As we exited the house, I made sure to be vigilant.
Earlier, when I first awakened, I saw holes in the ground and corpses walking around.
There can only be one possibility.
The undead dug themselves out.
I have to inform Viola of this, but I must ensure that myself being an undead remains a secret.
“Lady Viola, please be careful, I saw some undead walking around outside through a mirror. Please move quietly behind me.”
“Y-Yes…”
Although she’s been feeling safe around me, she’s still stuttering slightly when speaking.
It must be the surroundings.
This gloomy and cursed place…
It’s not strange at all.
Viola and I advance with me at the front slowly.
Relying on my memory, we first head into the armory first.
There’s an exit to the forest there.
“Let’s head east from here.”
We reached a large tree and the path splits into two.
This may not be obvious, but we’ve been advancing using the pathway.
As for why, well, I believe that answer is quite simple.
The dead were buried somewhere in the forest, but not near these paths.
Also, the places where they were buried are far from the path.
Taking into consideration the trees and the terrain as well as the time when the curse started, which was just a few hours from now, and the location of the undead, it should take at least ten hours or more for them to reach the paths.
We should be safe for now.
So we’re hurrying a bit but of course, we’re rather careful.
There’s no guarantee that the undead never reached the paths.
We’ve been walking for an hour since we’ve left the mansion.
Fortunately, my estimations were correct.
We haven’t encountered a single walking corpse.
I hope we fail to encounter anymore.
“Are you alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine…”
I asked Viola in concern for her health.
Royal Road is the home of this novel. Visit there to read the original and support the author.
This body of mine, though managed to retain its senses, has no concept of fatigue.
A fortunate truth.
Although, not so for the living…
And though Viola said she’s fine, I can see her breathing rapidly.
It’s showing in her face.
She’s definitely tired.
But she’s not complaining at all…
That’s reassuring…
But her demeanor and tone seems as if she’s used to it.
Also, she didn’t retort when I called her a “Lady”.
Then she might indeed be a noble.
A noble lady without any guards?
Most likely run away from a political arrangement…
She must have lived a life being told what to do.
A puppet is it?
I suppose she’s similar to me then…
But that is not something for me to intervene.
I have more pressing matters to attend to.
My life ended years ago, but I wish to be able to aid her even slightly.
“Hm? There!”
Soon, I saw a cabin house near.
The armory.
Viola can rest while I search for weapons.
“Let’s go.”
Viola nodded.
I walked there.
As I opened the door, I heard a strong growl behind it.
“Grahhhh!!!!”
And the door was smashed apart as a figure jumped on me.

Sorry for the delay. Had some RL issues to deal with so I couldn't post it early. I'd also like to mention something here. As you all know, I do have a blog but it isn't updated regularly and has too few content. Well, that's natural. I don't have that much free time anyways. My only reason for writing is simply that I like writing and that I'd like to encourage others to do the same. The blog is like a map to me where I mainly post a short review, list down the genres, whose the author, and the link to where it is. Unfortunately, I don't have that much free time to develop this novel concept of a blog due to exams. Regardless, I hope you all enjoy this and good night.
