After welcoming Llednar to join me, we made our way back down to where the Professor’s Diary was located.
It merely took several minutes.
Of course, we were vigilant on the way.
The undead located down are significantly stronger.
I’ve already firmly engraved this unto my mind.
“I hope we don’t encounter any of those wolves you’ve fought off.”
Llednar commented as we went down.
“Yes. I’ve had difficulty fighting them myself. The undead I’ve faced down here were significantly strong. The wolves located here would very much pose a significant threat since it’s only of us present.”
I went ahead and told him about outside the mansion while we were chatting.
The information would prove useful.
And regardless, it’s a good topic to chat about.
We don’t need to pry too much into each other’s lives.
I don’t want to speak on such topics on account of my short life.
“We’ve arrived here.”
We’ve reached the study room.
“Hoh, that’s his diary?”
Upon entering and seeing the diary, Llednar commented as such.
“Indeed. Besides some troubling notes and other events recounting his murders and abominable research, there’s a map and other useful information to be gained from reading it.”
Although it’s a recounting of horrific tales fit to bring nightmares upon children, it’s useless to us who’ve already faced death and experienced brutal pain.
There’s no need to dwell on this any further than we already have.
“Seriously? That twisted fool has always been up to no good at all…”
Llednar muttered.
“There’s no point in dwelling on the past. He’s already dead after all. Let’s proceed now.”
I show him the map and point at the locked doors requiring his help.
“So I need to help you out there huh… Find by me. This is nothing in comparison to stealing the Moonlit Jade.”
He said with confidence.
The Moonlit Jade huh…
A rare jewel said to shine with the same light as moonlight whenever light shone upon it.
A rare treasure indeed.
It was guarded in a place filled with countless locked doors with different patterns and means of unlocking.
There was no master key.
It was said that the place it was stored at was impregnable.
It gained such fame when a raiding army once stormed the place in search of treasure.
They killed all the guards, however, in addition to the locked doors, there were other traps and mechanisms that halted their advance.
That army was forced to leave without a single spoil.
Fortunately, the owner of that very same place managed to escape.
The city was eventually recaptured and with the owner returning there, the treasures were unsealed once more.
That place, Midnight Tower, gained great fame as a result and no thief ever succeeded in any heist there other than this great thief before me.
It was the very event that earned him great fame that spread throughout the continent.
And because of that…
“I’ll leave it to you then.”
I know that this man will succeed.
We left the study room together and headed down.
This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.
“There it is.”
After a short while, we arrived at the first door.
The atmosphere around it was vile. I knew at once that there was something powerful protecting that door as it emanated such a vile aura. It was a crudely designed wooden door. Similar to the design of the dungeon door I saw beforehand in the Armory.
“Well now, I’ll show you how it’s done.”
Saying so while stroking his long white beard, Llednar stepped forward and took his tools.
His tools were some oddly-shaped metal rods.
“I never thought I’d see the Great Thief perform before me himself.”
I said anticipating his performance.
“Hahaha, it’s been a while after all. These rusty old bones will now do their work.”
Laughing lightly, he swiftly moved with efficiency.
His hands moved extremely fast at lightning speed to which I could only see a blur.
After several moments, the door was unlocked.
“And done.”
Already?
“That was too fast. It’s no wonder you managed to steal so many treasures…”
I said in awe.
“That’s nothing much.”
He laughed with pride.
“Let’s get going now.”
“Hahahaha… As expected of you.”
I said in praise.
I nodded and we entered through the door.
And as we did, a fast shadow pounced on us.
I reacted quickly and drew my sword.
Llednar already drew his dagger.
I withstood its attack then kicked it away.
Upon doing so, I took a look at our attacker.
It was a walking undead whose eyes were gouged out.
It mindlessly crawled and attempted to attack once more.
I did not give it any time to do so and charged ahead.
Llednar circled behind me as I did so.
What speed!
I thought to myself.
But I did not hesitate or stop at all in my movements.
I brought down my sword while Llednar slashed it with his dagger.
I aimed at the shoulder while Llednar aimed at the head.
Its throat was slit but it wasn’t enough to take it down even against our pincer attack.
I instantly severed its head with my sword.
As it collapsed, I looked beyond the door to spot any further enemies.
Upon concluding that there were no more, I heaved a sigh of relief and sheathed my sword.
“Haha, I didn’t think you’d be able to put up that much of a fight for a prince lad.”
Llednar heartily remarked.
“Those movements of yours were too fast for an old man too you know.”
I said in response.
“True. Even if they may have withered a bit, it’s still the body of the Great Thief.”
He answered with pride.
“Nothing less I’d expect from you. Let’s continue onwards.”
After ending our small time talk, we continued walking forward.

Hahaha... Greetings everyone. I've just recently figured out the use of a Reading List. I'm a bit ashamed here. I wish I could have known this function a lot earlier. Especially with all the recent authors right now. It's difficult to keep tract of the novels you're following.
