Chapter 205 - Condition

Disregarding Darian, I managed to reach the end of the Ring successfully. However, at this point, I wasn't sure whether I should approach to deliver the letter or take some other action. In a way, I felt it would be disrespectful to approach him, so I stopped as soon as I reached the end of the Ring.

My doubts were quickly dispelled when a figure emerged by my side. Even though they were wearing clothes that concealed much of their appearance and body, it was evident that they were a Demi-human. Furthermore, the most striking aspect was the presence of feathers on their arms.

The feathers of their wings immediately reminded me of those of the peregrine falcon in my world, which is recognized as the fastest animal. This similarity possibly explains how she appeared by my side so suddenly.

Either way, it became clear that I should deliver the document to her, and so I did. After handing over the document, she gave me a brief glance and waved goodbye. Then, she disappeared again, reappearing by the king's side.

Casually, she handed the document to the king. As soon as he took the paper in his hands, he began reading slowly. The ring plunged into complete silence, awaiting the next actions of the ruler of Anima. As time passed, the king's expression gradually became darker, to the point where his hands trembled and his claws grew.

Despite the uncertainty, his claws seemed robust enough to tear someone apart as if it were paper. The pupils of his eyes began to change, while it was noticeable that he clenched his teeth.

After a few minutes, the king delivered a powerful punch to his throne, shattering it. Then, his eyes focused directly on me, his previous disinterested expression revealing itself as a facade in the face of the anger and distress that now manifested. The king stared at me intensely, inquiring.

"What is written in this document is true?"

Grid warned me that, in such a situation, avoiding eye contact would be considered a lie, as in Anima, the one who is right has no reason to evade the gaze. Therefore, I kept my eyes fixed on his, responding calmly.

"Yes, I am absolutely sure. This document was taken from Darian's secret vault, in his own residence"

Upon uttering these words, the king slowly closed his eyes, tapping gently with his finger on the chair as he pondered the situation. However, even though his expression suggested deep reflection, it became evident that the decision had already been made from the beginning. After a few seconds, he opened his eyes and directed his piercing gaze to Darian, who shuddered under Shade's restraint.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

"Darian, we will conduct a thorough investigation into this case. If this young man's words prove true, you will face the death penalty and the seizure of your assets"

Upon hearing these words, Darian paled. It seemed that his greatest concern was the possibility of losing his assets, more than facing the death penalty. I already knew that Darian was notably materialistic; for him, nothing mattered except status and honor.

"My king, are you truly believing the words of this human? Please, think carefully. I have served the royal family of Anima for years"

Despite Darian's efforts to turn the situation around, the king remained steadfast in his decision. Furthermore, it was clear that the king's trust in Darian's words was practically nonexistent.

"My words stand unchanged, Darian. Guards, take him to jail"

As these words were spoken, I observed from a distance as some guards approached. Then, I approached Darian, locking eyes with him. His expression instantly transformed into fury upon seeing me.

"If it weren't for you, why does everyone insist on crossing my path? I swear you'll pay for this"

Darian seemed completely beside himself as he shouted these words. Honestly, I'm not sure if he realized he was practically confessing his crimes, but I didn't care anymore. To me, this was even advantageous.

"You still haven't fully grasped your situation, have you?"

With a sly smile on my face, I observed Darian. Upon noticing my expression, his face twisted even more as he struggled to escape Shade's dark hand.

"Darian, there won't be a next time. When the investigation begins, your crimes will gradually come to light. To start, you didn't even try to hide them well because you knew accusing another Demi-human without evidence went against honor. However, for me, honor is not a concern. It's time for you to face the consequences of what you did to Leona"

After uttering these words, I distanced myself from Darian. Even with his cries in the background, I chose to ignore him, proceeding towards the edge of the ring. When the guards finally arrived, Shade dissipated the dark hand and positioned himself by my side. After leading Darian away, the king turned his attention to me, studying me for a few seconds before starting the conversation.

"I sincerely appreciate your assistance. This matter was of utmost importance to me, and I express my thanks both on her behalf and my own"

When the king mentioned "on her behalf" I understood he was referring to Leona's mother. At that moment, I remained crouched on the ground, with Leona already having disappeared again. Since the king showed no interest in questioning that, I chose to leave the matter aside.

"I'm glad I could help. Leona is someone very special to me, so..."

Upon hearing my words, the king remained silent. As I had my head down, I couldn't discern his expression.

"It seems you have sincere feelings for my daughter. Furthermore, the fact that you have other partners also demonstrates your capability as a man"

Upon hearing these words, a smile appeared on my face, but the king still seemed to have more to say.

"However, I can't hand over my daughter so easily. I've made many mistakes as a father, and I won't repeat those failures. Therefore, I'll set a condition for you to win my daughter's hand"

Upon hearing the king's words, I lifted my head with determination in my eyes and asked.

"And what would that condition be?"

As soon as I asked that question, a smile appeared on the king's face.

"Defeat me in a duel"
