Chapter 27 Leaning on a FRiend

What?!

“What does that mean?”

Aura shook her head, “I can't explain it, I don’t have all the details anymore anyway, since father made me forget, but if you meet him, it’ll all be clear.”

“You want me to walk up to the bastard who likely made my parts? What if he controls me like he did you? I can’t take a risk like that!”

“He wouldn't! Whatever Father’s plan is, he wouldn’t use you like that… he needs your cooperation to make it work… I think.”

“You know things.”

“Yes, but not everything. Only he knows everything.”

Chimera shook her head, “none of this matters right now anyway, I need to find Claire and Miguel. Where did you tell them to go?”

Aura looked down, “when I think about what I told them to do… I feel so bad. Did I really hurt people?”

“Not important right now, and I’ll help you sort through those feelings later, but for now, where did you send them?!”

Aura nodded at her, “I sent them to my father. They are to help him break out.”

“You sent them to Blackrock?!”

“Technically it was Monica, but yes.”

Chimera wrapped a tentacle around Aura as she switched back to her Huntress form.

“We need to stop them, It’s not just Dr. Pox that’s in there!”

“Well, Monica would release the biggest distractions she could if it meant freeing Father. Also I can glide on water faster than this.”

“I got to take you to a friend, since I can’t bring you to the Hero’s League.”

“Why not? Aren’t you a hero?”

Chimera debated that as she pushed open the doors to the underground port.

When she heard a lurch overhead.

Then a bunch of squeaks and creaks.

Followed by a piece of concrete that fell to the floor next to them.

"So... those water cutters hit a support beam or something?"

Aura shrugged as more debris fell around them.

"Come on!"

As the door lurched open, Chimera made an attempt to push it closed behind her, which almost succeeded, until the hinges for the door started to break under the strain of the overhead building.

Chimera tuned to find the boat, hoping that the group that she saved was still there.

However, the boat had left already, with only a note held to the floor with a knife.

She picked it up along with the keys as she read.

Dear hero,

I want to thank you for your help freeing these fine people from a horrid fate.

Some of the passengers and workers were starting to show signs of trouble though, and even tried to kill themselves.

As such, me and the few you helped free made the decision to leave.

I apologize that we could not wait for you.

Best of luck fighting that woman!

Mark

P.S. I left you a boat to use, the key is on the knife,

Chimera grabbed the thing as fast as she could throwing Aura onto the boat as she jumped aboard.

“I’ll start the engine, can you get us moving towards the shore?”

“Easily.”

The water around them started to churn, and soon Chimera and Killer Whale started to rush out of the under-port into the harbor of New Terra.

The building behind them shattered under its own weight, and Chimera could make out the screams of an unfortunate fat man in the aftermath.

Serves the bastard right.

She felt a small smile come to her lips as she stared out into the New Terra Harbor.

This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.

The night was giving way to the dawn, and a silver of the sun could be seen as the two of them turned around towards the shore.

Chimera had been trying to start the engine for a good minute.

Turning her head to see her captured villainess simple manipulate the water, she toss the key away.

“Screw it, the engine is shot anyway.”

Chimera called upon the water kinesis within her skill set, and felt the pull of Aura’s power as she pushed them forward.

Instead of interrupting that, she grabbed hold of Aura and pushed bio energy that she saved inside of her into Aura.

“W-Woah! That’s incredible!”

She could feel Aura beam with excitement as the power coursed through her, pushing them faster and faster.

They zoomed by as the shore approached.

“Aura! Slow us down!”

“Umm… the power boost kind of… made me lose control!”

The boat was suddenly hitting something it was never meant to drive on, and was sliding across the streets of New Terra with a screeching sound that reminded Sarah of Meghan’s new Lab.

“Bail!”

“I’m scared!”

Chimera sighed as she grabbed hold of the villainess, and wrapped her up in her blobby form.

After a few bounces of a couple of buildings, she released Aura, dragging her along as she made her way to the signal of her planted trees.

Chimera found their home in a second, running inside while the darkness of the buildings nearby still hid her and Aura.

“KId, where’ve you been?”

“No time Fred, can you open the door?”

A button press later opened the side door of their warehouse home, and Chimera bounced inside with Aura in hand, who was starting to look like she was seeing stars.

“Close it!”

“Little lady, why are you so flustered?”

“I’m sorry Fred, there’s no time! I’ll let Meghan explain it to you afterwards, I promise!”

Fred nodded as he closed the door behind them, the doors' new electrical maglocks shunting the thing in place after it touched the floor.

Meghan’s been busy.

She knocked on the door as loud as she could, until she saw the button next to the lab’s door.

Hit to make sure I hear you, that means you Sarah.

Chimera smiled as she hit the button.

A foghorn blasted in the other room, muffled by the sound-proofed lab.

“Botty 6, get the door,” Sarah heard Meg over the intercom as a small bot unlocked the door.

“Meg! We got trouble.”

Meghan turned around to face Chimera, and she looked a hell of a lot more different than when Chimera left that night.

Meghan was now outfitted in her mark 1 power armor, which fit over her like it was made for construction work.

It was bulky, had metal scrap and parts for armor, and various gadgets that were welded to the arms and wrists.

Her helmet was a modified welding mask, that had various cameras and devices that wouldn’t seem out of place on a battleship, just smaller.

The only thing that Chimera could make out from the suit was Meghan's smile.

“Alright, looks like you got something, spill it.”

Chimera chuckled a bit, and went over her night at the fight club/laboratory.

Meg put a hand on her shin, a power glove like fixture that had a pneumatic gauntlet that looked to be made for putting rivets into a vessel.

“Looks like we got to hit the prison before they do, or at the very least stop them from succeeding. Otherwise we’ll have super criminals back on the street.”

Chimera nodded, “Aura also needs a place to lay low, So I thought here would be good.”

Meg looked at Aura, “she knows your a villain, right?”

Aura nodded, “she fixed my head though, so I’m not going to do anything bad.”

“That’s just the thing a villainess would say to break into our secret base.”

Aura looked around at the junk, the 3D Printer who was sentient, the little bots who were now wrestling each other and the power armor that Meg was currently wearing.

“It’s not all that secret, is it?”

Meghan placed a hand on her chin.

“She’s kind of a brat.”

“Yup, but she’s turning over a new leaf and I don’t like that Monica tried to kill her.”

“Oh that’s all you had to say honey.”

Meg grabbed both of Aura’s hands, “stay as long as you like, and if you need a room, Let Botty Prime over there know, he’s a handy home builder.”

Chimera, Aura and Meghan turned to look at Botty Prime, who was a meter long and wide version of the smaller Bottys.

He had a glowing green eye unlike the smaller ones red eyes, and a hard hat that seemed to be riveted to his head plate.

With a little wiggle of his leg, he gestured Aura to follow him.

“So, it can understand me?”

“Of course, Botty Prime’s my assistant next to Printy, but less sarcastic, so he makes for good company.

“Creator, you could always just try to be better at taking care of yourself. If you did that I would have less things to rib you on.”

“Even if I have a tech genius brain I still make mistakes, so don’t you go all snippy.”

“Of course Creator Meghan, would you like me to pad the sharp corners for you?”

“Yes, but not for me, Botty 2 got cut on his leg and he wouldn’t stop crying about it.”

“As you will.”

Chimera patted Aura on the back, “go with Prime, he’ll get you settled. We’ll deal with your sister’s plan.”

Aura nodded, a look of fascination on her face as Botty Prime came and softly led her into the warehouse.

Chimera nodded, and turned to Meghan.

“You want me to keep an eye on her?”

“That’s what Fred’s for, just fill him in, and meet me at Blackrock. It’s time for your debut!”

Meghan's smile turned into a full grin as she grabbed some very dangerous looking gadgets.

“Oh, I’ve been waiting for this.”
