The uncomfortable silence made Mitsugi awkwardly fake a cough. The two stared at him, but didn’t say anything else. I, on the other hand, bit my nail. I refrained from breaking it due to obvious reasons.
“Heh. Enough about our situation. You guys must be pretty strong as you won against us. I’m assuming you two are from Class 1-A, right?” The second student decided to break the silence, changing the topic.
“No, we’re both in Class 1-B,” Mitsugi replied.
Their eyes widened a bit before they nodded to themselves. “Then you’re at least part of the students who get more attention, right?” The first student asked for confirmation.
Before I could respond, Mitsugi pointed to himself. “Of course not!” he exclaimed as if proud.
“Uh…”
That was my same reaction to his attitude. I, too, would be weirded out by someone being proud of their low standing. But I digress, to each with their own.
“I-I can’t b-believe it… Are the new batch of first years this strong?” Student one muttered.
“I don’t think that’s the correct conclusion,” I said, bringing the attention towards me.
I raised my hand as if to explain something important. “Truthfully speaking, the only reason we won was due to the advantages we had. In the first place, none of us used any magic, aside from the ray of light you shot at me. If magic was included, we would’ve easily lost.”
“Taetel is right,” said Mitsugi. “There was no mana unused to enhance ourselves in any way possible. The only thing we got out of this was that our bodies are more trained than yours,” he shrugged.
Student one, but bit lip in frustration while student two just sighed. I stared at Mitsugi in disbelief. Instead of getting rid of the lingering tension, he just had to make things worse. I guess some people can’t read the room.
It’s like me taking this opportunity to insult a student one about his masculinity.
Not appropriate.
“Can I know your names? I would like to have the name of a fellow student at this academy,” I said, briefly smiling.
“I’m Mitsugi Miki and he’s Taetel Chaim,” Mitsugi said, introducing the both of us.
“Raymond Barnett, Class 2-D,” said student one or now Raymond.
…
“I’m in Class E. My name is Daisuke Ogawa. Nice to meet you,” said the second student, for some reason acting as if it was our first time meeting.
…
“Oh, both of you are second years?” Mitsugi inquired.

…
“Yep,” said Raymond.
As we finished talking, we heard footsteps nearing our location. We shut our mouths, and slowly laid on the ground to be away from their vision in case someone is near the window. Though it was us just being very careful.
The four of us heard voices outside the door. Risking ourselves, we got closer to hear the conversation. Mitsugi almost hit the wall when turning about, which would’ve been quite unfortunate.
“So? Did you find the students who caused the ruckus? Destroying school property isn’t a small deal.” A female voice sternly said.
“Uh, I’m sorry, but they seem to have gotten away. The only information we have was that the total number of perpetrators are four. Other than that they’re whereabouts are unknown.” A male voice replied.
“Search the rest of the building. I’ll check this area so go ahead without me.”
“Yes, ma’am!”
With that, footsteps indicated that the male student left the current area. This meant that the female student on the other side of the door would probably open the door.
Good thing that’s loc—
Ah shit.
I forgot to lock the door when I entered! I only closed it and nothing else. How did I forget such a simple thing! Ah, what am I supposed to do? We’ll be caught sooner than later!
We stared at each other, coming to the same conclusion. The realization of the situation had hit us. Our eyes gazed at a specific part of the room. A certain place where we could escape. We swiftly, but quickly went towards the windows.
All of us didn’t care anymore and caused a wind spell to break the window. The loud noise was bound to gather attention. As such, we quickly jumped out the window and ran away from the scene.
Well, that was the plan. For some unknown reason the person left the area without checking any of the doors. Due to this shocking action, we waited a full ten minutes until we opened the door and looked around. Sure enough no one was nearby.
“What was that…?” Mitsugi whispered.
“Wha—L…looks like we got lucky,” said Raymond, heading out the room.
Once we made sure he wasn’t going to get attacked suddenly, the rest of us left the room. We were pretty much bewildered by the chain of events.
Still not believing the current events, I looked around my surroundings just to be sure. Not finding anything, I was once again reminded of the amount of luck we had. The group of four, including me, went around the area.
Suddenly Mitsugi stopped and turned towards us. A strange smile on his face. I immediately had a bad feeling about this situation. Yet I let Mitsugi speak his mind because there was no way I could prevent him from doing so.
“Hm? Why did you stop Miki?” Daisuke asked.
“You know…we still have some time,” he said, being cryptic for no good reason.
“What are you trying to say?” A confused Raymond question, a bit on guard.
“Fine…Hmmm…How do I say this…” he murmured as he paced around the hallways.
He finally stopped. The very same smile present on his face.
“How about we fight more students?”
“Ah, you gotta be kidding me…” said someone.
“Are you seriously saying that?” Daisuke exclaimed.
“Yeah! It’s time for me to prove my strength to the world,” he said, making a fist and deeply gazing at it like a hawk.
“So, let’s find students to beat up,” he said in an unusually upbeat tone.
Damn.
