Chapter 58: Joke

Chapter 58: Joke

“Anyways!” said Cynthia with a fake cough. “Why didn’t you inform me of this? You know how I wanted to feed them?”

Cynthia attempted to pat a spider on the head only to get bitten by the spider. She didn’t respond angrily instead she merely frowned, a bit saddened.

I watched this in confusion. For some reason in a single month, Cynthia had gotten attached to these spiders. I couldn’t pinpoint the exact reason so I haven’t commented about it. I didn’t want to express ignorance because of a lack of understanding.

When I mention someone’s behavior to them, I only do so when I have a deep understanding otherwise I come off as ignorant. I hate doing such things because it doesn’t help anyone.

Talking about someone’s behavior when you don’t understand anything is the most egotistical, narcissistic, and self centered you can do.

Yet…we all do that, don’t we?

We’re all hypocrites no matter how much we avoid it. I’m no expectations, I may dislike something and show it however I’m also likely to have done those same actions.

Heh, well, what am I trying to say with all this?

Nothing much.

Just…

No matter how much I contradict myself, I’m still trying to fix it.

Even if I fail, at least I tried.

“It was more of a quick trip though. I didn’t want to bring much attention to them,” I said.

“You do have a point,” said Cynthia, nodding.

“So? What are you doing here all alone?” I asked as I let a spider rest on my palm.

She stared at me with an irritated expression. Cynthia raised her hand yet put it back down as it refraining from touching the spiders. She coughed to seem more calm.

“I should be one asking you that? I remember you confronted the group of adventurers, and since we’ve waited without you ever appearing Leon went to find you,” she said.

Okay, things add up, but then why is she here alone? Leon must’ve explained the situation so there wasn’t a reason to search for me. Plus it’s only Cynthia which makes it even more perplexing.

“You still haven’t answered my question, why are you here?” I asked once again.

“Let me finish!” she huffed, arms crossed. “Like I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, since I Leon was gone I decided it was a good time to relieve myself—“

“In what sense?”

“…”

“Continue.”

It appears she didn’t like my witty comment as she glared at me. I shouldn’t have interrupted her twice, but you know what they say the “third time's the charm.”

You might be reading a pirated copy. Look for the official release to support the author.

“Okay, I was relieving myself then I heard something and when I went to check it out, it turned to be you—“

“You came here without cleaning your hands?” I asked, hovering my hand over my mouth in fake disgust.

“Of course, I did! Why do you keep interrupting me? Are you doing it on purpose?”

Although it may seem like she was fuming from anger, she simply glared at me, and spoke in a loud voice which by her standard was barely above a normal speaking tone.

You know how she ignored my comment. Well, I’m going to take it personally. I won’t let that level of disrespect go unnoticed.

In all seriousness, I wanted to see her emotional level, whether she was capable of controlling her emotions. I’m simply curious since I want to test the limits. Plus I want to get into her head, like I said, I don’t want to assume and blurt out anything incorrect.

“Calm down, why are you so upset? Is it because you’re on your period, is it really that time of day? Wait, maybe it is since this is the first day of a new month…” I said as if I was genuinely thinking about it.

Crack.

The sound of something breaking caught my attention. My eyes wandered, attempting to find the cause. It was Cynthia, she gripped an unrefined mana stone so hard she broke it into pieces.

While it was impressive since she isn’t too strong even when enhancing her body, I didn’t care about that. More importantly, how did she get ahold of an unrefined mana stone?

Ah, I remember. I gave her one because she wanted to feed the spiders when I was busy. Cynthia got excited whenever she could take care of them as if she was their mother.

I mean, she does have child bearing hips.

Also got that slim waist.

Which makes a good combo, almost wants me to spread my seed inside her—

Hahaha, I got you didn’t I?

My test doesn't only apply to the people around me, but also to you.

Ha, what am I even saying.

Anyways, Cynthia although looked to have a neutral expression, I could very well see how much she refrained from attacking me because of my inappropriate comment.

This was enough for me, so I won’t make another comment like that. I had everything I wanted to when I opted to utter the words which may have definitely, yeah definitely caused my death depending on the girl.

“W-what did you say? Care to repeat yourself?” said Cynthia.

“I said we should get going as it would be suspicious if we stay any longer. Plus urinating doesn’t take much time,” I said.

As much as I wanted to make another comment, I refrain from doing so as I would gain nothing out of it. I grabbed the spiders, and put them back to their tiny house.

I proceeded to walk towards the cave, I spoke my last words to her, “Well, I’m going first.”

With that I left the area, my destination being a bit far. While I walked, I encountered Leon. He was leaning against the wall, head down. Once he saw me, he lifted his head, and started accompanying me.

“I thought you wanted to explain the situation to the group?” I asked.

“That was my plan originally, however when I peeked my head inside, there were only three people, the blue-haired girl was missing. As such I deemed it unnecessary to reveal myself until you were with me,” said Leon.

I don’t blame him, the only reason he was supposed to be there was to explain the situation since I was gone feeding the spiders. Now that I’ve met with Cynthia, I used too much of my time to simply excuse my absence, Leon’s explanation wasn’t going to work.

So in the end, it was better for him to stay. Had I known Cynthia was nowhere near the cave, I would’ve just made Leon stay with me.

I had no problems showing him the monsters I have been raising for the past month. I don’t think Leon will be surprised, he might even help me raise them.

Leon has definitely seen me do things similar to this. At worst, he’ll be weirded out so it’s a low risk high reward. But that’s only if I show him the spiders.

Right now I have no intention as I mainly want to keep the thing a secret, Cynthia knowing because she mentioned her family raised monsters which made me want to know about her family. This is why I revealed the spiders as I needed someone to help me obtain unrefined mana stones.
