Chimera was feeling quite a bit more cramped than usual, what with the three more minds she was now carrying around.
“That right there missy, that’s the button he pressed.”
Hector being the most odd of the bunch as he directed her throught the facility.
Seemed that Hector used to be one of the scientists, a rather gifted one at that.
It was his power after all, a super intelligence that allowed him to retain details and information insanely fast.
He was a Hero’s League scientist, and apparently a colleague of Pox and…
And her mother.
“So wonderful to know that Maggie’s little ones made it. I tell ya, she was so distraught after she thought you two were dead.”
Chimera felt a pang of pain in her heart as she heard that.
“That’s Sarah, Mr. Hector, I’m Chimera.”
“Oh… beg your pardon little one, you just looked like a spitting image of little Sarah, I assumed you… nevermind.”
Chimera shook her head as the door opened, only for the other voice to join in the conversation.
“So, you were not an experiment… or at least, not like you claimed.”
Chimera couldn’t help but feel like she got caught cheating on a test with Ms. Magica, now that the superheroine had access to all of her knowledge floating around in her head.
It went both ways of course, but now there was absolutely no way to hide her secrets if the Hero’s League wanted to… do away with her.
“You are absolutely right about that… though it pains me to say.”
“Come on, can’t I get a pass for good behavior or something? I saved your ass, you at least got to capitulate!”
“Being a hero sometimes means making a tough choice, and not necessarily one you agree with. You, Chimera, are a very real threat to humanity by simply existing. Imagine what would happen if someone could… Oh.”
“Yeah, that’s why I’m here in the first place! You’re freaking welcome!”
“...The Irony of this situation does not change that you withheld information that was essential to keeping the public safe.”
“Oh? And where are the freaking heroes right now, miss rule follower?! I haven’t seen one trying to stop the Igauna outside, and you got yourself de-skinned. What if I had brought myself in? I’d be right in that tube next to you, likely than not!”
Chimera turned right to continue fown the halls as she spotted both Sarah and Aden from the look of them rushing along.
“Oh thank god! Help me talk some sense into this crazy person!”
Sarah shook her head as she kept running, “steel your mind, Monica’s trying to control us using her ability. Get rid of your human nerves and switch to blob form.”
Chimera did just that as she adopted a familiar form to Sarah’s, floating as a disk with electricity helping her float above the floor.
“Alright, tendril, now.”
Chimera threw one of hers over to Sarah, who latched onto it with one of her own.
A split second of data transferred between them, and soon Sarah had all of the new data, along with Chimera.
“Good Idea, get Crysa up and running first, and Hector. Hold onto Magica for now, we can’t trust her not to interfere.”
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
Chimera was already doing that, but the indignant noises from the superheroine caused her to start speaking through Chimera.
“I will reserve my own proclivities, but I request the option to fight against this death child. Do not keep me from getting my vengeance.”
“Oh, but the right thing would be to take her in and have her face justice, wouldn’t it?”
The cold anger coming from Ms. Magica made Chimera tremble.
“There is no way to possibly have her meet true justice, so Superhero Law must suffice.”
Chimera nodded, even as the thought of ending Monica made her feel strange.
She made the choice to try to take people over, she must have known where this would lead.
Even as she tried to convince herself, Chimera felt uneasy as the group met up with Clonemera and Aura.
“Oh thank god you guys are alright!”
Another tendril shared and the now five people running down the halls raced to a massive door with a lock the size of a garage door.
It was filled with tumblers, and a key card scanner next to the side blinked yellow as it waited for a keycard.
Gleaming with a silver sheen, it looked untouched by even dust as the group made their way up to it.
Aden grabbed one of the tumblers, ripping the thing off as the door beeped angrily at him.
“Worth a try, I guess.”
Chimera shook her head as he shrugged at the group.
Sarah on the other hand approached the card reader, and with a regurgitated belch, threw up a woman that Chimera recognized as one of the scientists that were walking around dazed.
Chimera glared at Sarah with confusion for that, to which the scientist simply shrugged.
“Worth a try.”
The scientist’s key card flashed on the scanner, and a few moments later, the door began to open slowly.
Before the group entered though, Chimera got to work on finishing up the new bodies for both Hector, Crysa, and Ms. Magica.
Mr. Hector came out first, a full green and vibrant look with a gelatin shaped mustache on his blob features.
Crysa came out looking almost iridescent, a bed of flowing tendrils mimicking her hair.
And Finally, despite Chimera’s reservations, Ms. Magica floated out of her body as if she was a spirit.
Comically, she had a pointed hat made from her body, looking very similar to the witch’s hat that she used to wear before.
“Oh dear me, I can’t thank you girls and guys enough for this!”
“Yes! Where’s Pox?! I’m ending him once and for all!”
“...Similar to my slime form… but not uncomfortable. Will have to be tested later I suppose.”
Chimera felt drained for a few minutes before her bio-reactor replaced the lost energy, and that gave the group time to plan.
Sarah stood in the middle of the group as she went over the details of what they knew, and while the group added their suggestions, it was Hector that had the best idea.
“Look, I know you all are raring to go after Mr. Tiberius, but the best way to do that is by using liquid nitrogen. I saw the man talk about how it causes a chemical imbalance with the formula he was working on. Get me to the storage area in the lab, and I’ll get you all the liquid nitro you need!”
“Right, Aden, Clonemera, you go with Hector. Crysa, Chimera, and Magica will come with me to go after Pox, and Monica.”
Hector moved up to speak, “careful everyone, the young missus is a cut from her father. Ruthless, Cunning, and Sadistic. She won’t hesitate, so don’t go at her unless you mean it.”
“You need not remind us Hector, the knowledge is in our heads already.”
He smiled sheepishly, “still, just be careful is all. You guys helped me, and I don’t want any of you to go dying or worse.”
Chimera nodded, and the rest joined as the group got together to go through the doors.
The lights blinded them for a moment before the door finally revealed the interior.
Chimera couldn’t help but gasp as she took in the sight in front of her.
It was a massive laboratory, filled with desks, glass enclosures and glowing capsules that hummed with the lights around.
The ceiling was at least three hundred feet above, and seemed to be dotted here and there with glowing blue light.
But that was not what caused Chimera to gasp.
For in front of her was hundreds of people in suits, costumes and apparel that marked them as heroes.
They were all staring at a screen that hovered over the crowd, and the look in most of their eyes was one of pure reverence.
Chimera could help but feel an ominous sense of dread as the group walked in.
“Oh, it appears the guests have finally arrived. I was wondering when they would figure out about the door. Took them a full fifteen minutes longer than I had thought.”
Chimera turned to the screen to see the one that had started not only Sarah’s but her own journey to find the ones responsible.
On the screen, in a face that was identical to Chimera’s was Monica Ferrous.
“Welcome, my chosen few, to the end of humanity!”
