Chapter 36: Opposition

Chapter 36: Opposition

Using Daisuke’s shout as a signal, I went towards one of the minion’s who let his guard significantly down. It was a stupid idea since my uppercut made contact with his stomach.

Instinctively his upper body went downwards, unfortunately failing at protecting himself from the punch. I placed my left hand on the back of his head, holding him by his hair. I yanked his hair so he would be standing. With my unoccupied hand I swiftly swung my elbow straight at his face instead of a punch.

Before my attack could connect, a force struck me on the side of my stomach. Due to the sudden, unexpected force, my body was flung away. Enhancing my hand, I dug my nails into the ground, creating a trail of dirt.

I looked upwards, seeing the student who attacked me. He no longer paid attention to me as he was busy with another problem. I watched Mitsugi dash at him and started engaging in hand to hand combat.

Soon the other student recovered and took advantage of the situation. He was about to charge at Mitsugi when I shot a simple fire ball. He immediately dodged, cursing. Since there was distance between me and the group fighting, I took the chance to utilize a more advanced spell.

I raised my hand up, charging a spell. Fire was shot up in the air. To stall the student further, I used a simple wind spell to cut his path to Mitsugi. I then sprinted at my opponent, taking his option away. He had no other option, but to fight me.

All of a sudden, tiny barrages of fire bolts fell everywhere. A fire bolt being a fireball, but each changing in destructive firepower. My opponent for some reason didn’t protect himself or even bother taking the attack seriously, instead placing his hand on the ground, a shadow-like figure of a hand appeared where I was standing.

It clutched my leg with a strong force. As much as I struggled, I couldn’t get out of its grip. Even though I quickly abandoned that way of escaping, I still plunged my hand on the same ground that had dirt dug out.

The rain of fire was falling down in fast succession. For some reason, none fell in our location. Since I had no time to ponder why, I immediately took action to escape my predicament.

A light glowed at the hole made by my hand. At first sight, it made no difference, though if one looked more into it, the shadow-like hands were no longer present. I was lucky to escape before my opponent had the opportunity to follow the attack with another.

I—

“—!”

A sudden blunt force hit the back of my head. Agony filled the certain place where I was struck. I stumbled to the ground, a fire bolt falling right behind me, the smoke distancing me from them. I staggered, moving my hand around as I tried to find somewhere to support myself.

“Tch, he’s more resilient than I originally thought…”

My vision becoming blurry, I had no idea where I was. More pain appeared when I felt someone’s leg kick me on the face. I fell to the ground, my dizziness multiplying.

My hand felt like it was being crushed, I was the silhouette of someone’s foot stomping my hand. It hurt a lot as I desperately attempted to move my hand to no avail. Even when enhancing my hand, the pain wasn’t subsiding.

Slowly my vision regained as the throbbing pain of my head became more bearable. I finally saw who was stomping my hand. My original opponent was nowhere to be seen, instead the leader being in front. He wore a sadistic smile as he enjoyed my pain.

Out of nowhere, a swift hand swung at the leader. The leader dodged, forcing his foot off my hand. The leader’s attention to the one who threw the punch.

A male student with a pompadour could be seen. His face filled with tiny bruises, a tiny scratch on his lip where a drop of blood ran down his mouth.

The firebolts are no longer falling from the sky, meaning my spell was either canceled or countered by another. Also, it seems like Raymond healed me as there was no way I could recover this fast.

But more importantly, Mitsugi was attacking the leader of the students. Unfortunately, I caught a glimpse of a student going near Mitsugi. I put all of my strength into my working hand, and dashed at the student.

I tackled him onto the ground to prevent the ambush on Mitsugi. Struggling, the student moved around to get me off. In response, I head butted him, hurting myself in the process.

The student in front of me no longer moved since with that attack I knocked him unconscious. It was easier than expected, most likely since he already sustained more damage than me.

My eyes darted around to find who else to support. All I could see was the female student already on the ground with Daisuke and Raymond not being any better. Both of them were on the ground, clutching the body parts that caused them pain.

Looks like Raymond healed me with his last bit of mana he had. How ironic, to him fighting me, to him healing me.

For the opposing group, they had four of their members still conscious, not including the one I just beat. Out of the five originally, four of them were still awake.

Mitsugi was the only one who was still fighting condition. He kicked the leader, who took the chance to punch Mitsugi on the cheek. The three who just beat Raymond, Daisuke, and the female student made their way towards Mitsugi.

I rushed at the students approaching Mitsugi, going towards the one who had the most injuries. I struck him right at the back of the head with my fist. The others quickly took notice as one student kicked me in my stomach. I responded by clobbering the same student I first hit on the back. I stumbled back, quickly regaining my footing.

Three against one, huh.

Quite the bad odds I have here.
