Chapter 1 The Cursed Doll
It’s said that death is the end.
No matter what life you’ve lived, who you are, or what you are, death will bring to it all.
I’ve always believed so.
Indeed, I, Sylfern, believed it to be true.
And several years ago, I was murdered.
Yet…
“Why am I alive?”
I asked this question to no one in particular.
I clearly remember the events that occurred past leading all the way to my death and my actions afterwards.
So why?
“No… Perhaps I’ve possessed a living body…”
But I don’t recall ever possessing anyone.
And the only person who ever lived here was that man…
That madman…
“No, that cannot be. This face and body is exactly the same as my body years ago.”
That makes possession impossible.
I check my body.
I can feel my lungs as I breathe in and out.
I turned my gaze towards the window and saw a creepy forest.
I crouch down and touch the floor.
The floor was cold.
Next, I touch my heart.
My heart…
“It’s not beating at all…”
So I’m still dead. But why did I retain my senses?
This body is exactly the same as my previous body.
“If this is the case… Then there’s only one possibility.”
I search my memories from years ago.
To the scene of horror…
To the madness that were alight from those eyes…
And the final scene where I met my demise.
“This body is that of my previous body. But it’s been heavily modified…”
This body was made by that man...
A symbol of that man’s sins and his insanity…
A testament to his pursuit that ended in tragedy.
I stood up.
I’ve confirmed that this body is mine.
“Although it leaves a bitter aftertaste, I suppose there’s nothing I can do about it.”
I belong among the ranks of the dammed.

There’s nothing that can be done.
Even if I thirst for vengeance, the target of my enmity is already long dead.
But perhaps, I can still seek salvation.
“So, to that end, I should look around for a bit.”
I investigate my surroundings.
I’m in a small room with a fancy throne in the middle and a long black box behind it with two windows outside.
I walk to one window and look at the forest.
And I see…
Several corpses mindlessly walking around.
“Those guys are…”
Others beside myself who died here.
Their remains must have been buried there…
I see holes in the ground…
Dark clouds block the sun completely.
Perhaps it might rain?
Maybe I should converse with them later if I could…
I turn around to check the black box.
“Now, what’s in here…?”
I open the box to see…
-An elegantly designed sword.
“A sword? Well, better than nothing.”
I took the sword in my hand.
I could feel the weight of the sword as well as the cold steel.
Now I’m armed.
“Since I’ve investigated everything in this room, I should leave now.”
I tie the sword to my waist.
I turned towards the door.
When I reached the door, I took a big breathe.
“Now then, whatever awaits me is beyond this door. I may not have taken a good look at this mansion when I arrived, but I can certainly do so now. “
I grip the knob and opened the door.
I place my hand on my sword as I exit the room.

(Author's Note: Just so you know, I've been inspired to write this novel after playing the game Madfather. There's some similarities due to it but there are clear differences. Also, I recommend playing the game. It's really good and gave me some scares. And any feedback, corrections, or grammar corrections will be much appreciated. Thank You.)
