Chapter 50 Till we meet again

Chapter 50: Till we meet again

“Well then… Let’s finish the last task.”

I spoke to everyone.

“Umu.”

“Indeed.”

We went pass through the Mad Professors mutated corpse and opened the door.

I was quite surprised at what we saw.

This place is filled to the brim with corruption and miasma.

We should expect some vile creatures and other evils to lurk here, yet we saw none beyond this door.

All we saw was a room filled with dolls, toys and books.

I went and checked the books, they were filled with children’s illustrations.

“This is a child’s room. This should be that little girl’s room…”

In the room, there were two beds.

And in those two beds, we saw that there were two figures sleeping within each bed.

I glanced at Llednar.

He looked at me and nodded.

I headed to the first bed near us while Llednar went to the other bed.

We immediately uncovered the figures sleeping.

In the bed I opened, there was a small figure.

A child.

There were no traces of decay.

She looked as if asleep.

But there was not the slightest trace of life in her.

She was all too familiar to me.

She was the Mad Professor’s daughter.

On other bed, there was a middle-aged woman there.

Just like this child, she seemed to be asleep yet lacked the faintest sign of life.

“Let’s go. I’ll handle the man’s body, Llednar, handle the child. Clovis, handle the woman.”

I gave them orders and we left.

After some time, we’ve finished the task of going back to the surface with the three corpses.

We found some shovels from somewhere and dug out three holes.

We also found some coffins.

We took a few white curtains in the mansion as well and wrapped the three bodies in a curtain.

The only difficulty lay with the Professor’s body. His body was quite large.

Therefore, we had no choice but to cut some wood and fashion a larger coffin.

We dug out the three holes side by side, then began burying them.

It wasn’t a hard task.

Although it may be tiring to living humans, it was a simple task to us who feel neither pain nor fatigue.

After burying them properly, we fashioned three wooden stakes to serve as graves.

We merely wrote a few words there.

For the daughter, we wrote, ‘Loving daughter, who loved her father with all her heart’.

For the wife, we wrote, ‘Kind wife, who understood the man she loved the most’.

For the father, we wrote, ‘A foolish man, who failed to realize what’s truly important, and lose them all. Along with his life. Let this grave stand a testament to his sins.’

“Well… This ends it.”

Llednar spoke in a solemn voice.

“Indeed, so what now?”

Clovis questioned.

“There’s no need to fear. When we surfaced, we only encountered a few undead. The rest were still corpses. That’s proof that the curse is undone. We merely need to wait until we join those who passed on.”

I answered calmly.

“I see... Well, what do we do now?”

“I think we should just enjoy what time we have left in the world of the living before we leave it completely. Let’s head back to the mansion. Let’s separate for now and reunite in the dining room. Let’s host a small party between us to celebrate our success, and then burn the mansion and seal away all its dark secrets forever.”

“True.”

Llednar agreed with a nod.

Clovis didn’t have much to say either, but he also nodded.

“We can’t let anyone continue that man’s work and let more tragedies unfold.”

And thus, we separated.

I went over to the place where I encountered that girl earlier.

Where I learned to use my power and we fought off those beasts.

After heading there, I saw the ruins from before.

I didn’t fix them for that is meaningless.

I simply passed through the broken door and went up.

I saw it before when I was here, I found a parchment and some quill.

I took a feather from there and began writing a letter.

Some people would eventually come here.

I hope that they would pass a message for me to a person I held dear.

After some time, I finished writing.

I then headed over to where I parted with that girl.

I took the hammer and nail I prepared then nailed my letter to a tree there.

After I finished, I headed back.

On the way, I found the place getting slightly brighter.

That’s good news to me.

It meant the end is coming soon.

I hurried my footsteps.

I finally arrived to the mansion and went to the dining room.

There, I found my two comrades waiting for me in a chair.

And surprisingly, I found wine bottles and three glasses there as well as some food.

“Interesting, you found some wine?”

Llednar grinned while Clovis laughed.

“I found the wine stashed away somewhere. It was the wine I brought with me when I came here. Glad to see that he didn’t take any of it. Hahaha…”

Llednar laughed gleefully.

“I’m the one who prepared the food. I discovered that we can taste the food here.”

“Oh, that’s a pleasant surprise. I take it that you can taste wine too then?”

“Yep. Come on in and take a sit.”

I smiled gently.

No wonder he was happy.

I believe he liked wine?

Well, I’m quite fond of good wine myself.

I took a seat and began to taste the food.

“Mn… It’s pretty good. The wine goes along with the food splendidly.”

I praised the food quite well.

“Hahaha, so even a prince knows how to appreciate simple food.”

I laughed to that remark.

After that, Llednar, Clovis and I engaged in a pleasant conversation regarding various events.

Our lives…

Our dreams…

As well as people important to us.

We engaged in our discussion until I felt that the time was soon going to end.

It was a pleasant time for us.

It was enjoyable to discuss our former lives and our hopes.

I’m glad to have been able to meet such people.

“So, what do you think is gonna happen to us afterwards?”

“Who knows. Whether there’s heaven or hell, we’ll know eventually.”

“Indeed. Well, let’s go then.”

We all began to separate to start fires to burn the place down completely.

Before we parted, I called out to the two of them.

“Llednar! Clovis! If there’s such a thing as a second life, let’s all meet up again! I truly hope that we all meet again, sometime, somewhere.”

The two raised their hands waving but never turned back.

After that, I smiled a bit.

“I truly hope we meet again.”

I spoke with words that came from the bottom of my heart.

I could not delay the moment, so I too left the room.

The room regained its silence.

Leaving nothing of the joyous atmosphere of the party between three lost souls behind.
