Chapter 4 Redesign your Human

Chapter 4 Redesign your Human

Sarah awoke to a slice of ham being placed on her.

Involuntarily, the ham sunk inside her, and she digested its contents.

Oh, domesticated pig, and this one was female, interesting.

The data surged inside her mind, and soon she knew most things about it.

Even has some honey in it, is… is that Bee DNA?

She smiled at the DNA sequences slowly being archived within her body.

Can I fly… there’s the data for wings… and I do possess the energy to make them carry me. Heck, if they can’t I can shrink my mass to allow it with the smaller wing sets. I always knew the Crimson R series was versatile, but this level of use is ridiculous!

She opened her ocular sense and saw her friend slowly dripping maple syrup on her.

“Morning.”

Sarah morphed into her humanoid form.

“Care to explain why you're dripping delicious tree blood on my face?”

“The ham shrunk inside you, and I was testing to see if it worked with a liquid form.”

Sarah glared at her friend, while also opening her mouth to allow the delicious mapleness enter her orifice.

“Hmm, liquids do not work unless conscious thought is applied, which means you don’t have to worry about dissolving in water. It’s fascinating really, the data we have right now is so much more than what we were testing in the lab.”

Sarah licked the parts that still contained tree blood, and found out she also gained photosynthesis in her repertoire.

“It was never sanctioned by the board; they didn’t want to lose their precious investment. I can tell you that based on my personal experiences, that Crimson R would never have gotten to Human testing. It would literally eat its host to sustain its level of mass. The only way I’m still moving is because the energy that I gained from your body’s excess fat cells and biowaste kept me from having to go to dangerous levels.”

“W-Wait… that was why I felt lighter this morning?”

Sarah nodded, “also you won’t have to go pee or poop for a while. It’s weird, I should feel disgusted by that but… I just feel full.”

Meghan placed a hand on her stomach, “No more riding around inside me, okay?”

Sarah shook her head, “I need you to bring me to Alen, Meghan, so at least once more.”

Meghan gave her a pleading look.

“Meghan, please? I can’t be around my brother anymore, not like this. Let me cure him, and I promise you I won’t bother you again.”

Meghan sighed as she turned her pitying eyes away, “I’ll help you Sarah, and you don’t have to leave unless you want to. I should have helped you when I could have anyway. It might be too late now, but… you’re still you in there, and we’re friends, right?”

Sarah held up a blobby appendage, turning it into a fist.

“Always.”

Meghan smiled back, bumping her fist against her friends.

“Okay, jumping in.”

“No Wait!”

But Sarah already jumped inside her body through her skin.

“Damnit Sarah!”

Meghan glared up at the name place for the New Terra Medical Hospital, feeling a bit of discomfort as she waited for one of the nurses to call her back inside.

She had already found Sarah’s brother’s room, but since only family could visit, she had to get some proof that she and Sarah were colleagues. It helped that Sarah was pronounced dead, since the leech of an establishment wanted someone else to start paying for the boy’s stay.

“Ms. Schumann, the patient is ready to meet you.”

“Thank you… *bitch*.”

Meghan walked along the hallways as the nurse traveled ahead of her, scouting out the rooms along the way.

They turned to one that was immediately to the right, next to the waiting room.

“Mr. Bockman is inside right now, please be respectful of the patient as he has just recently returned from chemotherapy. Masks are to the left when you walk in, and please wash your hands.”

“Yeah, okay.”

The nurse walked away, “please ring the bell on the side of the wall in case of emergencies.”

Meghan shook her head as she walked inside, opening and closing the door behind her.

“Oh… Alen.”

Alen had seen much better days since he was diagnosed with a malignant form of leukemia.

Meghan remembered when Sarah spoke to her about it, recalling that the variant that Alen had been infected with was made in part from a Super villain by the name of Dr. Pox.

Apparently his scheme was to release a strain of Leukemia cancer for ransom of the cure.

“Once they got him, they found out that there wasn’t a cure. The bastard had a belief that the pox would clean out the ‘lessers’ from the populations, making way for a better humanity. Basically, the guy was trying to kill off what he thought were the recessive genes of humanity!”

Sarah was livid when she told Meghan about it, and she could understand why.

“Alen, it’s me, Meghan-,”

“Why are you here?”

She winced when she saw the boy's face.

He'd been sixteen when the cancer got to him, and two years later he was still fighting the sickness. He was pallid despite his brown skin, black and brown hair with brown eyes just on the verge of retaining their normal color.

He was tense, angry, and tired.

“I-I came here to visit you. It’s what Sarah would’ve-,”

“Don’t. Talk. About Sarah. You’re the reason she’s dead.”

He sat up to glare at her, “the only reason you’re here is because you feel guilty. Don’t talk to me about visiting me, this is all for you!”

Meghan felt like a knife flew into her chest, “I-It wasn’t my fault! I didn’t want her to die anymore more than you did!”

“I read the letter she gave me Meg, I knew the moment she sent it to me that she was going to die. You know why?”

The snarl on his young face was like staring at an angry spirit with his pallid skin.

“Because Sarah was going to cure me, and she told me she found the cure. If anyone, ANYONE, FOUND THAT CURE, THOSE BASTARDS AT CHEMTECH COULDN’T MILK PEOPLE LIKE ME! Sarah could have gotten out of that damn lab and started working for the Hero League like she always wanted. So I know those monsters killed her, and you sold her out! I will never ever for-,”

“Enough, Alen.”

Meghan gasped as she felt her friend emerge from her body, turning to the voice of her friend, her tears threatening to leak from her eyes.

When her friend materialized in front of her brother, the red pigment of Crimson R was nowhere to be seen, and she saw her friend in the flesh, albeit naked.

“Meg, a smock if you would.

“Y-Yeah, I’ll go get one.”

Meghan took one last look at the boy, whose face went from pure rage to hopeful sorrow in moments. She walked out of the room as the stings of her past sins resurfaced once more.

I have to make this up to them, I can’t live like this!

“Hey Alen.”

Her brother was staring at her like she had just come down from heaven.

“Fuck, I’m gonna die soon, aren’t I?”

“What? What do you mean?”

He sighed, “my sister is in front of me? I’m either asleep and dreaming, or I’m having a final thought of my sister as my brain shuts down. Let me guess, you’re going to cure me and we’re going to live happily ever after?”

“Well, I am going to cure you, but no, no happily ever after… well kind of? I mean, you’re going to get my life insurance, and it was pretty substantial last time I checked. My savings was in the millions last I checked too and you’re going to be healthier than you ever been. So… okay kind of happily ever after and then some.”

“Shit you even sound like Sarah. Why? Why am I only seeing you now at the end of my life? Fucking bullshit!”

“Hey, Bowling Ball, listen up! You’re not dying today. I’ll explain it in a second.”

“Damnit, stop messing with me! My sister is dead, and I never got to talk to her this much. I get it, I’m seeing what I always wanted, but this sucks so much. Please just leave me alone!”

“Alright that’s it!”

She jumped on top of him.

“W-What the hell are you doing Sis?!”

“Fixing you, now shut up.”

She turned into her amorphous blobby form and sunk into her brother’s skin.

“Fuck! What the Fuck?!”

“Stop swearing so much, damnit!”

She merged into her brother’s body, quickly cleaning up the gunk in his systems.

It took all of her focus not to latch onto her brother’s panicking thoughts, and deep-seated regrets.

Alen… I’m so sorry about everything… I’ll make this right.

She got to work, first going after the ‘cure’ running like a bulldozer through her little brother’s body.

My God, this Chemotherapy shit is the worst. It’s literally eating up his body. Let’s get rid of that first.

She forced the malignant storm of chemicals into her body, breaking down their compounds within her.

God, the amount of destruction in this stuff is menacing, and people put this into their bodies?

She shook her head, returning her focus to the next part of the puzzle.

Okay now the cancer… wow that shit is vicious…

The cancer cells were grabbing stray blood cells and morphing them into spikey versions that dug into her brother’s organs. One was bad enough, but after grabbing so many, the body was starting to shut down from the lack of red blood cells.

It didn’t help that the little guys couldn’t do their jobs, being converted into small spikey urchins from the look of them.

Well, that’s enough of you bastards.

She grabbed hold of her brother’s immune system and cranked the production up to eleven. With unpracticed aim she launched a salvo of antibodies that marked all of the cancer cells in his system, targeting them for the massive swarm of reinforcements she was about to send.

Alright, while they handle those blood suckers, its time to take out the source.

She moved into her brothers very bones, and grabbed hold of the bone marrow inside of him.

This was why it was so hard to cure him, his body couldn’t get inside here to fix the true cause.

Not anymore though.

She poured her energy into expanding herself, and promptly ate her brother’s bone marrow.

It’s okay, we’re on a clock here. Now I just got to replace his bone marrow with something better. As long as I got his DNA, it should be easy, but I can’t be too cautious.

She got to work.

Using the marrow she had within herself, she added her components of Crimson R to the new marrow she was forming. Bit by bit, she made it stronger, able to create new blood cells in minutes when it would have normally taken days. On top of that she increased the strength of the bones to house the newer system she was forming.

Okay, test run.

She placed the marrow back into the newly made bone structure.

It started off slow, using the energy of her brother’s fat cells to push up production.

After a few more minutes, the system shot to life. The red blood cells that came out were a deeper red now, and through their delivery Sarah could tell that these cells were not like the original variants.

They were superhuman.

She could feel the difference in her brother’s body right away.

First the new T-cells she created, which she called her little ‘hunter killer’s spread out to attack the cancer cells. They focused their fire on every infected source, purging the entire production of cancer cells within minutes.

The blood cells were even stranger, spreading and replacing the old blood cells with their new variant much like a virus would. Instead of spreading out of control though, they only targeted their old brethren and stopped shortly after.

The organs were starting to be affected as well, gulping the now super-efficient oxygen from the super red blood cells.

The lungs got it the best, developing a regenerating tissue that broke the weakness of the old lungs and replaced them with an organic structure that made breathing even more efficient.

Oh, Oh no…

She could see the chain reaction forming around her. The red blood cells, the essential couriers of energy in the body, were now increasing everything around them to superhuman levels.

Even her brother’s brain and eyes were being replaced with better versions of themselves.

She could hear him wincing and silently screaming through her connection.

I may have done too well… shit, what do I do?

She did a last check to make sure the cancer didn’t become super too, but sighed in relief when none of the cancer remained.

In fact, the hunter killers were breaking down the cancer cells and analyzing them.

Wait… what are they doing?

They started attacking systems in her brother’s body, but replaced them with healthy newer super tissues.

Oh, damnit now they’re helping with the changes.

Sure enough, her brother was becoming superhuman, and now there was no stopping it. His entire body was becoming more efficient, more super by the minute.

Even his muscles look like braided steel cords now, despite still being flesh.

Okay… time to leave.

She pushed herself out of the body, noticing the components she left switching over to her brother’s control just as she disconnected from him.

“Okay so, you’re going to feel a bit of pain for a while, but it’s all going to be better now."

“Fuck, I’m in hell, aren’t I? This damn dream is actually a nightmare to torture me, isn’t it?”

“I swear Bowling Ball, I only meant to cure the cancer cells and then it spiraled out of control.”

“I feel like I’m on fire you damn harpy, what the hell did you do?!”

“I made everything better.”

“What did you make better, all I feel is pain!”

“I made ‘everything’ better.”

Her brother stopped wincing for a moment.

“Wait… by everything… do you mean ‘everything’ everything?”

She nodded at him.

Alen took a breath and let it go.

Minutes passed. Meghan returned with a smock.

One hour passed in silence.

He finally took another breath.

“I… didn’t even need to do that… I just felt nervous not to.”

“You are now a superhuman, you’re welcome.”

Alen looked over his body, touching his different parts as he smiled goofily.

“I have abs, and pecs… my eyesight is so clear Sis. My head doesn’t hurt either… wow.”

“Yeah… the hunter killers went crazy and started killing all your tissues, but the new red blood cells I built for you started fixing everything super-fast. In fact,”

She made a little pinprick in his skin.

“Wow, that didn’t even hurt.”

They saw a little bit of blood come out, only for it to suck itself back in. He wiped the area away with his hand, and besides a little red, there was no wound anymore.

She held his hand to check what was happening inside him.

The red blood cell was eating the foreign bacteria like a snack. After it did so, it immediately went back to work. She also noticed the hunter killers patrolling the blood stream, even though they weren’t needed anymore.

“Okay, so your blood eats sickness now, and your immune system is so powerful I’m almost certain you’ll never get sick again.”

“W-Wait, what did you do to him?”

Meghan only now seemed to catch on what was happening.

“I inadvertently made my brother into a superhuman."

“Like Captain Asta? Or Ms. Magica?

“Like Ton and Brick actually.”

“So… you just, what, made a superhuman with your body? Crimson R shouldn’t have that ability though. It only works on dead cells.”

“I… know what you mean… but Crimson R doesn’t seem to be only attributed to dead cells. In fact, I’m pretty sure I can replicate it, Meg.”

Meghan looked at Sarah in shock, “i-if you can… then… oh my god… oh my god, we just created a way to make everyone into superhumans… oh fuck.”

Sarah shrugged, “we always knew that Crimson R was different than the other R series Meg. Now we know how much.”

Meg grabbed Sarah by the shoulders.

“Me! Please do me!”

Sarah chuckled awkwardly as her friend shook her back and forth.

Well, this could be interesting.
