Chapter 45 Final Preparations

As we left the gates, we soon reached a hallway that lead to a library.

Based on the map, after this would be the heart.

I began this journey to destroy the heart and end this curse.

I’ve gathered some companions who will accompany me on this task.

Llednar, once a great phantom thief who hid his true nature by acting as a humble yet great merchant.

Clovis, a circus master who perished alongside his companions without warning.

And myself, Sylfern, an exiled prince cast out of his own home due to a nefarious plot.

We each had a life of our own.

And those lives never intersected until now.

We each have our own reasons for acting, but we each have some things in common.

One: We all suffered and died in this forest.

Two: We each had a path we walked and wished to see to the end.

Three: We each had different pasts but met the same end.

Four: We don’t regret how we’ve walked our paths and have accepted our own deaths.

With these common points, we chose to stand together.

As we reached the library, checked the time and spoke to those two.

“After this, we’ll face the end of the journey. Even if we fail and fall here, we would still pass on. We’ve accepted our deaths after all.”

The curse would only continue to imprison those who refuse to accept their deaths.

Those who still held resentment and hatred and refused to accept their end.

Thus, it had little power over those who accepted their deaths.

But we refuse to allow the ones remaining here to suffer and remain imprisoned here.

Thus, before we fade away, we will end this curse here and put an end to everything.

“Yes, it’ll be the end for us either way.”

“That has already come to pass.”

They both nodded.

I knew they would agree.

Although I’ve only been with them for a short time, I believe I know them well enough to know this.

“I checked our time. We still have some time left. There is an interval for all of us though. We each different lifespans after all. But there is still about two hours we can spend freely and have enough time to settle this.”

“Umu.”

“I see…”

“So this is what I propose. I suggest we spend that two hours here to begin our final preparations. Then, we face the final battle.”

“Agreed. We do have some stuff we might need to do.”

“Every party must be prepared well or else the party itself will fail to enlighten the audience.”

“Since we’ve agreed, let us begin our preparations, once you’re all finished, let’s discuss one last topic.”

With that, we began our preparations.

I looked around in the room for something…

According to the map I’ve read before and memorized, this room was a storage room and stored various items.

Weapons, armor, treasure and some facilities as well.

Apparently, the doctor would often make spares for items he might break.

It would be a problem if he was in a critical part of his work and lost an important item, so he’d kept some useful spares to replace anything.

And there are indeed a lot of things here…

Majority of which are in good condition.

They were stored and kept well.

Despite his faults, that man had extremely high abilities.

A pity it was wasted on him.

I suppose the saying that the heavens are just is true.

He had a good mind and body and many talents but his personality was that of a madman.

Enough of that.

I need to focus on preparations…

After some time, I repaired my armor and weapons.

I restocked on arrows and various items.

I took off my leather armor with the exception of my wrist guard and my boots.

I changed most of my leather for light metal.

I need better protection than leather.

I also grabbed a silver shield.

This should prove quite useful.

My preparations didn’t take long.

I properly organized the items despite knowing that there probably won’t be anyone visiting this area soon.

I believe that this place is too dangerous and that information should spread soon.

Even so, I dislike the notion of leaving things disorganized and messy.

As a former prince, I prefer neat and tidy.

After finishing up, I went to the table and saw that there was no one there yet.

Those two must be taking a bit long to prepare.

There’s no need to rest for me, so I decided to wait.

After some time, they both appeared at the same time.

They finished at the same time.
