Chapter 58 - Future Worries

Once we got back to the beach, neither Fujiwara nor Aoi-sensei were there, indicating that both had not yet returned.

"What do we do, go after them?"

Saemi asked beside me. Hearing her question, I also started to think about it. Since there was still some time left before the appointed time, there was no reason for me to go after them at this point. If I had to say something, I would say that we went too fast.

"Let's build a fire around here. There's still some time until the appointed time"

I said, getting a nod from both of them, especially Ana. After that, the three of us started to gather pieces of wood and leaves and put them together to make a fire. After a few minutes, an improvised fire was on the ground. It wasn't the best, but it would do. Once the fire was built, all we had to do was light it. Extending my hand towards the fire, I activated my ability.

"Flame"

As soon as I said this, a small ball of fire jumped from my hand to the bonfire, lighting it.

"Although I don't use this skill much, it's still lucky for certain occasions"

I said with a smile on my face.

"Oh, you guys are already back, and I see you got quite a bit"

As soon as I finished lighting the fire, a voice caught our attention. When we looked towards the voice, we saw Aoi-sensei and Fujiwara walking towards us. It didn't look like they had any luck getting food, but that wasn't really important. The fish I caught would be enough to satisfy everyone. With that in mind, we were soon sitting around the campfire while we waited for the fish to be ready. As we sat there, Aoi-sensei seemed to want to tell me something, but every time I looked her in the eye, she quickly looked away.

"Do you want to ask me something, Aoi-sensei?"

I asked as I looked at her. Aoi-sensei seemed to be lost, listening to my words, not knowing if she should ask or not. But looking determined, she asked.

"And that... I'm a little curious about what Shinji had talked about... about your goddess"

Catching the attention of the others. Apart from Ana, she seemed totally indifferent to what was going on, and the only thing in her field of vision seemed to be the fish that were being roasted.

"To tell you the truth, I was curious too"

Saemi said, drawing the attention of all of us.

"Since we got here, it seems that you have had some ease in talking to your goddess, while I have only talked to mine once... Besides, no matter how much I think, it is really strange that only the two of us got here before the others"

Saemi said, catching Fujiwara and Aoi-sensei's attention.

"I kind of already noticed that there was something strange about Makoto when I first saw him, but it was only afterwards that I found out you two were related... So it was because you two came before the rest of the school"

Fujiwara said, with a thoughtful face. Hearing Fujiwara's words, the three turned to me, their faces clearly said that they wanted some explanations. Although I didn't really need to tell them, I think I would need them to know at least a few things so we could work together better.

"Well... I never really tried to hide it, but it was my goddess who brought us here earlier"

I said nonchalantly.

"What? Why would she do that?"

Saemi asked, shocked.

"It was to help with my revenge"

I said without hiding the truth. I saw no reason to lie. Saemi also knew what I wanted and never tried to stop me anyway. Hearing my words, everyone's face seemed to tense up a bit, but none of them said anything to me.

"I needed to get stronger than Shinji. As my power is related to how many monsters I absorb, I needed a margin to start with"

I said as I picked up one of the fish. Looking to the side, I saw that Ana was already eating, and next to her, there were two toothpicks, indicating that those were already her third ones.

"So... then why did she bring me too?"

Saemi asked, looking at me. That was a question I didn't know how to answer. Besides, I really didn't even know what Aurora-sama's real intentions were.

"Your goddess seems to be quite powerful... What is her power anyway?"

Fujiwara asked. She seemed more interested in my goddess than in me, proper. Hearing her question, I was visibly confused.

"I thought you already knew"

I said as I raised an eyebrow.

"Although I can see your skill window like the others, for some reason only your skills are visible... Or rather, the place where your main class should be is blurred... Or would it be more like a fog?"

Said Fujiwara, looking thoughtful. Listening to Fujiwara's words, I thought about this for a few seconds.

(Is there a plausible reason why my abilities can't be seen? And does it have any relation to Aurora-sama?)

These thoughts made me realize that I really knew almost nothing about Aurora-sama. What kind of goddess was she? Why was she sealed? These thoughts were invading my mind, but still, I really couldn't think that Aurora-sama was doing something that would be harmful to me. In all the conversations I had with her, it always seemed that Aurora-sama was someone kind. As I was lost in my thoughts, a voice coming from Aoi-sensei woke me up.

"Hey Ana, don't eat all the fish by yourself"

Said Aoi-sensei, sounding panicked. As soon as I looked at Ana, I saw that she was eating three fish at the same time. When I turned my gaze to the fire, there was only one more fish. After this, the night unfolded with Ana trying to eat the fish while Aoi-sensei and Saemi tried their best to catch fish so we wouldn't starve to death. While this was going on, I could only look at the scene with a smile on my face.
