Chapter 62 - Sixth sense

Chapter 62 - Sixth sense

Slowly, I began to feel better. It seemed that the excruciating pain I had felt a few minutes ago was a lie. After defeating the snake, I sat down against the wall and let the healing do its work. Although I had never tested it, it seemed to enhance the effect of the healing. After I finished recovering, I stood up and walked towards the corpse of the snake I had defeated. Its body was sliced into several pieces, and a lot of blood was splattered when I cut its body. Pointing my arm at the snake, I activated my ability again. In a few seconds, a voice echoed in my head.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE ACQUIRED THE SKILL (HEAT PERCEPTION)

Hearing the name of the skill, I could easily see what it could be used for. But knowing this, I couldn't help thinking that in a way, I ended up with two very similar skills, albeit with different uses. This automatically reminded me of my ability that I obtained when I killed Ramon-sensei. What would happen if I merged both abilities? I was really curious to find out. Without wasting any time, I prayed to Aurora-sama, and soon an image containing my powers appeared in my mind.

[NAME - MAKOTO TATSUYA]

[AGE - 16]

[SEX - MALE]

[MAIN CLASS - APOSTLE OF GLUTTONY]

[ACQUIRED SKILLS - FAST STEP, DARK MANIPULATION, FLAME, PARALYZING MIST, BODY ARMOR, WEAK POINT VISUALIZATION, REGENERATION, GLACIAL MIST, STORAGE, INTIMIDATION, TELEPATHY, STEEL WIRE, ULTRASONIC WAVES, AUDITORY PERCEPTION, HEAT PERCEPTION, FUSION, FERTILIZATION]

Without wasting any time, I used my fusion skill and selected the two skills.

DO YOU WANT TO MERGE THE SKILLS (AUDITORY PERCEPTION) AND (HEAT PERCEPTION)?

Without a doubt in my mind, I mentally said yes, and soon a new voice echoed in my head.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE ACQUIRED THE SKILL (SENSORY PERCEPTION)

Hearing the voice in my head, a smile spread across my face. From the name, I could tell that this skill was something like the next level for both skills I used in the fusion. With a smile on my face, I started walking again down the dark corridor of the dungeon, while my only source of light came from the small flame in my hand.

After the snake, I couldn't sense any enemies ahead. To tell the truth, this new ability was simply amazing. I could feel everything around me. I think the best way to describe this power is that I suddenly awakened a sixth sense in me.

After walking for a few minutes, I reached another flight of stairs that marked the 3rd floor of the dungeon, with only 1 more to go before I reached the last level. I started down the flight of stairs leading down and soon reached the new level. Just like the previous floor, it was a simple, straight, dark corridor.

There didn't seem to be anything new, other than the fact that I was sensing more presences here than usual. I continued walking cautiously, and with each step I took, I felt that I was getting closer to the beings that were in the place.

But strangely enough, when I reached the place where my senses were screaming danger, there was absolutely nothing in front of me. No matter which way I looked, there was absolutely nothing. However, my senses still insisted that there was something there.

As this strange event continued, I suddenly saw a small ripple coming from the wall. To be more precise, it was as if something was about to come out of the wall but wouldn't necessarily emerge from it.

As soon as the ripple became stronger, my senses started telling me to move aside. Although I didn't know exactly what I was avoiding, my body moved on its own, causing me to duck. While I ducked, I felt a vacuum on top of my head, as if something had just passed over it. But as soon as I looked back, there was nothing there.

(What the hell was that?)

I asked myself, confused. Before I could fully pull myself together again, a black figure emerged from the wall and flew towards me. Even though I didn't know what that thing was, I instinctively felt that if I were hit by it, my end would come.

"Body armor"

I said. As soon as I uttered that phrase, a glow covered my entire body. Within seconds, I felt a thud in my stomach that threw me against the wall.

"Ugh"

I groaned, clutching my stomach. I stood up, pain still throbbing, and scanned all directions, trying to predict where that thing would come from. In fact, I knew I could. My new ability allowed me to have such thoughts. With my heightened senses, I could feel ripples emanating from the wall.

I could also sense that something was moving within the space I was in. I focused on that entity, and the moment it paused in a specific place, I readied myself to intercept it. Just as the monster prepared to launch itself at me, I activated my ability.

"Steel wire"

I exclaimed. Instantly, several small threads projected in front of me. The monster hurtled towards me, unaware that there was something blocking its path. Within seconds, a relatively large bird with black feathers and red eyes lay with its body sliced open on the dungeon floor.

(What the hell was that?)

I wondered as I stared at the monster's lifeless body. This creature had an ability very similar to that shadow-made monster. However, it used its speed to move rapidly through the shadows or something. Observing this, I arrived at a truly frightening conclusion.

(If I hadn't merged those two abilities, I might have died)

As soon as my thought crystallized, I recognized the truth. This monster was exceedingly swift and challenging to detect. It was the combination of both abilities and the sensory perception that had enabled me to overcome this creature.
