After the whole mess got cleaned up, they covered the wood with a piece of cloth. The people around the area just sat quietly, the lively atmosphere was nowhere to be seen. One particular noble scratched his head, eyes darting around the room.
“Uh…” he whispered, clutching his stomach now.
“Are you okay?” A fellow noble asked, casting healing magic.
“Haah. Thank you! I’m not one who can endure these type of things. I’m far too much of a coward, y’know?” he said, wryly smiling.
“I don’t think it’s a matter of that. I feel that all of us in some shape or form have been desensitized to these things, it’s quite unfortunate.” The other noble said, sighing, placing his hand on his head.
“Yeah, maybe you’re right. It’s horrible how most are used to this.”
At another table, the student kicked one of the unoccupied chairs. He held a sour expression, ready to lash out at anyone. He attempted to calm down by sitting back down and tapping his foot on the ground repeatedly in a rhythm.
“Tch, this is why I hate this. He just has to ruin the mood. You would think that worsening the atmosphere of the area was the last thing on their mind. We are the customers they have to appeal to…Like how are we supposed to bid normally after this?” The student said, hitting the table.
“I know you’re angry about it, I am as well, but I don’t recommend rashly acting like that. We can’t openly show our distaste towards them, only disagreement. Even then, we have the chance of doing more harm than good.” The noble sitting next to him commented, waving his hand.
“I’m fully aware of my rash attitude. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been alive for so long. I just hate their approach. It doesn’t make much logical sense.”
“I agree, that’s my problem with this whole situation. What do they gain out of this?”
Clearly the sales would drop after this display, it happened each of the years the ambushes occurred. There was not a single reasonable explanation for them willing to take a loss.
The group of five men were having a similar conversation.
“It seems like he placed his selfish desires over the public opinion. I don’t know if I should praise or condemn him.” The bird masked man commented.
“Not like anyone could blame him, all of us here would place our own desires over his. In fact, most of us disagree with this stunt he pulled.”
“Splendid,” said an unknown person.
A man in his forties walked towards the butler, clapping his hands. He smiled, gently placing his hand onto the old man’s shoulder.
“A wonderful display as always.”
“I’m glad it suits your taste.” The old man responded, bowing his head.
The forty-six year old turned around, facing the crowd of nobles. He stretched his arms, he spoke loudly.

“Now you all may be wondering why this is done every year. Well, at first it was to send a message, but that changed over the years. Don’t you like seeing criminals kill each other for our entertainment?”
“What?”
“Uh, is he saying what I think he is saying?”
“Oh, hell no. Shits about to get crazy!”
“Yes, as many of you are thinking, I'm making a show where you can watch two death row prisoners fight to death! Isn’t it a waste to hang them?” he exclaimed, explaining his reasoning.
“All that for a simple promotion?” The teen was ready to start attacking him, but refrained due to knowing full well the consequences.
Now, would those very same nobles who hated the execution be willing to pay to watch a battle of death? There was a clear reason for their objections. Even with all the rumors and false statements, nobles still held morals.
Of course, not everyone was the same, but at the end most were human beings at the end of day. Not anyone can commit heinous acts as if nothing happened. Without justification, they couldn’t use that to deflect blame and guilt.
As anyone in the right mind would come to the correct conclusion. There wasn’t any excuse for their possible actions yet if you looked at the root of the problem, you would need to get rid of the environment that they grew up in. Sadly it’s as impossible as eliminating the slave trade in the country.
So, it was obvious which decision nobles would come to.
“You never disappoint with your promotions! Sure! I’ll be there!”
“Same! Just as long as you keep this separate then I’ll be attending both.”
“Count me in! I will have a good time when it’s time.”
Yes, they all agreed.
Why?
Because it was how they were raised. Their morals and ethics are all over the place.
Just because many share the same opinion doesn’t make it a correct one.
Their thought process is that if it’s a criminal then it doesn’t matter.
They committed the worst crimes in existence.
They don’t deserve a second chance.
They don’t deserve a good life.
They deserve to pay for their sins.
They deserve to die in the most gruesome ways.
That’s their punishment for doing immoral actions.
Isn’t this what it's all about?
Don’t we all push our own opinions onto others, stubbornly clinging to our own ideals?
Desperately attempting to convince the other you are correct and they’re not?
We’re nothing, but mindless human beings spouting the same nonsense over and over.
The hypocrisy of the human race.
Though what is wrong with that?
We’re neither saints nor devils.
The world isn’t black and white, yet it isn’t grey like many people claim.
It’s different shades of grey.
Representing how many of us experience the difference between both sides of the same coin.
The world is a beautiful place that is tainted by the actions of the human race.
However, at the same time we’re the ones who give meaning to this world.
We are the best and worst thing to roam this planet.
