with normal enchantment of the body. Normal enhancement is the most basic defense against any type of attacks, but it offers limited protection against certain types of attacks.
It’s pretty much a matter of who has the most concentrated mana in a certain body part. The advanced technique is an easy example of a way to bypass the protection.
So, how does this play into finding dungeons? Well, you see, dungeons emitted faint yet frequent…hmm, how do I say this?
I guess the closest word is radiation, instead of electromagnetic waves or moving subatomic particles, or the energy transmitted by radiation, such as heat, light, electricity, it can also be applied to mana.
That’s where enchanting the eyes come into. As you know, electromagnetic radiation is invisible to the human eye, kind of, electromagnetic waves is actually visible to the human eye but we are able to only see a few of all the wavelengths, which is why we can see (visible) light, this can sort of be compared with mana.
You can still see spells like a fireball, a rock wall, spells that take physical form, those can be seen by the naked eye. One the other hand, curses, buffs and debuffs are invisible unless you enhance your eyes with mana.
All in all, this is an extremely simplified explanation of the topic. I’m just trying to give a general overview of the subject so people understand the process.
Simply put, you need to enhance your eyes to discover the traces of mana being emitted from the dungeon. It’s easier to find them when you have experience like most things in this word.
That all could’ve been explained in an easier way, I suck at teaching people…
Anyways, this is what Arakawa is doing. By scouting the area for possible dungeons, she’s leaving her body vulnerable. To prevent anything dangerous from happening, I walked beside her since I had a shield.
Leon strolled behind me, nodding when I turned my head back. I poured mana into my eyes, and began scanning the area. However at that exact moment Arakawa gazed at me in pure disbelief.
“Are you serious?” she muttered.
“What are you doing, Chaim?” Arakawa asked me, a glare being notable for a second.
“I sense the presence of a herd of monsters near the area. I’m trying to check if there’s a way to avoid contact,” I replied with a straight face.
She must’ve thought that I was searching for a dungeon when I clearly denied my ability to do so. It’s definitely peculiar that I suddenly started searching for the dungeon.
“Ah, I’m surprised you noticed it. I never took you for the sensory type,” she gasped, a look of admiration sent my way.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
The admiration is probably because she’s the same. Since she’s a bow user, she definitely is an expert in the field of sensory. Perhaps she’s surprised since I’m more of a melee type.
Truthfully speaking, I was actually searching for the nearest dungeon. Look, I’m not trying to waste all this time. Plus, I wanted to make sure she was on the correct path.
After all, the herd of monsters are far away. Even if one of us shouted they still wouldn’t notice us. Then why did I bring it up, well, I needed an excuse.
“I’m still mediocre at it, I simply noticed them by the state of the area,” I said.
“Oh? Were you an Adventurer before!?”
Rick suddenly appeared behind me, patting me on the back as he expressed his shock. From the corner of my eye, Leon's place was changed with Rick’s previous spot.
“Yeah, I didn’t think about mentioning it as it’s not that big of a deal.”
You know how I mentioned working or rather I stopped working? Yeah, I was referring to being an adventurer. I had to make some quick cash to support my family during difficult times.
Now that I’m enrolled in this academy I have retired from such activity. I’m choosing to focus on my future. So you could say I'm rusty when it comes to being an adventurer.
“What are you saying man? That’s hella cool!” he exclaimed.
“Is that so?”
“Yeah! My older sister is also an adventurer, I’ve always wanted to be like her,” he said, a big grin on his face.
He must be proud of his sister.
That’s nice.
“Found it,” said Arakawa.
She crouched, and began poking the ground with an arrow. Arakawa drew a circle with the arrow, standing back up.
“Here’s the dungeon. Unfortunately it looks like we’ll need someone to unlock it since I can’t,” she said, a bit disappointed.
“Don’t worry! I’m quite adept in this,” Rick said.
He approached the circle, raising his staff. He muttered some words to himself when he suddenly stabbed the circle in the middle with his staff. The mana stone on his staff glowed, blinding us for a second.
When I poured mana into my eyes, a smoke-like substance flew out of the ground specifically where the circle was located. The smoke increased encircling the staff. Slowly a purple line appeared in the middle of the air, it immediately opened wide.
A purple portal stood in front of us.
“There we go!” he huffed.
Rick wiped the nonexistent sweat from his forehead. I didn’t doubt it was difficult, but I don’t think it warrants wiping sweat that isn’t even there.
“Is that the entrance to the dungeon…?” Cynthia asked, clutching her weapon.
“Yes, although it appears to be a higher difficulty compared to what is seen in this forest,” Arakawa replied, touching her chin.
“Are we going to be fine?” Rona inquired, clear panic visible on her face.
“We should be,” commented Leon.
Worrying about our safety is pretty useless as we’re heading in there anyways. Like Arakawa said, although it’s a higher difficulty compared to the other dungeons in the area, meaning we should be fine.
