Chapter 70: Single Target

I had my sword sheathed as we wandered the location. My hand held the wrist of my other arm which was left as a open palm.

Contrary to last time, torches were already lit, as such there was no need to start a light source. Due to this, we had an easier time navigating the area.

When we found ourselves at the door leading to the boss, I carefully placed the bag onto a hidden corner. I slightly moved it since it was way too visible, opting for another corner.

I wouldn’t want it to get in the way during the fight. Extra weight when fighting sounds like a death wish in a dungeon. The difference of something as seemingly insignificant as a millisecond is taken into consideration in dungeons.

Once ready, we went inside the newfound place. I still had my hands free since I haven’t decided whether I should start with a spell or with the sword.

Usually it’s better to use both hands when using spells since you have more room to control the mana, if you have a staff or wand then ignore my previous comment.

The room was no different from the previous one except for the countless circles drawn inside circles on the ground. The complicated circles were more akin to the substituted for incantations.

As much as I’m willing to sit here for hours to explain the concept, there’s more important matters to attend to.

More specifically the humanoid figure gazing. downwards, the face being obstructed by the robe. Nothing could be gathered since the robe covered all the body proportions that might indicate a certain gender.

One thing was for sure, the final boss had to be the humanoid figure. It was the only one to have such a resemblance to an actual human being.

The sound of our footsteps must’ve alerted it as it slowly moved its head up, revealing a face devoid of flesh, or anything for that matter.

An undead.

This explains the circles on the ground plus the cloak. Well, clearly that it has been standing in the middle of it, it should’ve been obvious yet I didn’t want to come to the wrong conclusions.

“A group of kids, huh?” said the undead, disinterestedly moving its skeleton body.

It's underestimating us which is good, this way we can catch it off guard. This will turn to our favor yet I know it won’t be this easy.

Undead can speak yet most don’t chose to, whether it means it can’t or it doesn’t want to I don’t know, but what I do is the undead probably has a reason.

Is it trying to provoke us?

Hm.

Well, no use getting to concentrate on a single though, after all we’re going to fight it.

I swiftly raised my hand, shooting a wind slash at it. Wasting no time, I unsheath my sword and got into my normal battle stance. The slash connected as smoke began spreading over the area.

However, the slash should’ve cut him in half, not whatever happened here. There must be some sort of barrier protecting it.

My eyes scanned the area, anticipating a form of retaliation. The smoke had obscured my vision yet the general area was still visible to the naked eye.

I was proven correct since the undead appeared unscathed.

Immediately I unsheath my sword for the posible counter attack. I carefully moved closer to the undead.

It moved its gaze at my direction, all of a sudden launching itself at me. I blocked the dagger hidden in the undead’s cloak.

From the corner of my eye, countless skeletons appeared from the ground. The horde went in the direction of the group, leaving me alone.

“It seems like someone is severely overestimating their ability, I guess that’s why you’re dead,” I said, taunting the undead.

“Don’t you think your provocation works on me, boy. You’re the one who should learn his place.”

It continued striking me with the dagger, I blocked the incoming strikes with my sword. None of the attacks had come close to me, this continued until it took another dagger.

The sudden charge took me by surprise, I barely had enough time to react as such the undead managed to make a small cut on my arm, the rest being misdirected.

I took a step back, and stretched my arm. A ball of fire was shot at the monster. Smoke caused by the explosion wenI gripped my sword, and waited for the undead.

As expected a dagger appeared at the very corner of my view. I swung my sword in that direction only to pierce the air. The undead was nowhere to be seen.

“Tch—“

I instantly forced my body to turn in the opposite direction. A dagger was thrusted towards my abdominal area. My sword was sent flying by the force of the impact.

The next attack would definitely pierce my stomach as such without hesitation I placed my arm at the center of the attack. The undead appeared out of the smoke as it pushed its dagger through my arm.

The undead had no expression yet I knew if it was able to show facial expressions, it would definitely be a gleeful one.

“—!”

“You weren’t expecting it, huh?”

A dagger was stabbed at the undead’s neck, The same very dagger made for storing and preserving monsters' corpses.

The gemstone light flicked, going bright and then dim and back bright. The response meant only one thing.

I took out the dagger and kicked the undead while with my free hand I gripped its forearm. Even though my arm burned I still forced myself to move.

The undead went flying towards a wall, going right through it. I held its whole forearm, it dangled as it soon disintegrated.

I quickly went to pick up my sword, on my way there I observed the current scene. The group was occupied by the skeletons, each skeleton wore enchanted armor and weapons.

So this is why they’re struggling or at the very least taking quite the time to destroy them. This means the undead’s area of expertise is magic.

While it appears obvious, undead monsters are well versed in different fields depending on many unknown circumstances.
