Chapter 5 Cruel Reality

Chapter 5 Cruel Reality

“So, Meghan Schumann, how was your first time with a lady inside you?”

“Eww Sis, why did you put it that way?”

“It’s her punishment for sort of killing me. Now she will be the butt of my innuendoes for life.”

“Please spare me from the sex puns.”

“But I was your first, right? I had to be since you were a vir-,”

“Enough!”

Sarah, Meghan and her brother Aden were driving along New Terra with a different perspective now that they were all essentially supers.

Meghan had been the most affected, even more so than Sarah’s brother. Sarah had tested the waters with her brother, but with Meghan’s approval, she was able to try some experimentations.

To rousing successes.

Meghan was now able to generate electricity from her hands at will, see with three different visual perspectives including thermal, electromagnetic, and ultraviolet, and was functionally immortal.

Meaning her body would replicate her youthful self forever as long as she didn’t die to something immediately, or stop eating and drinking water.

Sarah realized she had done that accidentally with Aden, as the blood marrow transplantation she did was what created the immortality.

The increased oxygenation made it so none of the body’s telomeres’ suffered natural degradation due to loss of the extra protected layer it created. Instead, it just self-regenerated that same genetic material over and over whenever it hit a certain threshold.

It’s weird, I essentially hold the key to human evolution in my hand, and all I have to do is find a way to reach and touch as many people as possible.

She questioned if she even should.

It’s not like it’s my problem to make everyone superhuman. I could, but I don’t need to. Besides, it’s my power to do with what I will. Now that I’m dead… I can do whatever.

She sighed, causing the rest of the people in the car to glance back at her.

I got to tell them… I feel like an ass for doing this… but it’s for their good as well as mine.

“Aden, you know I can’t stay with you, you either right Meghan?”

“W-What? Wait, Sis what do you mean?”

“Sarah if this is about ChemTech, I don’t think anyone is going to look for you. I can tell them you likely died from the decontamination gas. They’ll buy it.”

“What if they don’t though Meg? Hell, even the situation is not the best right now, because the first thing they're going to look for is someone connected to the incident. I’d leave the company the next chance you get. Even then though, they’ll have someone monitoring you.”

“But they won’t be looking for you Sarah.”

“They will recognize me though, and if they do, they’ll send someone to silence everyone who is related to their project. The only reason you and Aden are safe right now is because they think I’m dead.”

She shook her head as she spoke, “I don’t want to be out of contact with either of you, but I need to find a way to do that safely. I promise I’ll find a way to get back to you both.

Till then, Meg, can you watch him?”

“Sis, I’m not okay with you just running off on your own! At least take me with you.”

“The answer is no, Aden. You got a life ahead of you, and as I am right now, I can’t protect you. I can’t even be with you without a corpo assassin taking a shot at you. I’m not letting you die because of me, not when you just got a chance again.

So please, just let me go.”

She looked in the rear view mirror of her friend’s car, back at her brother.

He looked different now, the pallid color gone, his body a bit more solid, and his gaze more confident.

She could see though, that the news of her leaving was hurting him all over again.

“Meghan, please.”

“Al-… Alright Sarah, but we need to know if you’re reaching out to us again. I’m with your brother on this, because even if what you said is true, I’m not losing my friend again because I’m afraid to die. That how I almost lost you last time.”

“Okay… then… I’ll let you know by saying this.”

She turned to look at them both, “I’ll say this in a way so that both of you can tell it’s me. I’ll say, ‘This is my home.’ If you hear someone say that, ask, ‘Am I your home,’ and I’ll reply, ‘you always were.”

“Sis, not gonna lie, that sounds very gay.”

“Pff, you know which side I’m swinging anyway little bro. Besides, it’s so that you both recognize its me. It has to be a little cringe.”

“Ugh, but it sounds like a drama line for a Monday morning special. It’s terrible!”

Her brother was laughing, and she could hear her friend giggling as well.

“Alright, we agree then?”

Meghan nodded toward her, “I’ll watch over Aden until he can get set up, or until he want’s to move out. Once you’re all set, you say the cringe and we meet up again yeah?”

“Heh, yeah.”

Her brother pulled a fist out to bump, “until then, and until we meet again.”

She bopped his fist, and so did Meghan, sealing the blood pact.

Meghan dropped her off in the middle of a park, and after a few heartfelt goodbyes, Sarah finally found herself alone in the middle of New Terra City Park.

“It’s pretty serene at night, if you can ignore the cicadas and all the damn chirping.

Which she could, since she could sense things around her with her blob form. She turned into the blob and began rolling around the park at night.

Data, Data, oh how I love some Data~. Rich fertilizer, grass and leaves, eating them all up as I please~.

She sang her song as she rolled along, the night and the spring bugs singing along with her.

It was fun; just her, and nature, and all the nice little extra pieces of DNA building a network within her.

Of course, she eventually ran into an obstacle in her path, a rather deranged looking cat and dog.

“Hey, move it mangy curs.”

Channeling her inner pirate, she made a tricorn hat and a scimitar to match with her blobbyness.

Said curs took it as a challenge, and began running after her with fang and claw extended.

“Then it be Davey Jones' Locker that awaits yeh.”

She made a slash with her scimitar, which did no damage beside wrapping around the dog. The cat was even less lucky, as the moment he swiped with a paw, the paw sunk into her blobby flesh and sucked the cat inside her. The dog tried to fight her off as well, but the scimitar caught him across the legs, immobilizing him and pulling him along inside Sarah’s blubber.

“Yeh fought well for a couple of mutts and pussies, but it be Cap’n Sarah Bockman who be sailing away with this booty.”

She collected the Data she could from the animals, releasing them healthy hearty and whole with new special gifts to boot.

The cat was now able to develop a love of humans and dig like the dog could.

The dog was now free of rabies, gifted with even greater brain mass, and could learn languages.

“Yar, now you two be free to live, but don’t cross me path again, unless you want another pounding from Ol’ Cap’n Bockman.”

The cat and dog licked her before trotting off to who knows where.

“It’s hard being a captain. Oh well, the sea calls!”

She started her roll once more, collecting and singing her sea shanties through the night.

Meghan took a knife to her finger nail, and sawed a part of it off.

It hurt for only a moment, until the nail returned to its previous length, if a bit shorter.

“Are you still doing experiments? Jeez, Sis was right about you being a nerd, Meg.”

“You just don’t understand Aden, these experiments are going to help us understand our abilities.”

She placed her sixth nail in a microscope. While she could see the different spectrums of light thanks to her friend’s augments, it helped when she could see things on the smaller scale.

Note to self, ask for magnification next time.

Hopefully she wouldn’t have to wait too long for her friend to reappear.

Till then, science!
