Chapter 136 - Dark plots

Eldritch slowly closed his eyes and took a deep breath for a moment, before kneeling down. The muscular man behind him made the same gesture. Sylvia remained calm and composed in the face of this. I, on the other hand, was completely confused about what was happening in front of me. But I deduced that this was Eldritch's way of apologizing for his previous actions.

"While my previous actions are unacceptable, I am glad to know that you are still willing to talk to me, Sylvia-sama. Though it's a bit late for it, my name is Eldritch Daemon. The muscular man behind me is named Gerald, and my other unconscious companion is named Sena"

Eldritch explained with a tone of remorse in his voice. Hearing his words, I unconsciously turned to the demon girl under our guard. Observing her more closely, I could perceive her beauty, her black hair was relatively short. The cut and style that reached her shoulders gave her a charming allure. Though her eyes were closed, I presumed they were red, much like Eldritch and Gerald's. Her relatively long eyelashes bestowed upon her a charming doll-like aura.

As I got lost in the beauty of the unconscious girl, the conversation between Eldritch and Sylvia continued to progress, and soon it was Sylvia's turn to speak.

"Although we have never seen each other, as a member of the royal family, I know quite a bit about you. Besides, you don't need to use “Sama” Currently, we are conversing as two members of royalty, not as a princess and her subordinate. I'm sure you'll feel more comfortable this way too"

Hearing these words, Eldritch glanced at Sylvia for a few seconds before bowing his head again. Slowly rising, he said.

“If that's what you wish, I thank you for your words”

Hearing these words, Sylvia gently nodded in agreement and then said shortly after.

“Now, please tell me what is happening”

Eldritch agreed with a nod upon hearing Sylvia's words. Then, he began recounting the whole story to her. The content was essentially the same as what Eldritch had previously told me, about Eldritch's mother contracting the abyssal mana void disease and how her life was rapidly fading away.

Furthermore, Eldritch also shared that he had been away from home for a month, trying to contact the royal family of Arclight. However, all his attempts had been systematically thwarted by direct orders from the royal family themselves. Upon hearing this, Sylvia frowned and expressed her thoughts thoughtfully.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

“To think that the succubus queen would contract such a terrible disease... However, no matter how much I reflect on it, your narrative doesn't quite fit”

Listening to those words, both Eldritch and I raised an eyebrow. Eldritch was the first to express his doubt in the form of a question.

"What do you mean by that? Are you implying that I could be lying?"

As soon as Eldritch said that, Sylvia shook her head negatively and said shortly after.

"It's highly unlikely that you're lying, but that's not what I mean when I say your story doesn't make sense. I'm referring to the fact that you mentioned coming to seek support from the royal family. I mean, at no point were we informed about someone visiting from Daemon"

Upon hearing these words, Eldritch displayed a surprised expression on his face and then responded.

"What? But that's impossible. It's been a month since I got in touch with the royal family, and they've sent me letters in response too. The reason I tried to kill you was because they told me they would give me the remedy only after I kill you. Though I hesitated at first, considering our countries are on good terms... I didn't have much time left. If I don't return soon, my mother probably won't survive"

Eldritch explained, with the last part of his words coming out a bit lower and melancholic than the rest.

As Eldritch explained, the more I listened to this story, the more confusing the situation became. However, as I pondered over Eldritch's words and considered the energy I had been feeling since the start of the fight, some pieces started to fall into place in my mind.

"Anyway, I don't believe we have enough time to clarify everything at this moment. According to your words, the Succubus Queen's situation is extremely critical right now. Could you wait until tomorrow morning? After talking to the King and Queen, I'm confident both will agree to provide the remedy. After all, my mother and father hold deep respect for the Succubus Queen and all the assistance she has provided us"

Sylvia said, surprising Eldritch for a moment. In a matter of seconds, Eldritch's expression softened. From my perspective, it seemed like he had relieved a heavy burden he carried.

After that, we arranged a place to meet the next morning. Eldritch carefully picked up Sena, who was still unconscious, and left. After settling Fujiwara and Aoi in bed, I asked Saemi and Ana to stay beside them, and they readily agreed.

However, I noticed Ana casting strange looks in my direction from time to time, as if she were waiting for something. I put that feeling aside for now, as there were more important matters to attend to. While walking with Sylvia and Rena, I decided to ask a question.

"By the way, several times during the conversation, I heard the mention of a remedy called “Phoenix Tears” But what exactly is this remedy?"

Upon hearing my question, Sylvia seemed contemplative for a few moments. This behavior made me suspect that the subject of “Phoenix Tears” could be confidential within the royal family. However, to my surprise, after a brief pause, Sylvia decided to share information with me.

"As you might have heard, this is a remedy made from phoenix tears. Phoenix tears have a healing effect capable of treating any illness. However, phoenixes are high-level light spirits, extremely selective in choosing their masters. Only four people in the world have a contract with a phoenix. One of them is my mother, blessed by the goddess of light, Artena-sama"
