The camera that Chimera was staring at had no sound to speak of, but the picture was clear at least.
The two poor scientists seemed to have found their objective, and now both Dr. Pox and Terralord were free from their cages.
We got to get there, he can’t get away!
Chimera ran through her powers, cycling and combining the ones she thought would work best against the mad scientist.
She glanced over at Terralord as well, the death child growing something from the floor.
No… he was splitting the floor open!
Livewire was seeing the same thing, but instead of staring at the villains, she seemed to be checking the surroundings.
“That's near the cafeteria, most likely. If we hurry we should be able to find them.”
“We can’t let them get away!”
Meghan turned to look at her, a bit of concern on her face, but Chimera wasn’t paying attention to it.
All she had eyes for was the bastard who killed her family.
Her powers settled, and she went with the electromagnitism followed with regeneration from the super’s blood in the park. She added the water kinesis and her friend Chase’s enhanced metabolism that she used to fuel her super speed.
As much as she wanted speed, it was still hard for her to control that well, since she hadn’t had a chance to test it.
And she couldn’t afford to test something she wasn’t sure of.
Not against him!
“Come on, let’s go!”
She pushed out of the guard kiosk, only to run into a few prisoners fighting a guard.
The guard seemed to be holding their own, but the three prisoners were super themselves, and one of them had some form of telekinesis, and was using it to hit the guards blind spots with his own nightstick.
“Chimera, we need to help.”
Chimera turned to Meghan, “we can’t afford to leave him behind, Dr. Pox is the greater threat.”
Livewire stopped as they were about to pass by, taking a moment to shoot the three with her taser bolts, knocking them out after a few seconds of electrocution.
“Chimera, you’re getting tunnel vision.”
“No I’m not!”
Chimera sped off, not bothering to wait for her friend.
She’ll catch up, but we can’t let him escape!
Chimera felt the nagging concern of her friend in the back of her mind as she zoomed past the various fights and chaos that engulfed the prison.
Blackrock was made to keep super villains and criminals inside, and there was no way out for them besides the ship.
They’ll be fine… they have to be. I can’t afford to help and let him go. Not when I have this chance!
Chance?
The nagging concern grew louder as Chimera finally made it to the hole.
Why am I so…
Her body moved, jumping into the pit.
It was as if her body was on auto-pilot, zooming passed the various pipes and structures deep in the prison.
The hole that Terralord made was only for the ground level it seemed, as the entire prison opened up to a sprawling complex.
It looked like a medical facility, with a few water towers in the background lined with pipes and fixtures.
The area itself was clean despite its grey appearance, and the lights were bright enough to illuminate the entire area.
Why is this here? Blackrock shouldn’t have something like this?!
She searched around for her quarry, her mind starting to haze with anger.
When she finally spotted them.
Four people were moving to what appeared to be a underwater dock, with a submarine set inside.
She saw the four of them make way for the hatch that would allow them entry, and a part of her knew that she could make it if she pushed herself.
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
Slingshotting her way passed stunned scientists and what appeared to be prisoners, she reached the four just as the hatch for the submersible opened.
“Stop! You’re not getting away Pox!”
The four turned to face her, the scientists seemingly trying to break free of their compulsion.
Dr. Tiberius Poxus turned to his side to look at her.
He was a middle aged man who, despite his age, looked incredibly young and fit.
His body was modeled into a fitting form, his lab coat being the only thing that distinguished him as a doctor at all.
Chimera wouldn’t have been surprised if this was actually a model in disguise.
His black hair and red eyes stared back at her as if he was dissecting her.
“...It seems we have an intruding guest. Teron, dispatch her while we get away, you know the rendezvous.”
“So you leave me here to deal with the shrimp? Why am I not surprised?”
“Only you have the skill to stop her, after all.”
Dr. Pox seemed to grin at him, and the death child smiled back.
“Flattery will get you everywhere it seems.”
Chimera sprang forth to grab him, only for a chunk of concrete to smash her into the floor, where she rebounded off the ground..
The blow shocked her, snapping her out of the rage she was spiraling into.
“May we meet again, Sarah.”
What?!
How did he know about her real identity?!
HOW?!
She tried again, only for a wall of stone to jump forth, blocking her and pushing her back as she bounced off it.
The wall started moving, and Chimera had just enough time to run past the wall before it smashed into one of the buildings.
“Oh my, you are something else indeed.”
Chimera turned to face her opponent, just as she saw the hatch close around the submarine.
If I can’t get inside, I’ll make him come out!
Chimera prepared the special needle, the one she had planned to use on Killer Whale.
It was a simple needle really, made of incredible dense fibers that she reinforced from her various super powers.
It was now dense enough that she wouldn’t be surprised if it went through a tank.
A submarine though…
If she recalled her past knowledge, most didn’t have more than two inches, some even had four inches of steel.
Her needle would thread right through that, and force him out.
“Oh, do you have something fun to use? I can feel your body vibrating underneath you.”
“Fun?”
“Go ahead, I won’t even try to fight back.”
Chimera didn’t have time for his games, and fired it off at the submarine.
The force behind the needle shout out like a cannon, and Chimera had to brace herself against the ground as the force kicked back.
The needle flew true, and hit the hull.
Which blocked it.
“What?! How?”
Terralord started to laugh at her, a full belly laugh that echoed in the cavernous underground.
“Oh… my, you gave be a good scare there, but hey, nice try little girl.”
Chimera felt her rage bubble to the surface as the submarine made its way towards a gate.
She didn’t bother trying to hide her real form and launched at the sub with all her strength and speed.
Break it!
Destroy it!
Make him suffer!
But… the scientists…
She gritted her teeth as she tried to pry open the hatch, bashing and punching the hull with all her strength.
It wouldn’t budge, it didn’t even dent.
Finally, the submarine went underwater, and Chimera was left there floating above the surface.
In a last ditch effort, she tried to use her water kinesis to pull the submarine back into the dock.
A bit of resistance slowed the sub, until its engines spun up, and a forceful pull took it out of the dock.
No! No!
She smashed the water to the sides, but the submarine was already gone.
The laughter she heard before echoed in her skull, and she felt all of her frustration funnel towards the basterd.
“It was a nice attempt, little one, but my powers do more than just make rocks obey me.”
Chimera pulled herself out of the water with a bit of spider webbing and water kinesis, landing next to Terralord as he showed her a piece of concrete.
“See this?”
The concrete in front of him changed from iron, to gold, to concrete again.
“The properties that make up this piece of concrete are like a work of art in my hands. Beauty in simplicity, and good looks to go with it. Alchemists of the old eras must be frothing at the mouth from my genius.”
Chimera felt the anger she had for Pox sift into this asshole.
He stopped me, somehow he made the submarine stronger.
“Oh yes, it was me. I can see the anger on your face, and your right to be mad. The fabulous Terralord has once again triumphed over the foolish heroes of the realm. What will our dashing rogue do next?!”
Chimera made claws in her hands, grew teeth from polar bears in her mouth and started building the strongest muscle groups she could cobble together, reinforced even further by water kinesis.
She was going to beat this flamboyant prick to death.
“Surrender, this is the only chance I’m giving you.”
Of course, Terralord only smiled further.
“I love ultimatums! So, here's' mine.”
A suit of reinforced rocks grew over the supervillain, a wicked smile coating his face.
“Stay still, or else.”
