Putting aside the fact that for some reason Saemi seemed proud of Sylvia's words, I was somewhat surprised to realize that there are probably others who can use cloning magic as well. This just shows that this world is much larger than I initially thought. As these thoughts crossed my mind, Sylvia's voice sounded softly.
"If you'd like, you can use the carriage"
Sylvia offered, looking at me. Her invitation seemed tempting, but I chose to decline.
"Thank you for the invitation, but it won't be necessary. I can get there faster by running. Besides, the quicker I go, the sooner I can return"
I explained politely to her. Sylvia didn't appear particularly upset by my decision, which left me relieved, as I didn't want to cause any discomfort. Looking at me, she simply said.
"I understand. Please have a safe journey"
Sylvia took another sip of tea from her cup before continuing, and upon hearing her words, a small smile appeared on my face as I replied.
"Of course, I'll be back soon"
I reassured before beginning to walk away. In a matter of minutes, the imposing walls surrounding Sylvia's palace area were gradually becoming more distant. As I moved away, my speed gradually increased. As I ran, the wind blew in my face, providing a brief yet invigorating sense of freedom.
Maintaining a steady running pace, I quickly arrived at the adventurers' guild building. Honestly, I wasn't expecting to find Adya and the others here. Since they were all adventurers, the most likely scenario was that they were on a mission or engaged in some other activity. They might have even traveled to another city for some reason. Nevertheless, my minimum goal was to leave a letter explaining our situation for them.
Upon entering the guild, the scent of alcohol filled my nostrils, as usual. It was a characteristic smell of this place, almost nostalgic, though I hadn't spent enough time here to truly feel nostalgic. Navigating through the environment, I reached the counter where several adventurers were enjoying drinks and laughter, clearly having a good time.
Some adventurers cast fleeting glances in my direction but quickly looked away, uninterested. Fortunately, this suited me fine as well, since I didn't really intend to interact with anyone. Approaching the counter, I waited for a moment, observing the attendants busy with adventurers' requests.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
My wait was brief, as soon as one of the attendants became available, I approached her quickly.
"Welcome to the Kingdom of Arclight's Guild. How may I assist you?"
The attendant said with a broad smile, which I reciprocated warmly. Then, I asked.
"Could you please inform me if the members of the Dawn Roses group are here? I need to speak with them"
I kept my gaze fixed on the attendant as she responded.
"Of course, one moment, please"
She said that and then headed to a board behind her, picking up some sheets. After a quick check, the attendant returned to me and stated.
"Sorry, but they're not here right now. It looks like they left yesterday morning for a subjugation mission and haven't returned yet"
An apologetic look formed on her face. Understanding the situation, I let out a discreet sigh. I had already anticipated this possibility, so I wasn't too disappointed.
"Alright, thank you for letting me know. So, can I leave a letter..."
Before I could finish speaking, a voice from behind me caught my attention, causing me to turn around.
"Hmm? Makoto, is that you?"
Even before turning, I could recognize the voices. As soon as I turned around, my suspicions were confirmed. Adya, Ikari, and Zephyra were there, their expressions reflecting surprise at my presence.
"Hey, girls. Just dropped by to say hi"
I said, with a gentle smile on my face, as I kept my eyes fixed on them. Hearing my words, the three exchanged glances for a few seconds before looking back at me. Shortly after, we were all seated at a round table. I had briefly shared with Adya and her friends what had happened since our last separation. Initially, they were quite surprised but also relieved to realize that nothing serious had occurred.
"So, now you're staying at the princess's palace and working as her bodyguard?"
Zephyra asked, maintaining a neutral expression. Hearing her question, I simply nodded before answering.
"Exactly"
Shortly thereafter, Adya's voice was heard.
"I'm glad to know you care about us so much that you came to tell us in person. But wouldn't it be more practical to send a letter? You're busy, aren't you?"
With a subtle smile, I replied.
"Well, it's true I'm a little busy, but my companions are there too"
Adya nodded, seeming to understand my words. As she had already witnessed the strength of Saemi, Fujiwara, Aoi, and Ana before, she and her friends were aware of my companions' abilities.
As the conversation continued, we covered various topics until suddenly, my expression tightened. Adya noticed my change and asked worriedly.
"Makoto, what happened?"
My response was a murmur.
"I lost the connection"
My words didn't go unnoticed by Ikari, who had keen hearing.
"Connection? What connection?"
Ikari questioned. Without responding to Ikari, I abruptly stood up from the chair and began to run out of the guild.
"Sorry, girls, but I need to go"
I said as I ran out. As I traversed the streets, I noticed some people looking in the same direction I was heading. A massive dark cloud hung over the palace, and every step I took heightened the sense that something terrible was happening.
"Wyvern Wings"
I murmured, and a black mist emanated from my body, forming two bat-like wings on my back. I sent mana to the wings, gaining altitude and hovering in the air before taking off swiftly.
