Chapter 43 The Garden
We proceeded through the gates with caution.
As before, we followed the same formation and were prepared to deal with any foe we come across at any moment.
We were prepared for attacks from both the ground and from the air.
Aerial creatures and ground creatures can attack from any direction.
Therefore, we needed to be ready to face any foe from any or every direction.
However, if there were only three of us, we would easily be overrun with numbers.
Numbers can easily be countered with numbers.
Thus, I summoned my knights beforehand.
At present, both Llednar and Clovis are surrounded by knights lacking flesh and blood.
I can’t control their actions very well so the noise from their armor clanking can’t be stopped.
This would attract far more undead hordes than normal.
We can deal with them especially with all these knights around us…
But it would waste our time and energy doing so…
Fortunately, our target is beyond this garden.
We simply need to reach the other gate.
As we continued moving forward, a mist begins to form.
“Hm… What’s this mist doing here?”
“It may be an effect to hinder us.”
“Any way to shut it down?”
“Probably not. Furthermore, this may be a trap. Be vigilant and stay close to formation. We just need to follow the map to get to the gate.”
“I know… But this wretched mist is blocking my vision… You still there Clovis?”
Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.
“Aye!”
It’s good to know that we haven’t been separated.
Although we’re having difficulty seeing each other…
Hopefully, this won’t pose a problem in a fight…
“I think we need to change our formation.”
I proposed after some thought.
“Hm? A change?”
“?”
“This mist is blocking our vision. If we follow the formation we previously use, we’re bound to get lost and get separated. Rather than risk that, let’s change formation so we’ll be close to each other.”
“Got it.”
“Agreed.”
The two nodded.
After gaining their approval, we began considering our abilities to change our formation to suit the current area and situation at present.
The discussion lasted for 20 minutes.
“Well then, we’ll proceed like this.”
I nodded in satisfaction.
After a thorough discussion, we decided to go with a triangle formation while the knights surround us.
I’m at front, Llednar is to my right while Clovis is to my left.
We’re close enough to see each other but my knights look like faint silhouettes at this distance.
The mist is quite thick.
Furthermore, I distributed two torches to them.
This way, we’ll be able to see each other even better.
My companions nodded and we continued on our way.
Still, if the fog gets any harder to see than this, we’ll have some difficulty.
There are ways to handle this.
Unfortunately, we lack the tools and materials to use those ways or methods.
Some time passed as we progressed forward.
Fortunately, the fog didn’t get any thicker than it already has.
We also didn’t get separated.
We would periodically call upon one another to check.
“Hmmm?”
I suddenly noticed some movement towards me.
A whip-like movement.
“Dodge!”
I called out immediately.
As soon as I called that, I immediately crouched.
“Hm!?”
“!”
*Clang*
*Crash*
That strike contained a lot of strength.
It struck down several knights at once.
“Llednar! Clovis!”
I called out worried.
“I’m alright!”
“Fine!”
“Whew…”
Looks like they dodged in time.
“Separate for now! Summon Knights!”
I ordered as I summoned my knights.”
“What a pain!”
“Keep alert of your surroundings and watch for any movements and move accordingly!”
I ordered my knights to go forward as well.
I sensed and saw more whip-like movements heading towards us.
“Ugh! Here it comes!”
“Tch!”
“Argh…”
*Clang*
We got slightly injured.
More knights got sent flying.
The onslaught kept coming in waves.
“If only there was some way to see…”
“I have it now!”
Clovis immediately said as if coming up with a brilliant idea.
“Blow them away,
A powerful gust blew away the fog immediately.
The movements stopped for a bit and we could finally see…
Some trees?
We saw some shady ashen trees with evil faces on them.
There were vines moving about.
That was the whip-like silhouettes I was seeing?
Those trees were alive…?
“Clovis, burn them! Llednar, let’s get near and burn them with our torches!”
The trees were slightly separated.
So we had to divide a bit.
With the fog blown away, we had a better chance here.
Clovis immediately fired off fireballs towards enemies while Llednar and I dashed towards those trees while avoiding those vines.
