I leisurely went towards an alleyway leading to my house. The path was a bit rough, making me squeeze inside some gaps in the walls. While walking through the holes of abandoned buildings, which were a lot since many were abandoned projects, I finally entered the last building.
Since it was in the middle of the night, the only sounds were those of my own footsteps. I stepped over a rock accidentally, crushing it. I grumbled, I disliked how I made noise. While I doubt it would alert anyone, it was better being safe than sorry.
Crack.
“You gotta be kidding me,” I sighed.
A chill went up my spine as I turned around. The noise definitely wasn’t made by me, rather it appeared I woke something from its slumber. I was on guard, scanning my surroundings for any potential attacks. I quietly moved away from the area I was currently in. In an attempt to leave the building, I headed straight for the door.
Though if it was only that easy…
I—
“There!” I shouted, throwing a light spell.
I illuminated the area, attempting to catch a glimpse of the person who made a noise. Unfortunately, I failed to do so since I revealed my location the very moment I used the spell.
Immediately my body reacted, raising my arm. A blow connected against my arm, sending my flying straight through the wall, breaking it. I grunted, staring at my right arm. It shook, trembling as a long red line ran through my arm. Crimson liquid dripped, hotness present on my arm. The pain in my arm caused me to stop for a second.
That was a mistake.
A flapping sound could be heard right behind me. My eyes widened realizing the severity of the situation. I ducked, throwing myself into the ground and in the process scraping my already bleeding arm. The sharp pain made me grit my teeth. The building protecting me was torn as it was mere paper.
Is this even supposed to be possible? I don’t remember them ever coming to this country. Though why is it so aggressive? It will be no use in hiding, I need to come up with an escape route. My brain calculated the best possible counter attacks.
I once again utilized the same light spell at the moment I caught a glimpse of them. A pair of wings. I was correct on my assumption.
I ran through the building, jumping through a window, enchanting myself so a sharp glass wouldn't get stuck in my body. As expected the predator followed me, I threw a wind spell, slicing the wall in half. It seems to be effective as I saw blood spurt before the figure disappeared.

Unexpectedly a fire spell was fired at me out of nowhere. In an attempt to reduce damages, I held my right arm up, creating a tiny ice barrier. The two spells collided, agony surrounded my right arm as it got burned.
“Ghk!”
Giving me no time to rest another attack made way, the strike connected straight to my face. Not wasting time I used my healthy left arm, managing to grab their wings. Twisting my body, I forcefully threw them onto the ground. They groaned in pain yet they reacted, biting my left hand.
They’re sharp teeth sunk into my hand, I instantly removed my hand. Shaking my hand, I threw a punch at them, aiming for the solar plexus. The hit connected, however due to my hand hurting whenever I put strength on it, the effects weren’t as effective as I hoped it to be.
A blurry attack appeared right at my face, barely dodging my face getting cut by what seemed to be nails. My cheek dripped with blood. Clicking my tongue, I jumped back making some distance between us. They had other thoughts as they charged at me, I summoned a rock wall, blocking them.
However, that also didn’t work as the wall crumbled as fast as it appeared. I got tackled, and I drove my elbow into their back as I got pinned to the ground. I struggled, kicking them. Pushing them off me, I stomped on their only advantage—their wings.
As such when they dodged, appearing to my side, I knew I messed up. They had expected that, swinging straight at my ribs. I braced myself, enchanting my body. The hit connect, I swear I heard a cracking sound, but I was far too occupied to fully check.
In a futile attempt to escape, water gushed out of my hand, wetting their wings. Trying to knee them on their face, I thrusted my leg upwards. They jumped back, licking their hands.
What?
The person with wings eagerly licked their hands, saliva covering their palms.
Huh…?
A—
I didn’t let this chance go, I charged a fire spell. I let it drop in the middle of the distance between the two of us. The fire ball connected with the ground, exploding flinging rubble all around me. A smoke-like substance formed, I took this opportunity to bolt away from this place.
I heavily breathed, making my way out of this place. In a hurry I couldn’t afford to stop, so when my right arm collided with a wall, all I could do was clench my teeth, trying my best to make any noise.
I ran, swiftly ending in another abandoned building. This one free of destruction. I started limping as I moved. Given no other choice, I found a hiding spot and sat, leaning on the wall. I opened my mouth, gasping for air like a fish out of water. I no longer put any pressure on any of my limbs. I quickly got my breathing on a normal level, I forced myself less air to not get spotted.
The cold didn’t affect me as my body burned, the pulse felt on my body. It throbbed as if something wanted to escape. The torment robbed me of my energy as the adrenaline seemingly disappeared. My body was shutting off.
Wings flapping.
In a switch my body was on alert.
There is no escaping, I’ll have to confront them.
