Chimera was pretty sure that the blue hair named Gideon was evil.
It almost didn’t have anything to do with the scan that she took, or even the way he seemed to ooze a certain malice.
Nope, it was the eyebrows.
Sarah had been a bit of an eyebrow nerd, strange as it was, and she had a sort of ‘radar’ for people’s attitudes when it came to how they presented themselves.
Try as people might, they couldn’t hide those little quirks about themselves, and for a reason that she wanted to forget, she found a way to gauge how a person carried themselves by their eyebrows.
For example, Ms Magica, who was currently going over a briefing about their first mission, had lightly plucked eyebrows.
To Chimera, this meant she was always attentive of her appearance, and that did not mean just her clothes or skin.
Sarah felt how Ms. Magica wanted to exude confidence, a prim and proper example, someone who should be looked up to and followed.
She was a born leader, careful, and controlled.
Sarah turned to her newest friend Glow, who seemed to be drawn to her for a reason Sarah did not get.
Her brows were bushy, not unkempt but profound.
Carefree, happy, expressive.
Sarah got the feeling that Glow, or whoever she was behind the mask, liked to be known, be seen.
Which was impressive for a tall girl like her.
Perhaps it had something to do with her family, as Glow seemed to idolize her aunt, or maybe it was a shadow of a giant situation, where she wanted to prove herself.
Either way, Sarah liked her.
She turned to look at the villain in hero’s clothing.
No blemish, no pulled threads, no missing hairs or hanging loose lines.
Methodical, careful, perfectionist.
All the signs of a serial killer, one who wanted to be sure that his appearance was immaculate, and non offensive.
Gideon wasn’t expressive like Glow, and he definitely wasn’t trying to set an example like the magical heroine.
Unseen, he wanted to be looked over and seen for a ‘normal’ person, well, as normal as a superhero could be.
Sarah stared at the arm cannon.
Well, maybe he wanted to be noticed too.
Still, with the scan she took and the unbelievable amount of care he took to something as small as eyebrows, Chimera knew something bad was going to happen.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
How do I tell someone?
It was the dilemma. If she told someone how she knew, she’d be either laughed at, or dissected.
After studying as a hero scientist, Sarah also knew about the ways they would check for authenticity.
It was simply a lose-lose situation with that, because the evidence from the allegation wouldn’t match up.
Unless she explained, and there goes her cover.
A darker thought emerged in Chimera’s mind as she glanced over at the wolf in their flock.
He’s going to pull something, when and how are the key. I could… use him as a distraction.
Sarah was determined to find some of the villain’s tech, because she had another reason for joining the Hero’s League.
It was to find what she believed to be proof of a certain CEO’s true motives.
Monica Ferrous.
Sarah grimaced as the memory replayed in her head.
Bang, Bang.
The unsettling smile.
How she caught her so quickly.
It didn’t add up, especially considering the steps Sarah took to make sure she wasn’t caught.
Destroyed the security feeds, shut down both back-up generators to prevent the rest of the system from going back on. I even set off a cherry bomb in one of the toilets to distract the guards.
How did she find me so fast?
Sarah stared down at her hand, and the new body she had underneath it.
My instinct is telling me she’s got connections to some shady people, and call me petty, but I want revenge on the murderer.
She heard part of the briefing, talking about Dr. Zlo’s hideout and what they should expect.
Sarah however, knew something about the mastermind already.
Zlo’s a methodical bastard, and he thinks outside the box when it comes to his crimes. From most of what I studied back in the day, he always had to be the center of attention, which means he kept tabs on those he could exploit to conscript them into his outrageous crimes. He loved lording it over the people he saw as beneath him.
She paused her thinking as Ms. Magica snapped her fingers for their attention.
“Zlo’s compound is located under the Terra City Park Zoo, near the polar bear enclosure. After the ‘Ice Cream Sundoom’ that he committed four months ago, many speculated how he got so much cream in the first place.”
Ms. Magica held her wand as a laser pointer, and noted a picture of the Terra Dairy plant.
“The New Terra Dairy plant had shut down a year ago and was undergoing new leadership and renovations. The cream we found was a direct match to this facility. However, it turned out the entire buyout was in fact a cover, for what he planned to do two and a half months ago.”
Sarah shivered.
Right before I died…
That was how Sarah speculated about the connection that she felt had to exist between Dr. Zlo and Chemtech.
His mutant polar bear heist, also know as the 'Great White Disaster'.
Which, ironically, was the 'cause of death' of one Sarah Bockman.
She had no access to the data of the investigation, but the paper that her bro showed her in the hospital before they left confirmed that was the cause according to the coroner.
Monica Ferrous had a connection, and if Sarah was right, Dr. Zlo would have something to hold onto in case he wanted blackmail for another crime.
“The Great White Disaster, as many of you might have heard, was orchestrated by Dr. Zlo as a means to cause chaos while he stole DNA samples from the City Park Zoo and Pharma Labs. The Zoo is where we found the entrance to the secret underground compound he had made. It’s speculated that the facility is abandoned, but Dr. Nefarious Zlo is a methodical bastard.
Most likely, he has the place trapped, which will be a good bit of practice for you all. If you can take control of this facility and shut down the defenses, we’ll be one step closer to catching this madman.”
Sarah tuned out the Q&A that the others started with Ms. Magica, and instead went over her own objectives.
One, gather evidence of a connection between Dr. Zlo and Chemtech.
Two, take out the blue haired monster human.
Three, take all of the things.
Four, Profit.
She giggled to herself as she made a show of asking a few inane questions for the mission, all stuff she knew already, but appearances and all.
She caught the mystery monster in human clothing eyeballing her with fascination.
Keep staring jerk, because the moment you miss me is the moment you are food.
